I bloody love this video and so did the lad fishing. Now and again when the "specimen fishing "isn't going to plan and the doubts and demons start creeping in, I get ny old 8ft feeder rod out, pint of maggots and just tiddler bash. That feeling when that rod moved and not knowing what it was put a new found love for the sport, just as strong as the first day I wet a line. Tight lines👍

Last week I set out to catch a gudgeon, and had numerous perch, a decent wild brown trout (tricky business on a 2lb bottom), and finally caught a tiny gudgeon. Last fished the stretch 7 years ago and caught nothing but gudgeon, more than 100 of them in a short session, including a couple of real clonkers. I'd love to catch a specimen gonk, and keep small scales in the bag for that eventuality.

Lovely nostalgic video, I was at school in Fareham until 1976 and did a lot of fishing around the area. I think I remember a story that even further back the Wallington was good for big eels, I heard of 7 or 8 pounders being caught, does anyone have any more information?

Loved this ,I moved to Canada from Yorkshire in 97 and now fish two massive lakes in Saskatchewan, one 40 minutes away and one 3 hrs away ,my target species is the massive shoals of wild mainly common carp which reach natural weights in excess of 40lb although I’m still waiting to break that number after catching thousands ,lots of 20,s and 30,s. I still miss the excitement of river fishing ,smaller streams always hold a few surprises and I totally agree get kids out and have some fun ,these smaller fish are often overlooked.

Been a couple of times to fish the St . Lawrence at a place called waddington in North New York state , awesome fishing and was lucky enough on the first one to have a 38lbs common .The second time we went probably 8 years ago it was a lot harder but still caught a few ,great memories and I hope you have found happiness in moving away . I wish I had the bottle to do it because this country is becoming a very depressing place to live .
@northernlight402 жыл бұрын
@@topfuelteddy yes I am happy although it still pains me to see what’s happening as I am still a Yorkshireman but to be honest this country has declined especially in the last few years with our current corrupt and inept leader ,when I came this really was the land of opportunity,I sincerely hope that it returns to that. I was nearly lured to the St Lawrence when I lived in Alberta as there are no carp there at all but I found last mountain lake and now lake of the prairies which is only a 40 minute drive from where I live ,if you get chance watch a video on KZbin called Prairie Banx ,that’s not me as I tend to fish alone and still kinda keep quiet about my spots but it’s a really good film ,the funny thing is the carp found their way out here via the river systems from Ontario where they were first introduced as a food source,they are really seen as vermin here and it’s a small percentage of people that fish for them ,like us crazy English people but it’s an overlooked species for sure ,it’s not uncommon for me to catch 20 plus fish in a fairly short session, of course on lakes that are up to 70 miles long it’s a case of bait heavily and wait for them to turn up but once they do it can be unreal at times.

Drennan videos are spot on. I grew up fishing for Gudgeon with the Starlets Junior Club fishing Bloodworm and Joker in winter matches on Birmingham Canals, so although I've never specifically targeted them on small rivers, they are a species close to my heart. I went back to the canals we used to fish as a kid since I recently moved house and was disappointed to find a heavily diminished Gudgeon population.

A carp Feeder rod to catch gudgeon 🤣🤣
@DrennanTackleTV2 жыл бұрын
With a 1.5oz glass tip this rod was the most suitable to use in our range of rods. The length (9ft) was ideal for the size of the river and great for creeping in and out of tight swims. Just because carp is in the name does't mean its not acceptable to be used for other species 😁😁

Everyone seems to be after a bigger and bigger carp, carp, carp. The carp are the ones that eat thge eggs and spawn of other fish, thats why they are in decline.
@kevinmyrane1962 жыл бұрын
Yep...the sad thing is the larger percentage of anglers now are only interested in carp and how many of them actually care about our smaller native species that are suffering. I recently read a report about the decline of gudgeon and aswell as carp, zander also have a huge impact on gudgeon population. Apart from climate change non-native/invasive species have the biggest impact to biodiversity...without all these smaller fish the ecosystem wouldn't function properly and you wouldn't have all the bigger species. Of course pollution is a major factor these days aswell 😔
