In Your House, by The Cure
From the "Seventeen Seconds" album, 1980.
Guitar by Robert Smith.
Vintage The Cure, to demonstrate my latest family member, the Squier Vintaeg Modified Jazzmaster. This guitar is ridiculously fun to play, and a bit challenging to set up...
MXR Flanger added for swishines, into Roland JC77, chorus on. Reverb accidentally on too... (the reverb tank is damaged, so it sounds a bit like a very short delay).

I thought that until I saw the Earthquaker Devices Pyramids and the Chase Bliss Spectre, neither of which I can afford! Great videos here! Robert Smith is/was a highly underrated guitarist, his playing seems simple until you try to emulate it. I have no idea, for example, how he got some of those incredible sounds on 'Pornography' and I've been studying it for 20+ years. His playing also changed after he was in Siouxie and the Banshees; he absorbed a lot from trying to copy John McGeoch. You've done a good transcription job here and on the others.

The Best Albums Ever Yes, one of the most unique sounding albums I know. Love the drum sound. When albums get old and some songs become hits that are played a lot live or make it to collections they are kind of cut out of the album and it seems as if the other songs are just fillers. But there are no fillers on this album. Mostly listened to it in it's entirety.

+Guedzilla From what ive read, the Squier Jazzmasters are actually closer to the original 60s ones back in the day than the 1800 dollar models are. The bummer is you get that shitty bridge and intonation can be a nightmare. But, the tone is outstanding and you really nailed the cure sound bro. I wonder how old you are? The cure was the shit when i was growing up back in the 80s, great great music.
@Guedzilla
@Guedzilla 9 жыл бұрын
+thorn35 I've read that too… that this series of Squiers is the closest thing you can get to the originals (apart from the original$, obviously) - that's why I went after one. I also read that the bridge has always been shitty… I didn't have much trouble with it though. Sure, there's some rattling (less after I shimmed the neck) and from time to time I have to raise the saddles a bit again because they already lowered by themselves, but it's not much trouble. The first setup was the most difficult. I'm from 83, didn't get into The Cure (or any of their contemporaries) until around 96…

Beautiful. I am going to buy this guitar and been looking for the alternatives to the stock bridge which supposedly is not good. Can you tell me what have you done with yours? I've watched many videos and I haven't seen anything that looks like that.
@Guedzilla
@Guedzilla 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I didn't do anything, it's the stock bridge, and there's a bridge cover, that's probably what you're referring to. I've seen a lot of people complaining about the stock bridge, but I have no issues with it. Occasionaly the screws lower themselves, because of the vibration I think, but I always keep the adjustment wrench in the bag for a quick fix. (Also, this happens over some time, it's not something that will happen suddenly while you're playing). I bought this guitar used, as far as I know, the only thing that was changed was the trem system, the previous owner used a Fender one with the locking mechanism, which isn't of much use imho.
@Guedzilla
@Guedzilla 6 жыл бұрын
The cover is only for aesthetical reasons, as fas as I know, and for me it gets more in the way of playing (palm muting) than it does any good.
@palamud
@palamud 6 жыл бұрын
For what I know, the saddles are totally loose when not pushed down by strings and grooves in saddles are too shallow causing stings to slip out into another groove and making saddles shift. When I saw that you have some kind of cover I thought it may be preventing saddles from moving if it's close enough. Anyway, thanks for the answer, I hope it's not going to be too bad for me neither.
@Guedzilla
@Guedzilla 6 жыл бұрын
The saddles are held in place by the screws and the side pressure from the bigger screw, but they do move a bit. Only the low E slips a groove on my guitar, it usually stays on groove below where it should, but that doesn't get in the way of playing for me. Also, I'm using 11's, always have, but I've read that thinner strings can be more problematic. Ah, shimming the neck also helps.

@@Guedzilla I used to own the jc160 which I played guitar on. This has the 4x10 speakers. The guitar would swirl around all 4 speakers when chorus was on would blow people away. I remember one guy would just stick his head on the cabinet loving the swirly sound. I played a Les Paul rather than a jazz that Robert used but still has a great tone. You can’t replicate this sound in stereo. The only way would be to have 4 mics then use a quad mix. This was the amp that Robert used. If you can and afford it get that amp and that will give u the chorus tone. Other than that you are exactly spot on and sound great

+Paulo Neto Obrigado!
