Jimmy Dawkins had a style. He went so deep into the blues. Such a soulful sound. R.I.P. Jimmy.

7 years later ..... I just now discovered this cat . This is literally the 2nd tune I've heard . The first was mere minutes ago "Night Rocks" from "Fast Fingers" . I'm in my mid 50s and my fav jams are Classic Rock .... so of course I love this type Blues ! I was jamming on some old Surf instrumentals and that tune came up in suggestions , lol.... and I'm, like , "Fast Fingers ", huh ? , Let's see about that . I ain't never heard of this guy , so ...." After that song ended , and I saved to a Playlist, I was typing Jimmy Dawkins in the search bar .... this list said Best Of... so this is good place to start . This song playing ,and I'm commenting . This rapid fire "Discovery to Digging" is not usual for me , but like , WOW ! Killer guitar work.... I love that sound . I'm assuming that's Jimmy singing , too ? That's another BIG WOW on that voice ! Man , oh man , straight from his heart to his hands , to my ears and .... my heart . You know HE'S feeling it , when YOU'RE feeling it . Sad that he is gone from us , but he is still sending the Feels and I'm sure that would make him happy . Well , wanted to share those thoughts with y'all , but I'm gonna go dive right in .... Rock/Blues On ! 🎸

(remember them?) played with luther allison, (worked a festival gig with him where i had a visual i'll never forget) lamont cranston with whom was the great r&b band in the twin cities then. lost through time and space. looked it up r.i.p. 2013

Luther was great! I saw him once back in the '90's in Detroit a few months before he passed. Just such an amazing performance and it's one of the shows I'll never forget. Speaking of Detroit we had a great guitar player Johnny Bassett that was often referred to as the gentleman of the blues. Reminded me of Wes Montgomery a little bit.

I remember when I was 6 yrs old I used to sit all day in front of my old sony kassette soundsystem, learned all the good music thanks to my father's blues collection! Today I'm 29 and I make rap songs and people always asks me why my lyrics so deep? Bro that's what music is all about, delivery, feelings, connections, all the misteries of life in one song! What a phenomenon!! Don't worry bout tomorrow bro, it never comes!
