if they’re doing the full guerlinade with this line, god I CANNOT wait for the rose and bergamot versions

I suppose the bergamot would have to be like the 'light' Shalimar from many years ago.

Always a joy to hear a royal we ;) RE the cultural appropriation idea, there's a fascinating interview with Benazir Bhutto (late Prime Minister of Pakistan) in which she describes visiting her father Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in prison prior to his execution, and she recounts fetching for him his own bottle of Shalimar which he wore right at the very end.

Yes, soapy beginnings, and lovely drydown - though not the strongest nor longest lasting. Of the four Millesimes I’d put this at #2, behind Vanilla P. I did like M. Iris but not as an iris (didn’t smell any iris in fact); rather it was kind of an innocently sweet vanilla on my skin. Thanks for your review, was really looking forward to this one 🙏🏼

To me this works exactly the same like Tonka. You are right. The first note of Jasmine is quite heavy. But then after a while you will get this whiff of delicate Jasmine and it’s gorgeous. I’m definitely stocking this up.

I'm apparently one of the few who liked the Iris release last year! I appreciate your review on this-- jasmine is a note that I find very hit or miss in perfumes, so I'm on the fence with this one.

SMJ really is a shapeshifter. Strangely I get something animalic directly from the OG Shalimar. Then the base is perfect for me. I struggle with the “baby sick & baby poop” notes in current Shalimar EdP. The base in SMJ is softly sophisticated. Turin might say “goes well with food”
@Persolaise3 сағат бұрын
Yes, it certainly comes into its own in the drydown.
@sisterparfumsКүн бұрын
Had the same exact feeling !!! Opening was hmm was expecting way more better Jasmin expression and quality and then I literally followed the dry down like every 10 minutes .. and then the lovely Jasmine ,the better one the Indian more retro more indolique and interessant cames ,this construction is quite different from the other Shalimar and way more closer to Souffle de Parfums ,and then the warm Ambery vanilla leather makes it all more balanced ..I was so afraid after the « Iris Case » . on skin and after dry down it’s an other world ! Beautiful result and Shalimar DNA wasn’t betrayed (on the dry down ) but so much closer to Souffle de parfums structure ! Well done Deplhine ❤ ps : I’ve done my review one day before 😂 ahaha

Ah, this is fascinating. I do think the opening should have been handled better, but thank goodness it improves as it goes along.

I expected Shalimar Millésime Jasmin to be very green in the opening and then transition to an overdose of fluffy white jasmine before settling down as a powdery white vanilla. But unfortunately it comes across as an overdose of sweet vanilla, much like last year’s Millésime Iris, rather than the celebration of jasmine I was hoping for. In the end, I suppose this version fits into the Shalimar family better than the one I had envisioned. SMJ carries the original Shalimar DNA, especially in the opening, along with the sweet vanilla we saw in SM Iris and even hints of tonka reminiscent of SM Tonka.
@Persolaise16 сағат бұрын
An excellent summation. Thanks for watching.

I imagine a jasmine tea drank whilst wearing shalimar and that appeals rather than an overt jasmine led scent .

I never understood the need for making clean jasmine (and even tuberose) scents. Isnt the beauty of jasmine its indolic and heavy components?
@Persolaise3 сағат бұрын
Yes and no. It's an indolic flower, but it's also interesting to manipulate it and see what other facets it can offer.

@@Persolaise that is true i guess i just love natural jasmine too much to the point where cleaned up jasmine feels almost wasteful… but with that logic there wouldnt be any room for experimentation in perfumery

I haven't smelled this one, but all scents Delphine Jelk has created are flat structured, one dimensional, horrible stinkers. Her work isn't right for the house of Guerlain.

@@Persolaise , thank you so much. I thoroughly enjoy your reviews and always find them interesting and educating. I wholeheartedly agree that one shouldn't review today's new 'scentmaps' through a prism of the past. Even if many vintage masterpieces hold their own incredible power, today's scents might have interesting qualities, and you are always on point with this. New scents are most of all different, which goes for all of them. As for the various Jelk creations I find the attempts of new 'directions' and search for originality being scents which all lack deep, genuine harmony. But we are all different and I would be very happy if she created something so beautiful that it became a groundbreaking classic.
