kyahs reasoning for not liking typical black movies where we’re always portrayed as gangsters or basketball players is exactly why i admire “nerdy black girl” movies where the characters are engineers or a black person being a main character in an anime in a non racist way

i completely agree with what you said about black struggle/pain being excessively talked about in movies/shows and i go through the same thing, i just stopped watching shows like that too bc it gets so TIRING seeing the same concepts being used over and over again like why can't we just have a fun little show of black kids enjoying high school? a nice sci-fi show or something? abbott elementary was such a breath of fresh air bc there haven't been any extreme topics talked about 😭 like damn can we not have fun too? why do we always have to be known for our struggle?

That's 100% cultural and religion. His mother knew full well in that community they accept nothing outside it's common practice among other religions around the world as well. I get it it's sad because he's sad about it, but his mother made a choice to step out on her faith and culture, and they acted accordingly. I'm not even religious, but to say they have hate because they walk the walk is crazy. In all reality, I've watched black people react to this video, like 40 different times now, and in almost every single one, my boy rob gets immense amounts of hate and prejudice for "acting black." The audacity of a white man "acting black" when he's harder than everyone on the show. I promise, go watch the other creators react to this video they're all the same.

I want to see me more movies and shows that have full black casts with ALL kinds of things that don't have struggle alone. Funnily enough, in my dad's home country, Uzbekistan, the only widely distributed movies with black people in them are superhero movies and The Princess and the Frog. I'd be curious to hear Kyah's thoughts on that (and other black people as well), since on the one hand, that means there's no gangster stereotype at play there for black people, but on the other hand, I'm not sure it's better to be mostly represented in superhero or fantasy genre pieces.

As an outsider (South american 90's kid), I was surprised to hear that they see black people on TV always being associated with struggle. Maybe that's a modern TV thing (I don't watch TV anymore)... back in the day, the black character was usually the funny guy. Oh, another black stereotype that we outsiders see on TV is the church full of black people singing.
