@@EnzoPepsiCola Probably should've explained what I meant better. It's more the lack of sex ed and the stigma around abortions that bug me, not the boy. So things like "1 or 2 abortions is okay but more means you're not being responsible, people who have abortions don't have kids or don't like kids and people who like kids don't have as many abortions." I hope nobody takes this the wrong way though, he seems like a good kid and like I said he's young and inexperienced with the matter. I'm glad he got the chance to talk about it and hopefully learn something. So what I meant with my original comment is just that I felt a sting listening to some of the discussion. It's a touchy subject for me personally. That's it.

I did, and it was necessary, I've since had a live birth and can say 100% that abortions are medically necessary A LOT, and that women also deserve to have the option because your life changes after you have a child and every woman will not be realistically prepared or able to provide in all the ways that a child needs. Not to mention birth is traumatic, adoption isn't an easy process, and the people that yell "no abortions" aren't going to help you provide for and raise said baby. Do you, make decisions that make sense to you and your existence, and keep having conversations that make people uncomfortable!

They mostly seemed so chill and okay with their abortions. Of course this is a tiny glimpse of the reality but my experience with abortion wasn't nice or comfortable. I wasn't totally okay with either decision emotionally (I thought I would be), I did it on the 9th week at home with the pills but not everything came out (btw it's more than just "bleeding" like they said on the video) and a week later my uterus got infected so I got really sick and had to get my uterus cleaned out at the hospital. Also before getting sick, the day I did my abortion was rough as fuck. I basically gave birth to the 9 week old embryo and the placenta, held on to it for days and cried. Nobody had really told me in detail what would happen. I called the clinic and they told me I could flush it down the toilet or throw it in the trash. I couldn't do it nor did I want to so I buried it in the woods. You do what you gotta do.

I wish I had been more prepared for how impactful it would feel when I went through this. I grew up in London in a super progressive bubble and didn't feel much going into it, it was a straightforward decision, but that really REALLY didn't prepare me for how strongly I felt afterwards. I would never discourage anyone from doing it and if I was back in that time in my life I would definitely make the same decision again, but I really wish there was more support. It's almost like you're supposed to feel like it's no big deal now and while that might be true for some people it might surprise you how much of a big deal it feels once it's happening. I don't know of that makes sense but there it is.

I can totally relate to this. I am 100% pro choice, and had an abortion when I was 18 years old. I didn't get a chance to mourn this very, very big decision, and I had nobody to talk to about it (my parents don't know to this day, and I'm now a 42 year old mother of a wonderful 18 year old son whom I adopted when he was 9). My partner's mom was "cool" so she knew I had an abortion, and told me she had one at a similar age, and waited to have her kids when they were ready, so I thought "OK! I'll do the same thing! I'll have an abortion, finish college, and then we'll have kids!" But there was nobody there to hold me, talk to me, etc. about how hard it was for me to NOT have that child. I really wanted to have kids. I really wanted to have kids with my partner (we got married as soon as my parents had paid my last semester of tuition because they wouldn't let me marry before graduating, and threatened to cut off my tuition if I did). Long story short, I lost interest in sex after the abortion, didn't make the connection (I know... I was very young, and didn't really know myself! And again, nobody to talk to). My husband didn't understand it either... and so we had a really difficult relationship around intimacy. It only got worse over time, and we never had a healthy sex life for 10 long years. Finally we divorced, and though it was amicable, I look back now and realize how messed up our relationship was. I was often coerced into having sex, and I never felt like he really understood me. Though I went to therapy and eventually made the connection between the abortion and my loss of interest in intimacy, it was kind of too late to repair what we went through, especially because my husband still didn't really understand what the "big deal" was. I think we need to explain the complexity of emotions and the range of emotions around sex AND abortion in sex ed classes. Also the abortion clinic I went to (Back in 1998) had people picketing outside, and an almost gleefully cheerful doctor... it was a really surreal experience, with NO conversation about feelings.

@@monicamacneille3372 I relate to both of your stories. My pregnancy was far from planned and I didn't wanna have kids. When I took the pregnancy test and it was positive, my first reaction was "oh fuck. Shit. Okay. I can have an abortion, it's no big deal", and that's exactly what I had thought all my life. I'd always known that if I ever got pregnant, I'd abort it. But for the next few weeks I kept going back and forth between "I don't want a baby" and "what if we had a baby?". I needed more time to become more comfortable with my decision to abort, but I felt like I was running out of time. I didn't want the embryo to develop into a fetus. So I finally made the decision to go through with it on week 9, took the pills and had a really rough few days. Cried a lot and held onto the embryo I gave birth to. Took it for a walk around town and buried it in the woods. Cried saying goodbye. This happened last year. I still agree with my decision but it doesn't help with the pain. I feel like I lost someone that was maybe a part of me. I just wish it had never happened. I was always taken seriously at the clinic and they actually told me to go back home and think about it, when they saw that I wasn't ready yet. What bothers me is that they didn't tell me in detail what would happen if I took the pills. I had to ask, and they told me what pill 1 and pill 2 would do to me physically, but they didn't say I might give birth to and see the embryo. They didn't prepare me for that or how I might feel emotionally. They offered me support and someone to talk to afterwards when I asked for it, which I'm of course grateful for. But overall they didn't offer enough information.

It’s so interesting to hear everyone’s stories of why they decided to have an abortion. I think sometimes people forget that it’s not just people being reckless or irresponsible. In some cases, getting an abortion is more responsible that bringing a child into the world that can’t be cared for in the way they deserve. There are so many reasons why someone has an abortion and this is just further proof of that. This conversation was so enlightening
@LordBattleSmurf
@LordBattleSmurf 2 жыл бұрын
In the OVERWHELMING majority of cases it IS women being reckless and irresponsible. There are stats on this and its way over 90%. And don't you dare suggest growing up poor is worse than being dismembered while you fully feel pain either (12 weeks), thats a bullsh*t lie to try and justify a woman's amoral decisions and reject accountability for their actions. These women had the baby killed because they were irresponsible and because it would have been an inconvenience to them for 9 months- that's the facts. They cared more about 9 months of their life than the potential 90 years of life of their child. Selfish
@foureyeswonder

@@LordBattleSmurf so you prefer the child to be potentially not well taken care of by people who are not financially or emotionally ready to have children? Is that really a better option for the sake of this whole pro-‘life’ rhetoric? Just because a child lives, doesn’t mean they will live a good life. Living isn’t the same as thriving

Right. Although I have not had one myself, I did miscarry so I really identified with the woman who had the DNC because I can relate to how she felt about the miscarriage. I've also held the hands of people who so badly wanted a child but then found out the child had non-survivable abnormalities. That's gut-wrenching. There's a lot of gray area between reckless and making an informed and responsible choice for yourself - and your other children. We must remember, too, that women still die in this country from childbirth. Not everyone should carry to term. Birth control sometimes fails. People are assaulted. Maybe if we supported families and women better we wouldn't be having this discussion, but here we are.

I would never want to go through an abortion but I also never want children so it would be my only option if I ended up pregnant. I do take precautions and would like to have a permanent way of avoiding this but every doctor I have ever been to has refused. I don’t blame anyone who has ever had an abortion.

To be fair, having a hysterectomy while young is risky, and tubal ligation is only about as effective in preventing pregnancy as an iud or rod, which are reversible.

SAME. I thank the patriarchy for having to have an abortion. Because I told every single doctor I’ve been to since I was 15 (just wanted it on record that I’d held the belief as long as possible) that I didn’t ever want kids. At 23 I started asking for surgery. I think keeping an opinion 8+ years shows it’s been well thought on. But nope they all turned me down. I’m 31 now and they STILL turn me down. Meanwhile my boyfriend had vasectomy when he’d just turned 20. Before he had any kids (this is a requirement for women). Now they say it’s because vasectomy is reversible but that’s not completely true. In many cases it can’t be reversed. That’s always a significant risk. So why allow young men who’ve never had kids to get this surgery and not allow women the same option?? Patriarchy. I have a cousin who had 4 children by the time she was 21. She basically got pregnant every time she had sex, once with a condom & another time while on bc. She had to drop out of hs in 10th grade. Ended up a stripper. Struggled just to survive. She BEGGED SEVEN different docs for surgery. All said she was too young & May change mind. She ended up having 3 more by the time she was 29, when a doc finally agreed to perform surgery. Unless you get incredibly lucky, in order to get surgery as a woman you need to be over 30 with at least one (preferably more) kids. As I have no kids they still deny me at 31....

Ughhh I hate that. Of course I agree that people should be careful, prevention is better than any cure and I am a huge proponent for comprehensive sex ed and access to contraceptives to reduce unwanted pregnancies as much as possible. But the fact of the matter is that even if you take every precaution, things can still happen. It's not a 100% guarantee. Abortion should be available as a last resort when all else fails.

I am a transgender guy, i have a working reproductive system… if i Got pregnant and couldn’t get an abortion, i worry about what would become of me. @@vintereventyr_ that’s very true. Pregnancy can be very traumatizing for people with body issues or existing mental health issues. Pregnancy is not just physically taxing. So many people have no idea about the risks involved to the person carrying a pregnancy. Many many people experience worsening mental health issues both during pregnancy and after giving birth. I wish it was talked about more!

I haven’t seen one comment of anyone freaking out.. and I doubt you did either. People assume the majority of ppl think a certain way even when society has changed. And trying to keep up the idea that everyone is still stuck in the past doesn’t reflect what ppl really think and slows down progress. If you think most ppl still think like that then you feel the need to constantly combat them and create arguments.

I know some people in the comments are shocked over how people can laugh while talking about having abortions but you guys need to realize that not everyone sees the same topics as heavily as you do. Some use laughing as a coping mechanism for their trauma and some genuinely just aren't sad over their abortion and that is okay. If comedians can go on stage and joke about stuff like poverty, racism etc then I don't see what the problem is with these women comfortably laughing over getting an abortion.

I honestly think this format makes more sense in a way. A big issue with these kinds of topics is that people tend to think it's something you have to tiptoe around. Yes, for some people it is a big trauma that hard to talk about but for most, it's not. Putting the discussion in a more casual setting validates that aspect which is not something you see a lot.
