He should have played twice as often within those two years. Either that or longer sessions: no longer than 1.5hrs each, so probably a mix with more sessions. You can still play beyond 1.5hrs but, supposedly, it doesn't count much toward practice gains.

Absolutely right. I've been playing guitar for about 15 years and I am not half as good as some of the guys and girls featured in this video. In the first 3-4 years I practised a lot. 2-3 hours each day. After that I just played the guitar. I rarely practise nowadays because I don't have the time for it anymore.

Kind of a "false positive" title for the vid. Plus all he had was a short clip of persons playing then guess. But not knowing how often or hard that person practices or even challenge ones self. Cuz I know people ( myself included) rehearse music 2 to 3 HR days 5 days a week plus the night of the show and the set list was nailed. But all that practice doesn't really help u to grow if u r not challenging yourself. I've been playing guitar since I was 9 yr old. I'm 28 now and I love playing but I dnt challenge myself as hard as I should so I can play tons of songs perfectly and for as long as I've been playing I should have mastered the art by now. It is my hobby and my escape as well as my greatest accomplishment and my worst set back. But at the end of the day I'm happy to have the ability to express myself thru the art music. It is and will continue to be a huge aspect of my life. Also sorry for goimg on that rant for a min. Just like to talk with other creative ppl about music.

I've been playing for about 15 years but I doubt you'd be able to tell. I've never been particularly technical nor have I done a huge amount of woodshedding. First of all, I was always kind of intimidated by the guitar gods I admired and never imagined becoming as skilled as Eddie van Halen or his contemporaries, much less somebody like Yngwie Malsteem or Steve Vai. I always imagined myself as more of a rhythm guitarist, and I only learned to play lead partly out of boredom, but mostly because I have zero opportunities to meet other guitarists and form a band. I'm both guitarists in my two-person desktop-produced band out of necessity. I seem to have plateaued anyway. I tried to teach myself sweep-picking last year but I never got past a certain speed after about a month. I'm decent at alternate picking and hammer-ons and pull-offs, but I'm more classic rock than shred.

I've been playing 35 years. I rarely miss a day. I hardly ever play solos. I only play fast runs for the exercise and dexterity challenge. I would say I'm fairly smooth and composed on what I play but I'm not that worried about it. Even though a lot of people told me I should be in a band I only play because I love to play. I was 10 when Back in Black came out, I heard that song and it lit a fire. I just HAD to make that sound! It worries me that so many people seem to approach music as a competition. I've never been in a band, I don't shred (even though I started playing in the Vai, Satriani, Malmsteen era), I hardly even play solos and I couldn't be happier. Play because it feels good and it makes you happy. Nothing else matters.
