An odd audio mixing issue that could be looked into: it seems the left ear channel is fine, but the right ear channel is muted.

It is good to see the succession of leadership from Jesus to the contemporary Pope. With that succession, we were able to look back, learn and study from it. Father Cress said it well, “The evolution of papacy is getting better and better through time” is how I took at it too. As individual or as a group, we could only hope that the leadership may strive through this ever changing world with the help of the Holy Spirit.

I had a similar audio issue to what another commenter reported. The audio is only coming through my left earbud but not through my right earbud.

I am an Anglican with a great deal of respect for the Catholic Church. There are some things that I have difficulty with, and the idea that certain pronouncements of the pope can be called infallible is one of them. I see the logic in having a top leader, so to speak. What I think is dangerous is the doctrine of papal infallibility. I do understand that it only refers to doctrines promulgated from the chair of Peter. However, I see definite possibilities with the current pope, or his immediate successors, of him sitting on the throne, and declaring that certain moral teachings can now be rejected, or that certain doctrines can be loosened. Suppose one of the German bishops ended up becoming pope and decided to do this. Would Catholics then be required to obey? I think it is always dangerous to give anyone, even in limited circumstances, absolute power. Our ultimate loyalty is to God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. All human leadership is valid only in so far as it conforms to Christ.

When speaking from teaching authority the pope is infallible. This authority is not granted him bc of any qualities of his own but bc of his role as head of Christ's one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. It comes from God and is safeguarded by God. Christ promised this. It is the method He chose to safeguard us from theological error in regards to our salvation. Otherwise its all personal opinion.

@@don7502 This doctrine is quite modern in its origin. And what safeguard is there if there is a bad pope who misuses this authority?
@don7502
@don7502 Жыл бұрын
@@marilynmelzian7370 Whatever specific theory of the atonement you hold to (ransom, penal substitution, satisfaction, etc) is also modern in its origin. In fact, the word "atonement" is itself a modern term. Just because the fully mature idea is modern doesn't mean it didn't exist, less refined, from the start. That the pope and bishops, and especially the See of Rome, is the final authority and cannot error in its definitive teachings has been understood in the historical Church from the beginning. That understanding has been refined since; thus new terminology fitted for a refined understanding. You think if Christ promised that He would guide His Church into all truth and that the gates of hell wouldn't prevail against it that any man, or creature, has the power to disrupt God's promise?

@@marilynmelzian7370 Mary, Infallibility is not an invention, it's a guarantee given by Jesus to His one Church; the only one He built on Peter. Moreover, our Lord gives such guarantee to His Church until the end of times, permanently sanctifying Her with the truth: ▪︎JOHN 17:17-19 17. Sanctify them in TRUTH. Your word is TRUTH. 18. Just as you have sent me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. 19. And it is for them that I sanctify myself, so that they, too, may be SANCTIFIED IN TRUTH. Mary, being SANCTIFIED in TRUTH literally means: INFALLIBILITY. May God bless your discernment.

@@joecastillo8798 I agree that infallibility is a reality. But that infallibility is because it is Christ who is infallible and he will uphold his church by his presence and the work of the Holy Spirit, bringing us back from error. I have no fears about the church prevailing. What I do worry about is people being misled through an overconfidence in the human hierarchy. It is true that humans have been given the office of proclaiming Christ’s truth, and leadership is necessary. But no person is ultimate in authority. Only Christ is ultimate. We see this over and over again in scripture and in history, where leaders are anointed, but often fail. God raises up voices to bring them back to the truth, or to rebuke them.
