Ok, totally skeptical of this but it bloody worked! I spent hours and hours at the pier, 300+ bait, caught 3 Barreleye's, 2 Coelacanth's and many many oarfish buy not the these last two. I genuinely thought my pier was broken or something, then tried this and after 3 saves, BOOM. MAHI MAHI. (Now to work for the trevally). Thank you!

Have literally spent hundreds of bait trying to get a Mahi Mahi in this game. At least 500, if I had to guess. So much bait that I just started to assume the guides saying it was at the Pier at all times of day were just wrong, somehow. I really wish they’d nerf the Sea Bass drop rates. Having rare fish be in the same pool as the most common fish in the game is so frustrating.

THANK GOD THAT THIS STILL WORKS, like many others I was skeptical in the beginning, but I had nothing to lose, I read some comments and cleared my dock, collected around 20 fish bait and started the process. PSA DO NOT DECORATE YOUR PIER! I spend 20+ hrs fishing off my custom designed dock and never got a single pier fish. Finally thought to kick the designs and I caught a blue marlin AND mahi-mahi in 20 minutes. Idk if placing items will affect it too but just to be safe keep your pier clean

@@namikkou Very late to the party, but you can manipulate the game to force certain types of bugs to spawn. Like, put some trees in your inventory and take them to a bamboo mystery island. Eliminate all other sources of bug spawning like flowers and such. Only tree bugs (and rock/sea snail) will appear!

IT REALLY WORKS!! Prepared about 30+ baits. 2nd reset got giant trivally, 7th reset got mahi-mahi. Remember to prepare more than 30 since sometimes the auto-save is faster than 3 mins. I'm a new player, and when i start looking at the appearance time of the fish, i just realize that i only got 2 days left (or wait several month) to catch this 2 fish. Glad only tried 20+ baits before finding this treasure map. THANKS!

Has Nintendo updated this now? I set a timer for 3 minutes and stopped after 2 minutes if I didn’t catch anything pressed home button then “X” to close the game straight away. Yet when I start the game again and get to the pier my fish food had gone. It seems to be saving a lot quicker than 3 minutes. :(

Well, the reset makes fishing easier for you because you can easily reset the shadow. That being said, the odds of catching the fish didn't change. This is just a way to catch it more efficiently instead of making bait all the time because that takes more time. Hope you will catch them soon, never give up :D

i have to admit, i was really skeptical that this would work. i mean, what difference does it make if you use 20 stacks of fish bait in one sitting vs. a couple stacks, then quitting and reloading, and trying again? but surely enough...i spent like 90 minutes grinding through at least 20 stacks of fish bait (granted i caught a bunch of rare fish i hadn't caught yet so i'm not complaining) and didn't catch a single giant trevally. i tried this trick, and sure enough it worked on the third try.

I generally don’t like using any kind of cheaty method for anything in this game but it takes forever to craft the bait. If they had added a simple feature that allows you to craft many items at once instead of having to do it individually then I wouldn’t be using this method. I was beginning to lose hope after a bout 30 tries… I took a pause after the 20th try I think. I was wondering if this trick might not be working after all those years BUT IT DID! But there is a few things I should say because I think Nintendo changed a few things. I saw a comment that you have to set your timer 2 MINUTES right after the saving icon appears on the top right of your screen. That’s what I did because the saving isn’t every 3 minutes, it’s shorter. So yeah, that fluffin’ mahi-mahi has been caught you fluffin’ fluff😂😂😂.

Okay, I’m officially giving up on the Mahi Mahi 😬 Countless amounts of bait and days on end spend on trying to catch it, at least an hour of this trick and still nothing.
