It is what is called a metered hymn or metered singing. Dr. Watts styled singing is considered the same. This song is an old Welsh hymn written by William Williams in the 18th century.

@Goodpuppy, it's good to see your interest in the old hymns. It would help you to know some of the Bible to really appreciate these songs of praise which hymns are. As you read the Bible, you will get an understanding of what those authors of the songs were trying to express in song. Blessings.

Interesting to hear the variance in style for lining out. Thanks for sharing. I do want to point out that Isaac Watts wasn't credited to writing this song. It is accredited to William Williams from 1745. Of course, the great "Dr. Watts" did write some wonderful songs that are still lined out today.

@GOODPUPPY123 Im an Ex-Jehovah Witness, I was saved by Jesus Christ two years ago. The name of God as revealed in Scripture is Yahweh, or in english, "Jehovah God". Most modern translations simply translate Yahweh as "the LORD". Jehovah is the God the Hebrews, and the God of the Church of Christ. Jesus claimed to be Jehovah when he took on that name of the "I AM" in John 8:58.

@Hiw333 So anybody who believe in the Lord is a Jehovah witness lol ---------- It's true. Even in the NWT... when you cross-reference the verse JW's get their name from in Isaiah 43:10 it points back to statements by Jesus saying "You are MY witnesses".
@jbdancers6 жыл бұрын
FearNoWeapon777 it is beautiful to hear people sing and call God Almighty by His Name Jehovah, also known as Yahweh, as Jehovah is our Heavenly Father and God Almighty and Jesus or Yeshua is His only begotten Son and the Christ, the Messiah through whom we are saved and given access to a relationship with Jehovah our Heavenly Father and through Jesus Christ shed blood and resurrection we can have life eternal by putting our faith in Jesus Christ and in Jehovah God Almighty. I am one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and we witness for Jehovah God our Father and for His Son Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Some people get confused and think we only witness for Jehovah and that we don’t believe in Jesus Christ as His Son and and our Savior but they’re mistaken because we do believe in Jesus Christ as Jehovah God’s only begotten Son and our Savior. We can’t have one without the other. We can’t have the Father if we reject the Son and we can’t have the Son if we reject the Father. We witness for Jehovah God Almighty and His Son Jesus Christ our King. Praise Jah! Which is what Hallelujah means! It means Hail or Praise the True God Jah or Jehovah. You’ll find many places in the Bible where Jehovah is also called Jah or Yah as a short form of Yahweh. Just thought I’d clarify for anyone who might have questions about these things and also some food for thought.

@San47di1 Jehovah's Witnesses took it upon themselves to hijack the name, as if it belongs to them only!, as far as I can trace it back this English transliteration of the original Hebrew name for God seems might have been used 900 years. Anyway its a great song, I am going to have it sung at my mom's funeral, the family was from Wales and so she would have known it. I think it was also sung at Princess Diana's funeral in 1997; but I don't know whether they sang Though Great Jehovah or Redeemer.

Nobody that "man" designates a "saint" is a saint to me because the only ONE person to make that distinction is "God" the Father himself. Where ":man" thinks they have been given this power of judgment is beyond me ... but it is definitely Not true. After re-reading my post, I see I said Saint James when I meant "King" James, & even he was just a great a sinner as we ALL are. If we pay attention to "rumor," he may have been even worse then some. Who knows? Glad I'm not qualified to judge. :-)
@earlinebeaman6845 жыл бұрын
Hebrews 6:10. the children of God are referred to as saints. You said "not qualified to judge", no you are not but you just did. God's Church and the Roman Catholic church are 2 different churches.
@calvintorrey37905 жыл бұрын
San47di if you wanna know who the saints are read Psalms50:5. Lol we are judges but we judge through the wisdom of the Holy Spirit and we judge starting with ourselves. So if we spend enough time judging our actions then we will have wisdom enough to help other brothers and sisters when they are in sin. We have to stop treating the word JUDGE like it’s a sin. Pre Constantine Christianity is not to be compared with this stuff we see today which is the iniquity(lawlessness) we see today. Have a blessed day in the true messiah and those that live AS he lived and take heed to his words shall have eternal life.
@lesababy12 жыл бұрын
You're right Jehovah is the name of the God of the Jehovah witness. That is because Jehovah Witness' are Christians. Aren't they? They should be worshiping the same God as other Christians. BTW not only Christians worship him so do the Hebrews/Jews and the Muslims should be also.
@brendangardner631312 жыл бұрын
there is a difference when you say black church and african american church, because "black" refers to a large amount of different cultures that would include cultures that do not worship like we do. The african american churchworships differently than any other black race in earth. Which sets us apart from all the other in lve here is your answer.
