Thanks for the tutorial and advice! I found a sidewalk special with a sign "free - burns hot" Lil Tex across the street. Decided to do a full rebuild, the ultimate cause of failure was the burn pot was rotted through. Replaced hot rod as well as I could see there was damage from overburning and probably not cleaning often. Old style controller, so decided to do that as well, so at that point, bought a full parts kit and replaced auger motor and induction fan as well. $160 and a like new Traeger. Granted with a little corrosion, but also already broken in. Great explanation of the replacement process. Hold my beer and pass me that pork butt.

Where was that fuse at?
@hikerJohn
@hikerJohn 2 жыл бұрын
Good video . . . Mine did not get hot tonight which is why I'm watching this video. Use some anti-cease on the screws like the high temp stuff the use on diesel exhaust systems temperature probes. My probe is not burned away so maybe it's the fuse? For now I used a torch to light it.
@AmericanRiverAceHardwareBBQ
@AmericanRiverAceHardwareBBQ 2 жыл бұрын
If the fuse blows then the controller will not get power, if the hot rod is not getting hot then disconnect the purple connector until you get a replacement it will most likely end up blowing the fuse.. but first check for hard build up in the burn pot
@hikerJohn
@hikerJohn 2 жыл бұрын
@@AmericanRiverAceHardwareBBQ There's no build up in the pot and the controller works. I had to watch another video to see where the fuse was located.

Pro tip. Tie i piece of string to the clip end of old one before pulling it through. the transfer the string to the end of new one and pull it back through. Super simple and removes a lot of frustration .

Got rid of my Louisiana Smoker hoping for a pellet grill that was a bit more user friendly. This fix seems to be a common thing. I'm regretting getting rid of my old home built wood smoker. Pellet grills seem like they're more trouble than they're worth.
@danielhill5197

Hot rods on the AC model pellet grills usually last 10-12 years, I see a lot of bad trouble shooting that leads to replacement of the hotrod when the user simply had bad pellets for poor storage or a long period of no use causing moisture to swell the pellets

Great video! So, I take it that a hot rod either burns hot enough to ignite the pellets, or it doesn't get warm at all? What about the fan? If the fan fails, does the rod still get hot? My fan is not working, but the rod is warm. Could it be the circut board not telling the fan to turn on? I have a Century 22.

My ole lady bought me two three of these smokers and I was suppose to cook myself Father’s Day dinner or whatever but I had a feeling it would turn to junk after couple uses and regular cleanings. They last bout a year and junk again. Either need a new woman or buy myself dinner. Can’t be throwing smokers out left and right.
