Also thank you from Canada. My grandfather was born in Nottingham. I never met him as he died when my dad was 16, but he was a coal miner here in Canada, and now I know why. I didn't know coal mining was a major industry in Nottingham. Thanks Ian!

You not missing much. There is always stabbings going on in Nottingham lately. Someone few weeks ago was stabbed in the street in town. And someone not long before that stabbed to death also outside Victoria center. It has got worse lately. The last five yrs the locals have become very angry and there alot of homeless people and people with mental health problems. The youth are always looking for trouble and the men in Nottingham seem to stare and gloat at women. It is becoming worse and employment and things are now on low. I don't recommend anyone living in notts. There better places in England to live

My home town too. Born in Nottingham City hospital. Pity about the mess they’ve made of the Victoria Station site.Whoever designed that centre should be gaoled.

Most of this is not true. Whilst yes there are better places to live, it’s most definitely nowhere near being a bad place to live! This is coming from someone who was raised here but also lucky enough to have lived in Italy for many years too and have therefore seen the best of both worlds. There have been a few stabbings lately but 99% of the time it’s youth that have “beef” and they’re not random attacks. I feel very safe here. Much love :)

Good insight of my home city Nottingham is a nice place to visit and has some beautiful parks and the River Trent along the embankment to Trent Bridge. If I'm totally honest, it is not as good as it used to be back in the 80s and 90s but still good. It is a city that is worth visiting for a day trip though

If you re-do the walk in Nottingham Lace Market again the Adam's Building had a chapel on the lowest floor you can see from the street the windows were stained glass and all employees had to attend a prayer meeting there before they started work. Also the Broadway area was more famous for been the heart of "Costume and Mantle" high class ladies fashion wear and most London fashion Houses and Department stores had associated firms there, you could regularly see racks of clothing been transferred from one company to another. I know about this as my father ran one of the companies. Keep up the good work.

Ian thank you your tour brought back many memories. I remember the original Paul Smith shop off Bridal gate , meeting Paul in the 1970’s and buying a suede harlequin jacket. Also in the Trip To Jerusalem we used to play a medieval game in one of the rooms where you had a bulls ring on a chain and you had to get it on to a bulls horn on the wall. Yes , you were correct about Boots , I also worked out at Beeston. Appreciated the nice pace of your talking and walking. Thank you . Paul. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ correct

Hi Ian, thank you for telling me a fair few things about the town I didn’t know.. but I’m surprised you stood outside The Broadway without mentioning that the building behind the new glass facade was the Methodist chapel William Booth - founder of The Salvation Army attended while a child growing up in Sneinton. It’s a shame you missed my favourite Fothergill building as well, his offices are a hidden gem, and were literally 20 yards away from where you started, up on George Street. Probably a tale for mis-behaving small children, but when I was little and Shire Hall was still a courthouse, my mother used to point to a couple of square holes cut into the steps and filled with small blocks of stone, and tell me that they were the post holes for the gibbet when public executions were held there.

Nottingham is a city that is not big but has enough of everything. Just the right size. Not having the noise, pollution and crimes associated with bigger cities yet doesn’t feel like abandoned or neglected like some small cities are. It has a very strategic location being in the midlands, not so far from London and not so far from the North. If only some companies in Birmingham or London could move their headquarters in Nottingham, it could be as promising as Manchester.

Love this, being a Nottingham lass. I do wonder what the philanthropist, Jesse Boot, who gifted so much land, and recreation areas to the people of Nottingham, would think of his stores today? They are definitely set up as profit makers, rather than to help the less well off in society.

Ian , thanks for this informative description of my home city. If I may offer a little trivia to complement your encyclopedic knowledge; at 34.50 just past the Boots store is the former Alliance & Leicester Building Society branch which I had the privilege of developing on their behalf c.1990. Working with Notingham-based architects Crampin & Pring we needed to make a statement as the building turned the corner from Pelham St on to Clumber St. This was in the heady days of Notts Cricket club and their successes, so what better way to celebrate this than to create a cricket bat feature in glass! It also recognises the tradition of bat manufacturing in the city by Messrs Gunn & Moore.
