The Springfield Country Club. That ballroom set was huge. I miss the 80’s and the big budget the soaps had. It didn’t always mean a better storyline but it did show that the soaps could compete with prime time. Now, they are lucky if a set is bigger then a broom closet.

This theme is very sweet!! Kinda romantice, veryyyyy soap-opera oriented. If and when I ever get married I would like this to be played for the first dance. I mean the entire long closing verision. Tooooooo beautiful ! !

The best GL ever had. That sunburst background was just gorgeous -- the title design including the spark over the "i" was brilliant also. It was just so rich and elegant for the 80's. Did anyone notice the background image changed somewhat on the closings as instead of the sunburst background it became more of a glittering, turning jewel, but still INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL?

Yeah, this was classic GL. What I like is how there was so many different types of characters back then, even older people, and they were RESPECTED. I love seeing Henry wave at Quint/Nola in their air balloon. Why dont TPTB understand that alot of younger people LIKE seeing older characters. I know I did. Back when I was a teenager, I enjoyed seeing those characters, because the actors knew what they were doing and always delivered. GL is a shell of its former self now.

Oh the memories this song brings back. I've just discovered clips from 82-85 on here and have enjoyed re-watching them. So many scenes I never saw because I didn't get home from school until the second half began. But my summer of 84 was defined by Beth and Lujack - never missed an episode. In my opinion the best love story that's ever graced daytime tv.

The general consensus is that the Theme with the sun coming through the leaves is the favorite. Although the imagery and music is hauntingly beautiful, for me it's a little sad. My mom watched this soap faithfully, and it makes me think of her. She's no longer with us now. Ahhh, but this Theme here, to me it's the absolute best. I love it. so 80's. And I agree, that Disco Theme is heinous. This one, OMG!

The disco theme isn't bad until you have Tony Reardon demonstrating his macho tendencies and disco dancers. The music and the clips are catchy but then they ruined it with all that other crap.

If Guiding Light kept up with the great stories and families of the 80's and early 90's it would NEVER have been cancelled. Most people I know would still record/dvr soaps if they kept the great stories and not try to cram these new characters who nobody cares about down our throats!

This was my favorite opening too. They changed it slightly around 1986 to a faster version which I didn't like. I also liked the version from 1975-1981. I used to watch this every afternoon when I came home from school. started watching in 1977 when I was 11(sometime when Eve went blind and there was a fire in her apartment) and stopped watching it on reg basis around 1989 when Roger came back. I still watched it a little from time to time until 1992 when Alexandra left the show. It was not the same any more and they brought in too many dumb characters that were not interested.The 80's were the best- Roger coming back and kidnapping Rita, Jennifer's trial, Alan leaving in 1984 but was still alive and returned in 1986 for two more years, Carrie Todd's personalities, Diane's murder, etc.

The theme from 1983 to 1991 is called My Guiding Light and it was created by Rob Mounsey who went on to create Hold On To Love in 1991! Some of the notes in Hold On To Love sound similar to My Guiding Light. I often wonder if it was like a sequel to the 80s theme.

When the soaps got away from their roots that's when they lost their audience. Now all the soaps have generic openings and music except for DAYS and Y&R. Although DAYS is the only soap that features the same opening sequence.

Alexandra Spaulding and Reva Shayne are by far my favorite characters but Alexandra was never the same after Beverlee Mckinsey left the part. Well I also really enjoyed the time when Reva had a clone around 1998
