This brings back memories. I used to come home from school and watch it. It was a more gentle time on television.

Bert’s blue and yellow living room were so vivid in a striking 1970s way. I love it.

My favorite Christmas episodes on GL were those that focused on the Bauers. I fondly remember Mike singing O Holy Night at Vespers, as well as his leading family and friends in singing other Christmas carols in Bert's living room.

Thanks for the upload !! I will never forgive the show for making Floyd a killer..

Yes, he was so much better as the sometimes annoying, slightly clueless, guitar-playing, in love with Nola (even when she only had eyes for Kelly) Floyd. These were definitely the best of the Guiding Light years, and mid to late 80's, with the Josh and Reva storylines. RIP Lisa Brown (Nola) and Jerry Van Dorn (Ross), both of whom passed away several months ago.

@@birdsfan57 I was so shocked to hear of Lisa Brown's passing. I will always carry these days of the Guiding Light in my heart, watched it with my Great Granny, loved her and miss her so much. Between 1975 thru 1982 are my best memories of watching this show with her.

Very sad. Then they kill off Jackie and Justin leaves leaving Philip to be raised by only Alan with one step-mom after the next.

SoapsNthings, thank you again for these wonderful videos. I'm curious to know whom you and other GL fans think are the show's top three matriarchs and top three patriarchs. My picks for the matriarchs are Bert Bauer, Maureen Bauer, and Meta Bauer (in that order), and for patriarchs, my picks are Papa Bauer, Henry Chamberlain, and HB Lewis. They all loved their families unconditionally and were sources of comfort and light on the show.

I wish Cindy Picket had played Jackie till the end of the storyline with Elizabeth confessing she knew the truth.

@Draper Scott It was a bit of a let down to me after investing in watching it all unfold with Cindy Pickett in the role of Jackie. I know recasts are common on soaps, but it would have hit a home run if she finished the storyline. After the role was recast, the show killed the character off after about a year in a plane crash. Jackie and Elizabeth could have driven storylines for decades. Elizabeth never returned to the show after she departed in 1981.

I didn't watch GL until the summer of 1983. I am curious. Is this episode Elizabeth's exit from the show? I have to admit Elizabeth kept her promise in that she would never tell Phillip. Others did 3 years later . . .

+Shane Brown As it turns out, Lezlie Dalton's final appearance as Elizabeth was roughly one month later (January, 1981). And yes, thanks to Bradley Raines, Phillip eventually found out the truth in 1983.

Alan Spaulding was nothing but a manipulator and user. He took advantage of people when it suited his needs. He was a wealthy businessman who got what he wanted, because of his money and his charm. He had poor Hope Bauer so wrapped around his finger that it wasn't even funny. Hope came from a family that wasn't perfect, as they all had their own skeletons in the closet, but, who doesn't? Hope wasn't after Alan's money. I think she really believed that she loved Alan and maybe she did. I can't recall of her ever having a serious love interest until Alan came along. Alan drove a big wedge between Hope and her dad. He also ruined Mike and Elizabeth's chances of ever getting married by planting lies in Philips head about Mike.

These were the days we lived for GL. Such a rich cast and complicated story lines. The cast stayed strong until about the late 1980’s then it was never the same.

As a kid Allen Spaulding seemed so distinguished. At 50, he seems a little more flaming.
