[STORY SPOILERS] Hey WP, not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but you talk about the Mouth of Mordremoth as if it's some servant or champion or lieutenant, but it's pretty clear that MoM is Mordremoth's actual current body. The jungle is the rest, but this is his head. You can also tell by the main story where Mordremoth is distracted by the army outside. Eventually, after defeating MoM, you see he doesn't die, but then suddenly he spasms and his brain seems to shut off and he falls down on the spike. That's the commander from the story killing his mind at the same time. At this point the head can no longer function and no longer regrow after it's been defeated.

_(responding two-and-a-half years later)_ Correct! The super map-wide event to attack the Mouth of Mordremoth is actually a _distraction_ so that the Pact Commander and [their] team can sneak in unnoticed and attack Mordremoth's mind directly with the assistance of -someone familiar;- both events occur _at the same time!_ However, I don't think the Story mode goes out of its way to point this out; they know the Pact is gathering, but I don't think they make it clear that the attack outside is happening at the same time you're infiltrating. Likewise, the Pact forces (the massive two-hour event you describe in this video) are potentially unaware of the Commander's sneak-attack and plan even though they are aware [they] are in the area. I tend to think of the physical Mouth of Mordremoth as having a different state of existence- one _with_ its mind intact, and the other _without_ its mind intact. The way I see it, the body of the Elder Dragon Mordremoth is actually a massive chunk of landscape, extending far beyond the immediate reach of the Mouth. When they call it "the Jungle Dragon", I think it is meant to be taken literally- every single vine, thorn and pod that you see across all of the deep Maguuma Jungle and its extensions all the way to Ascalon _is_ Mordremoth's body! What we see in the Mouth's appearance is perhaps only the most-accessible part of the Elder Dragon's body, but the Mouth is only a tiny fraction of the Elder Dragon's total body size! This also explains how sylvari can hear it clearly as far east as Ascalon- because its _singular body extends that far._ Now, we know that all Elder Dragons feed on ley energy, and Mordremoth's _primary_ source of food is a naturally-occurring/replenishing concentration of ley energy that is deposited in Dragon's Stand. We also know from Story (specifically the dragon research lab in Rata Novus and the Exalted map in Auric Basin) that some of the highest concentrations of detectable ley energy is in Dragon's Stand; that's not to say there aren't other pools of ley energy across Tyria, just that Mordremoth staked its claim in one of the larger pools of it. And since we know Elder Dragons absorb ley energy up until they are defeated, and then very slowly leak it out back into the world over the course of 10,000 years-or-so, I suspect that of the Elder Dragons we are aware of (exceptions being the under-defined latter three- Primordus, Jourmag and 'Bubbles'), Mordremoth's _body_ can continue to regenerate _even if_ its mind is defeated! _That_ is why, after a short break, the Mouth of Mordremoth appears to resurrect, you hear its evil chuckle, and the map resets- it already knows that it cannot be destroyed in its entirety and that defeating the Mouth alone _is not enough._ It may take longer for its _mind_ (and thus its ability to control both its minions and the sylvari/Mordrem Guard) to regenerate, but its _body_ survives. My point is: As long as the entirety of the Maguuma Jungle itself exists (and this _includes_ all of the asura and sylvari lv01-40 zones, since they too occupy Maguuma territory), so too will Mordremoth exist.

dragon's stand is fuckin epic, this is how zhaitan should of been. i pretty much was just standing there looking at this massive epic beast. kinda reminded me of shadow of the colossus. this was really well done imo

I actually like the fact that the event is easy; this map for me is a 2 hour bite size of engaging and impressive content where I know I'll be rewarded in the end. I understand the need for diversity, but this is absolutely my favorite way to play, engaging content that will surely give me a good reward, instead of possibly stressful content with a big chance of losing and not getting much for my time.

+TheLKStar yeah there's a nice variety of difficulty in the maps. Verdant Brink is clearly a guild map, Tarir is for semi-organized map commmanders, dragon stance is for everyone.

Lore-wise about the Mouth, it seems that the Mouth IS Mordremoth, at least his primary physical form, if not the original body we saw awaken at the end of Living Story Season 1. Its likely that Mordremoth can take control of any of his minions at any time (he's the ED of mind after all), and the Mouth primarily acts as his body.

The Mouth of Mordremoth IS Mordremoth. Either what is left of him (his original body) or what he's becoming. At some point Mouth of Mordremoth and Mordremoth are used interchangeably. It talks in first person WITH Mordremoths voice. In the story, Canach says that this is the best time because Mordremoth is busy with his fight outside..

STORY SPOILERS I believe this map meta event takes place at the same time as the last two story missions. As you make your way to the helix, the pact advances through the map. Shortly after you enter the last mission, Mordremoth says "Armies cannot stop me!", Canah adding that Mordremoth is distracted by the fight outside. This is when the Pact engage the Mouth of Mordremoth. As you do your thing in the last story mission you blow up Mordremoth from the inside, sort of, and this is he explosion we see in the end cinematic of the Dragon's Stand before the Mouth falls onto a spike. In Dragon's Stand you're not the Commander of the Pact anymore. You're just a Pact soldier, alongside hundreds of other Pact soldiers, fighting the fight. (I do want to check if they ever call you "Commander" after the meta starts, but I don't think so.) I like that aspect of it. I also think that the nature of this Mouth is different then the nature of Zhaitan's Mouth or Eyes. In Zhaitans case, they seemed like separate, distinct entities. They were linked with Zhaitan of course, and obeyed it's every command without a second though, but seemed to have their own character and at least in the case of the Eyes we know whey were someone before that. In this case it seems to me like the Mouth of Mordremoth is directly connected with Mordremoth as a part of him, like it was made from him, as opposed to him Mordrem who are distinct beings but with their will completely dominated, like the Risen.

WP, I think you hurt yourself by not going into Dragonstand before the community figured out how to do it so well, for a few days it was HARD, REALLY REALLY HARD, before the circle method was out and people knew to spread out on the islands failure was by far more common then success. It gave the map a whole different feeling I think you would have enjoyed, but now you will never see it.

The mouth doesn't need to eat all the islands in order for the event to fail, there's a ley line energy bar that can get filled fast way before that could happen. Also like others said, you can easily fail on the pods phase, all you need is one person or two to kill the boss before everyone is ready and you have a pod up. When it's done right it can feel pretty easy, but I think you underestimated it a little, there are plenty of opportunities to fail if even a fraction of the participants don't know what to do and don't read the map chat.

[possible spoilers] I thought of the Mouth of Mordremoth as being Mordremoth's actual body (the one we see in the end of season 1 opening its mouth). Makes a little more sense as the final cut scene he appears to be coming back for another attack but falters due to some other event (what happens at the end of the personal story). That's just my theory as the whole "Mordy is the jungle" thing seemed kinda lame.

Just like Zaithan could see through his Zaithan's Eyes or either eat through Zaithan's mouth. This is how I understood it, and it makes more sense. It was told that destroying him physically was ridiculous since he could be anywhere.

Maybe the body is used as a champion at this point because he has become so powerful however I think this is what he looked like when he woke up and started eating magic before he started using the dream. Also as stated the scale of this thing is way bigger than any champion, and it has Mordremoth's voice

We've seen a system like this though, Attack on Lion's Arch. It's just we didn't get kicked out there but rather died on the initial assault due to miasma. Then there's the taking everything back follow-up where we get an hour to dick around.

Great video, one small correction: The failure-state in the Mouth of Mordremoth fight is *not* that *all* islands get destroyed, it's that Mordremoth absorbs too much leyline energy. This happens *way* before all islands are down ! On my first kill yesterday, the Mouth got to about 80% leyline energy absorbtion before we defeated it and we still have a good amount of islands standing. So yes, it's absolutely possible to fail the event if people don't know what they're doing and/or constantly flock to 1 or 2 places (usually commander tags). PS: Dragon's Stand as a whole and especially the Mouth of Mordremoth fight are *AWESOME* and everybody should play them !

I led my first ever Dragon's Stand Meta and I am surprised that I didn't just succeed in leading the entire map to the Mouth of Mordremoth, but I did it in a fairly fast time, in only a little over an hour. Glad you got to experience the epic "final boss"

Interesting that you referred to the Mouth of Mordremoth as a vine. The first time I saw him I thought it was pretty cool that arena net had decided to go with an eastern dragon this time. I admit I sat here thinking "A vine? He's very clearly a pretty standard looking eastern dragon. He doesn't look anything like…a......vine! Oh my gosh! He doesn't have wings OR legs! He's meant to look like a vine!" Kinda. The scaly grey breaks it for me. But that does explain the stylistic choice.

My map failed the fight last night. Mordremoth consumes enough ley energy to blast the resistance out of his domain, and the map closes after a short cinematic showing him retreating to the leystone tower near the islands.

I really liked how they did getting the ranger's pets. Its like rangers got a little more from the expansion. It felt REALLY rewarding after taming each pet.

I do kind of wish the event was harder. It was super fun when someone yelled "get off the island NOW" and everyone who didn't fly off fell to their death after the mouth destroyed the island. I thought it would be really cool watching the number of islands start to diminish as the fight progressed.

This map is easy NOW after almost 2 weeks because ppl figured out the strategy for it (the circle thing). This was a major pain to do in the first days even in organised groups. I had 3-4 fails before the circle strat was established and everyone started to succeed after that.

I absolutely agree with you. Imo they should have put a mastery gate before the last story step.. I know people didn't like them but it had the consequence that I always did the meta-event of the current map before I went on with the story. The pacing felt way better and the story + open world really felt connected instead of two seperate things

Your ran circles we at Desolation just make 3 tags of people at each pod. 5 to 8 people and hold the the pod kill enemies and not let anyone revive the pods. Whatever is left of us then dps down the Legendary boss at 5% or anything below that then we stop. As soon as all the pods are down every part of the map we just dps down the boss in a short amount of time. Requires a huge amount of coordination.

I definitely enjoy this maps meta more than any other meta we've had, but in a way I'm bummed that we're obligated to go to this one map for maguuma exp farming and probably for general loot too. The other maps just can't compete with DS because they have so much downtime during the challenges and during parts of all the escorts and pylon activations. DS brings reliable constant mod spawns for a huge portion of the event, and getting very high participation in the map is a considerably less involved task.

Seems to me all the zones and events are training us for raids step by step. As mentioned in an earlier vid, it would be fantastic if this could be triggered on demand as a guild event, though the way it is kind of prohibits that.

You were overestimating how easy the map is, just a bit, because it took you a while to actually do it. While you weren't doing it there were a lot of failures (yes, even at the boss). We were simply figuring stuff out, you just missed this period because you weren't doing Dragon's Stand

dragon stand is more like an open world raid, similar to the marionette, but on a much larger scale. regarding the mouth of mordremoth, i think it's fair to say it *is* mordremoth, in the traditional sense of what's his "dragon" part. the story says he's distracted fighting outside, so i assume he just focused his consciousness on that dragon, as "a ton of tendrils and shit with a mind of its own" isn't exactly dragon-like. also, have you really not heard about all the crashes that people keep getting? sure it's not stalling the event, but they're just as bad.

I had the worst experience on this map, tried the meta event 5-6 times and failed every time because people were either oblivious to the map chat and whispers, were afk-ing or simply trolling the commanders who tried to organize something. I guess it can be easy if you have a map full of people who are actually listening and willing to do the meta event.

The expansion story would have been better off if they made the Mouth of Mordremoth, just Mordremoth. and the Story boss, the mouth of mordremoth. Seems to work better since the mouth is both a dragon and matches the snake like quality of the HoT logo.

Given all the "complete x mastery" gates in the story, I see no reason not to have a "kill mouth of mordemoth(dragon stand meta event)" gate on second last step of story or whatever is needed. This way the personal story could also give some lore about it and make it even more epic.

I mean this vine is freaking HUGE, but considering how much damaged mordremoth has been able to do around tyria (his giant vines being able to reach maps very far away, not the minion invations unlike zhaitan), i think the actual mordremoth should be even more colossal than any other elder dragon (except bubbles i am sure he should be the biggest). what do ya think WP? i like how they made the MOM very much like a chinese ancient dragon...instead of the 4 legged winged dragons we are so used to seeing everywhere.

Yes this is an epic map! I like it so much, today is my first time roiling with the bosses but before the final boss the game was crash and I were not able to taxi in the event server. So sad!

The closest I got was the the end, but the map didn't properly organize to keep those two things on the sides of each boss spawner down, so the bosses kept respawning and being invincible. That was once. Every other time I go to the map it's empty and no one is doing anything, heck I find all the maps have quieted down quite a bit, unless the mega server tech is shooting me to empty maps... Which wouldn't surprise me because the megaserver programming is terrible.

As much as I really love HoT and GW 1 & 2 in general, the content of the expansion was not enough. When I think of expansions, I expected Anet would bring something similar to what GW 1 expansions had (Nighftall, Factions, etc) . I really expected more maps other than three new ones, one meta event and a very short story. Sure there is gliding and masteries, but I'd still feel pretty empty after filling all of it (masteries) and doing a rinse and repeat when doing meta/normal events. What I'd love to see is that Anet would bring Cantha back in the picture. Seeing a new continent in GW2 would be amazing. Just my opinion though!

this is mordremoth as confirmed by later expansions too. but modremoth body (the mouth) is not his only form, in the story you fought the mind form of him (story wise at the same time as the pact assault on his body, Canach: we should strike now as he is distracted with the outside [or so])

I only played first 2 maps so far lol, I got to story end, didn't beat final boss though. With halloween here and all these daily fractals and having fun getting Tyria fractal masteries and legendary masteries legit way, have been pressed for time here :D So watching your vid is my first experience of this map really lol. WP the meta in Dragons Stand is only easy if people know what they are doing. I tried it 3 times and failed every time. Most people don't understand the last part of killing the pods. Got so frustrated did not even try it again.

+Ernesto Nunez basicly you open up lfg, and advertise your group as "(insert meta event name here) taxi join and leave" people will join your group, join your map, leave the party. Then more people will join, untill map is full. It's surprising to me how many people don't understand about taxiing ppl into a map, more people should know it will improve things for everyone spread the word about how to taxi guys :D

For everyone who has not finished the story yet .. Dont! had sooo many bugs and it was just frustrating! just stall the story a bit till everything is fixxed .. think i did the last boss 8 times and 7 times i failed because of bugs

running in circles in the pre-final event, is just stupid. dividing you zerg into 3 groups is much easier, (mobs won't scale that much, that way) but the run in circle like sheep, following the comm. tag mindlesly is what we get in GW I guess, pretty sad tbh :( And 3/4 maps in Hot keep crashig, they really need to fix those issues....

Tbh the snowman event you referenced isn't that immersive since the Grawl keep falling for the same trick. Also, I had no idea dragon's stand's meta even existed before I beat the personal story. I just went through the story and enjoyed it, and tbh I figured people were a bit salty about other things. For instance that they brought back illusions of your mentor, the characters that weren't that well made in the beginning. On my first attempt at Dragon's stand I crashed during the boss fight, and I've heard since then that it may be because of graphics settings. I was pretty upset about that, but at least I got most of the reward. Also, I really believe it's possibly bad design that made me sit on a single island and do fuck all because I can't do leyline gliding yet. I hope everyone else and I were just wrong about that one.

+Windikite Doesnt have to do anything with graphic settings here. The crashes happened to me every single time.

this is mordemoth, but mordremoth tries to acend and become more then just this body, he want to become the whole djungle by using the power of the ley lines thats why you kill his mind in the story, because that is the one thing he cant just regrow like his body.

For the most part, surprisingly, I've actually been annoyed by HoT. I'm a completionist, and I like getting map completion as I explore, but gating some things behind masteries or events just annoys me intensely. Hero points sure, I can understand gating those a bit and it makes sense, and maybe Vistas, but blocking off regions of the map and POIs and waypoints.... I just get very frustrated. It hasn't made me want to keep playing, and has more made me want to stop. But I'm odd like that I suppose.

Hey WP What are the suggested requirements for HOT on a pc/laptop to be playing the game without any lag or delay? im no that botherd about graphycs as much as the actual game play! I play GW2 on my Windows8 Fujitsu laptop, and ocasionaly the pvp and WvW are just awfully to play because i cant really play if im always delayed on 1-2sec in a fight?! Suggest what would be a good upgrade but not that fancy, im am a medical student in Uni. I neither have that much time and money :DDD Cheers Vlad

+Neo Genesis Gaming For the story to make the most sense, I think it's best if you do Dragon's Stand BEFORE you start either Bitter Harvest or Hearts and Mind in the personal story. Actually after reading +Wubdor 's comment below, you can do it two ways really. I think the Dragon's Stand fight was canonically made to be done by NPCs and the Pact Army, not the player character. As such, both Hearts and Mind should take part at the same time as Dragon's Stand. It will be up to you as to which order you do it, but I think either way is fine.

Dragon's Stand is great... until you get to the final boss, and the game just moves a third of your map onto a different map... then it does it again. A known bug, apparently. Nonetheless, I was pretty furious.

+Storn Just play, do the meta events, it'll come naturally. Use food and utility buff for bonus xp on kills, use any XP boosters you may have around. etc

Does WP uses the 50% Boosts? 1000000 XP is 2 days of working.

+Storn I have eased off the boosts heavily in recent days, but I've always had a celebration booster on. That and an XP booster (you can get easily from the laurel merchant) with any old food and utility is more than enough.
