As much as I really liked Abaddon in GW1, I kind of hope he won't become relevant until we reach Elona or at least the Crystal Desert. While he likely won't personally make a return, there could still be much we could learn from the old god of secrets about the elder dragons and the most likely place to find that information would either be around Elona or in his old realm. (though that might still be accessible through the old door of komalie, in case we get another map on the fire island chain)

My only problem with Abb in Elona, is that I feel we only really got to see him there because Orr wasn't accessible in GW1. Seeing more of him in Tyria would be really cool, considering we got to see a Forgotten Temple to him in the Personal Story when we went to Orr, and the statue of him in the Priory library. Also when we saw the Eternal Alchemy, the map of it is very similar to the Realm of Torment map from GW1, which has always made me suspicious when we first saw it in LSS2. And the raids tend to hint at what is to come, the first one showing off the White Mantle more, and Lazuras' ritual pod thingy. Now this raid had a creepy demon (very Realm of Anguish) and he even sends you to a creepy place (very Realm of Anguish). I would rather Elona deal with Palawa Joko. But I'd be okay with not getting Abbaddon and getting maybe Realm of Torment at Fire Islands, or finding out who this impostor Laz is. To me, it has to be someone old, since they seem to know a lot about him to impersonate him, and know a lot about Murssat history in general. Only person I can think of was the Necro Livia, since she is a big fan character, and she knows a lot about Bloodstones and that seems to be a big thing going on right now

DeLana is the end boss of Caudecus Manor dungeon (story mode). She is the one we find attacking Queen Jennah when the late is using an arcane shield to protect herself (even though she's a mesmer, not an elementalist :P). The ascended acessory you get from CM collection is name after her ("DeLana's Coinpurse"). Great vid, WP! And the better part was you reading Lady Wi junior's letter. lol

i think the ambush was against the player character. caudecus tipped E off about the ambush (missing parents story step one). thus prooving the worth of his as an informant. the other part of the tipoff of the white mantels locatiom was probably what followed and led to the death of confessor ethel-> caudecus became confessor

Caudecus' tiped of E about the player character beeing assissinated by White Mantle to gain his trust. It's obvious that Caudecus' tried to get the previous Confesser killed by Shrining Blades. He probably tried to make E think that with the previous Confessor's death, the White Mantle would be in dissaray or completly destroyed. Instead Caudecus' took over and hid in the shadows.

My theory is that E was writing to Caudecus's wife. In the living world instance, he says that Demmi betrayed him, just like her "backstabbing mother." What if the backstabbing he's referring to was her tipping off E about Confessor Esthel? It would explain why the letter was in the manor, and how Caudecus found out about her betrayal.

35:30 If the letters were dynamically changing, it would be much more difficult to find the last 1 or 2 you are missing. For instance, you see you don't have letter 3 - at the moment you know exactly where that letter should be; if they were dynamic you would have to go through every single letter location until you find the one you haven't picked up.

I think Caudecus sent anonymously this message to E to orchestrate Esthel's death. He knew that WM was going to try to assassinate the player, and warned E to win his trust. E sent the Shining blade to help the player, and to kill Esthel. Then Caudecus had only to take her place, and nobody suspected him. The official version is : "Shining blade killed WM confessor, not Caudecus.". It's brilliant.

OR, what if Caudecus sent in a suicide squad to try and assassinate the PC, which would then prompt E to orchestrate the Shining Blade into killing Esthel? That sounds a lot more like the scheming puppet master that Caudecus is.

I love this. As someone who, returning to Guild Wars 2, started as a Human, I really got into the story lines and just Human Politics overall and just Caudecus in general. Finding all of this information out is amazing and closes up so many loopholes for me and so much more.

Regarding E -- I was always under the assumption that Caudecus wanted to leverage E's resources. Possibly gain his/her trust with information about removing his competitor, to possibly put him in position to feed disinformation later -- or possibly join the informant network entirely? The main reason I don't think it was an interception is because it's specifically worded to be a new informant, ie., someone E doesn't trust. Someone who's looking to gain something themselves...

I've played this story last week. Looking back to how we, as the player character, joined the order of whispers and getting promoted quickly after to "lightbringer", is not a good seal of quality for the initiation process. Hell we even killed the last ministry guard tracking Demmi down right before the entrance.

What's also interesting is that this patch confirms that every single path of the personal story is canon. Another really important takeaway from this patch is that Justicar Bauer was aware that Lazarus was a fake as he helped Caudecus sabotage the resurrection. And Bauer ultimately lead the ritual to empower Lazarus with the exploding bloodstone anyway. It seems like once the Fake Lazarus came into the picture, Bauer ultimately switched from a Caudecus loyalist to a Lazarus loyalist. What does that say about Lazarus's real identity? You made a mistake though. E isn't talking about Ethel's assassination. E is being informed about the White Mantle's assassination attempt on YOU and is informed of who the Confessor is.

It felt as though they didn't really understand the bloodstone so I wouldn't be surprised if he went through with the ceremony for the sole purpose of appearances and expected to go at the end "You see?! NOTHING! Your gods are false now follow Caudecus, our true savior!" (in a more grandiose manner of course) or maybe intended to use the bloodstone to empower himself as even Caudecus fell to devouring bloodstone. The explosion - given their lack of care for how it was acting beforehand and going so far as to execute anyone who tried to raise concerns about it - might very well have been an oversight on their part. However...I am admittedly very intrigued to find out who IS in Lazarus' body (or combined with/influencing him), and if it turns out to be Bauer then not only will I be remembering your cool speculation, but also curious to find out his reasons for this! Maybe there'll even be more journal pieces or letters to discover (something I love them for using more and more to fill in some of the time gaps and get a better understanding for some of the plotting of the characters and what they've been doing as we fought Zhaitan and Mordremoth)

Sunari I don't mean to imply Bauer is Lazarus. But whoever Lazarus is, he was able convince Bauer to perform the ritual. We know from the Bloodstone Fen journals that Bauer deliberately kept the other people involved in the ritual in the dark, but that doesn't mean he didn't know what he was doing.

papabungle there was developer confirmation just after launch that confirmed that all possible paths of the personal story are cannon, as the early ones are referenced from much later on in Orr the original concept was that any one play-through would only give players a slice of the entire story of the assault on zhaitan and to understand the true breadth of the story a player would want to see it from as many perspectives as possible. It is debatable whether or not they pulled it off, but the info from head of the snake isn't any new confirmation of how to treat the launch story it just closes a lot of open ended, but very strongly hinted at story plots. To speak about Lazarus, Bauer is either a burnt shadow on a wall under the bloodstone, or is the impersonator himself, the picture of who was there is laid out pretty clear in the BSF journals.

From Bauer's journal that at first I thought was referring to caudecus but it seems not since caudecus arrived after? The bloodstone exploded. then after that in valis's journal: "Justiciar Bauer is ordering me down into a rickety mine shaft that he had dug for a reason he won't tell me, to oversee a ritual he won't explain to me, and to accomplish a goal he won't state" So who is really the mantle's "supreme leader"? If it is not caudecus? Probably the person posing as Lazarus, but hmmm not to many clues are there.

I think the journals in the LS confirm our need for actual In game bestiaries and whatnot that we could collect info about our races, classes, branched or past story that was not settled and supplements for the main story..These journals could make me give an extra thousand ish hours alone of game time and replayability

Funny that Caudecus's idea was to create problems and a unified enemy that Kryta needed a stronger leader to defeat, and really he accomplished his goal, Jennah's power has been cemented and has removed dozens of her most powerful opponents from power. He wanted to create an enemy and be the hero, but happened to be on the wrong side of the equation in the end.

Thank you so much for doing these reviews. I had completely missed these letters, and they are incredibly necessary to appreciating the original 2012 story. It's a shame they're kind of hidden, but so appreciated. It's exciting to see that the writers are seemingly finally coming to remember the story they wrote in 2012. I would love it if they continued some small reference to the "Dead Parents" human storyline. I've always wondered who my parents were as members of the Shining Blade and how/why they were killed and who buried them. Finding a letter something like "We raided the home of a Shining Blade lieutenant and killed him and his wife in front of their newborn child (the PC)" would give me goosebumps.

So ... after reading all those letters again and especially the one about Lazarus' aspect-artifacts ... There's one artifact we all know of that went missing during LS S2 ... and with "Head of the Snake" burying our doubts of Jennah being just an illusion, maybe we'll see it play out differently - with a different purpose: as the artifact containing Lazarus' evil part. Would be quite ironic, because of the antagonistic relationship between White Mantle and Krytan royalty.

I think the way they ordered the letters randomly makes sense, because it is as if you were walking around finding pieces of information and they obviously won't be in order. Plus the way they put the author of the letter at the end is just formatting so it looks like a proper letter, as people don't write their names at the start but at the end of the letter

These letters were the highlight of the patch for me. Seeing Anet put in so much attention to detail in regards to previous storylines is really sublime. especially when looking back on them a few years ago. I don't know what happened between HoT and LS3 but it seems their storytelling ability skyrocketed leaps and bounds ahead of what it previously was.

I think E works with the Whispers, if they aren't a part of it themselves, so to me Demmi sending this letter and then running to the Whispers afterwards makes sense. She sends the letter, it checks out, she says she has more info, then the Whispers campaign gets her to E.

the player character had to survive a assassination attempt, where the shining blade showed up very conveniently at the right time. So E was tipped off about an assassination attempt on the hero of shaemore which led to an investigation that ends in Ethels death. Caudecus becomes confessor. Worked out like a charm for him.

Actually, I don't think Caudecus had anything to do with the Street Rat story branch. I didn't see any mention of Two-Blade Pete, the robbery of the apothecary or the poisoning of the Grenth's Spoke well in his correspondences. Also, concerning the Enemies of my Enemy letter, the assassination they're referring to is when the White Mantle try to assassinate the Human PC on the queen's doorstep in the missing parents story line. The tip off is pretty much the reason why those two shining blade npcs rush in and help fight off the assassins, which sets into motion the chain of events that lead to the death of Confessor Esthel, whom Caudecus considered an enemy because she was in the camp of wanting to revive and continue worship of the Mursaat. By sending that anonymous letter, Caudecus played E and the ensuring events paved the way for him to assume leadership of the White Mantle.

Not directly, but we know bandits have ties to White Mantle as well as corrupt Ministry Guards (from commoner option in creation, who are also under Caudecus' thumb). Those bandits probably had direct or indirect orders to cause problems in DR/the neighboring townships to cause further problems to add to Caudecus' propaganda campaign, as well as weakening the Seraph (bot physically and in the eyes of the people)

Two-Blade Pete MIGHT have been in on it, since he apparently took over the gang after the Street-Rat Human PC left, but then it strikes me as odd that he was never specifically mentioned in the correspondence when Anet went to so much effort to explicitly tie Caudecus in with all these other events in the other branches. Either they forgot, or the street-rat gang were (mostly) their own group of disaffected people. Riot Alice went full blown Anarchist after her father died in the Great Collapse and the Krytan government weren't forthcoming on why it happened, and Doc Howler tried to be a legit apothecary but lost her license after mistakenly poisoning a beagle.

What if E's allegiances have changed over time? back at the time, he saw the importance of the white mantle's work as far as holding the world from fall into chaos (unseen ones protecting humanity?). He may have been working with Xera's side of the white mantle back at the time. Since the split and the death of Xera, he is very against the Caudecus' faction but maybe even continuing on with Xera's work.

You menstioned a spy on the Order of Whispers, I checked the story - An Apple a Day and the only present people in the chamber when Demmi is delivered to the order are the current Preceptors Doern Velazquez, Halvora Snapdagger and Valenze , Riel Darkwater and Tybalt. It's interesting that Demmi is talking to Valenze, the order's primary research analyst, but also studies illusions and other mesmer magic. Would you take a look at this? "inquisitor" to me implies a sort of theological police that don't necessarily "outrank" others (i.e. doesn't give or receive orders) but has large organizational powers to question the spiritual orthodoxy of other members. So it's not so much "oh shit, the inquisitor is coming, I'm gonna have to do whatever they say" as it is "oh shit, the inquisitor is coming, I hope they're not going to try me before a tribunal for heresy about my teachings about Lazarus."

So, I'm finding Bauer hard to put my finger on. On the one hand, his letters to Caudecus seem pretty clear that he doesn't care much about Rebirth, particularly in the way he seems to sell out Xera and Matthias. But then on the other, in his journal, it seems more that he's actually more loyal to Rebirth than to Caudecus, to the point of deceiving the Confessor. So what's his angle? Is he just a huge suck-up who told Caudecus what he wanted to hear to get on his good side because he could tell he was going places, even though Bauer himself had different goals? Is he actually much more like Caudecus, concerned more with personal power than ideologies? Or is he just a tired administrator who has no time for nonsense and sides with whoever seems to be making his job easier at the time?

An interesting perspective, with certain merits. Probably the greatest advantage for that thought is the timetable: since this particular first memoir is written 75 Zephyr--which is apparently the first season on the calendar--then if Bauer is referring to Caudecus, the PC must have killed Esthel just a short time earlier in the season, as the events of that storyline occur in 1325. That doesn't leave a lot of space for that transition of leadership to have occurred in that year. A decent amount, still, but not much. Whereas if the PC killed Esthel sometime *after* 75 Zephyr, then it's pretty clear to whom Bauer would have been referring. The reason I prefer the interpretation that he's deceiving Caudecus (beyond just my persistent hope that Lazarus is actually the real Lazarus) is because of the language in the memoir. - "Knowing the confessor's priorities, I emphasized the potential weaponization of the bloodstone's power and mentioned Operation Rebirth as only a secondary objective. As such, if Bauer is aiming to please Confessor Esthel, it would seem odd of him not to emphasize their efforts toward said Operation. Why would Bauer want to push the expenditure of resources on weaponry when weaponry isn't the more important thing--resurrecting their god is! On the contrary, Caudecus doesn't care about Lazarus. He cares more about practical applications that can advance his own power. So if Bauer wants Operation Rebirth to continue being allocated resources, he's got to present it as a side note. "Here, Confessor Beetlestone, we want to make you great weapons to help you get what you want! Oh, and by the way, we're just doing a little bit of this Lazarus thing, too, to appease those zealots, you know. No big deal." Under this interpretation, the whole Bloodstone weaponry thing is partially just a cover-up so that they can continue getting the resources they need for Rebirth, whereas if Esthel--a zealot like Xera--was confessor at the time, she would have at least shifted the priorities to Rebirth instead, if not done away with the weapon program altogether as some kind of vain folly. You don't just mention the resurrection of your god as a "secondary objective" to your devout leader.

Okay, so I feel weird for commenting twice on one video (and a bit off-topic, to boot), but this is currently the most recent lore video, so here goes: Today I was thinking about some of Hablion's lines from Prophecies, and atop the bloodstone he says, "I am the Scythe, the bringer of Salvation, and I shall harvest the souls of the Unbelievers, For their stench will linger *until the false gods have been cast from this world."* Now, initially, and pretty much since then, I had thought he was referring to the Five (known) gods as "the false gods," being of course that he's White Mantle, and the White Mantle believe the Unseen Ones are true gods. But then I got to thinking, now we actually know so much more of the story than when I first played through Prophecies. Now we know that Hablion was there with Saul when they defeated the Charr; he was there when the Mursaat betrayed them, slaughterd most of them, and abducted Saul; he was there when their tyrannical rule over the souls of the Krytans was established. So I got to thinking, is he *really* referring to the Five Gods being cast from the world? Or is he more familiar with the Flameseeker Prophecies than that? Is he in his invocation subtly (so as not to tip off his fellow White Mantle devotees) cursing the Mursaat and calling *them* false gods that will be cast from the world? "Their stench will linger," their souls tied to the bloodstone and the soul batteries; the Chosen will continue to be sacrificed and stored at the Door of Komalie, until the Prophecies are fulfilled and the Mursaat are destroyed, then their "stench," their souls, can once again disperse whence they came. Any thoughts on this idea?

Captain DeLana was the final boss in CM story mode. You can see her also in disquise before the party broke when the golem attacked. Also... the order of whispers..... i feel so disapointed dissapointed on how they did become. after all these years, i feel like they just are not as much interesting as they used to be. Also in Vallete's answer (the first one) the charr plot can be a well designed lie to pursuade her to join as she would never join the mantle if actualyknowing of the plan to kill the queen and taking kryta over.

i would have to disagree with you wp about the criticism of the order you get the letters. i think the way theyre doing it is perfect. the location where you get a letter should mean something. even though at first it may seem like they placed a letter in a random room i would like to see some meaning behind the location and the state of the situation. maybe include a description of condition of the letter

+WoodenPotatoes im glad that as a content creator you are able to have fun and share with the community all the best about this game. i love seeing new vids from you in my subscriptions page. however there is a lot of frustration in the community over in the WvW side of things, and while you dont do very much in WvW its sad to see the devs ignore it. they have claimed to give it more love but there is so much going wrong that many players are jumping ship. as a player who has quit playing the last few months and for the foreseeable future. would you ever be interested in having a state of the game discussion on your channel to at least give people a heads up of how other players are losing faith in ArenaNet. so many of us are being ignored not only on the official forums but even by the devs visiting reddit. just a thought... cheers
