thats because they make the best use of the DirectX shaders.. ever notice the Legendary 2handers like Eternity & Sunrise? its got its own material map built into the footsteps and weapon swings that "inverse" with the current sky & clouds.. if it were day time it would be night time when you swing the sword, vice versa

+StonePeters Both games are great. I like both of them, but because I prefer GW2 because of the dynamic combat, graphics and XP amount per level. And the games may be similar, but there are some differences. They great games though. The only thing I hate is that they ruined the game after Cata, MoP and WoD. I am 13 years old and I didn't play Vanilla, BC and WOTLK, but I've played on private servers because I don't wanna pay for a game that I don't like. If they make TBC server I'll start paying 15 bucks per month but because I still don't make money by myself I can't make my parents pay 15$ or here in my country ,Bulgaria, 30 lv. But the private TBC server Hellground is really good. There are some bugs, cause it's a private server, but it's still the best TBC server. So I like both WoW and GW2 although, as I said, I prefer GW2. And l I was really said when Nostalrius was shut down. R.I.P Nostalrius 2015 - 2016.

IMHO, The biggest advantage to GW2 is the auto-leveling when you move to lower level areas, which freaking rocks. Your damage and health scale to the area, but you keep your improved skill set, and get experience and loot of your highest level. This makes it so the world stays large and the lower areas of the world don't become obsolete.

And if you play with friends you can actually do quest with them without the need of creating a entire new character!

I think I want to try out Guild Wars 2. I have played WoW for 8 years, loved it and still do, but I am jumping off the money train. WoW is a sinking ship and I know alot of people won't come back to it until it is F2P. The community is toxic as hell anyway.

The game is far from "being made better". They no longer release subscription numbers because it has plummeted over WoD and that Garrison idea. They had a patch they called "content" that just contained a selfie camera. This game has gone so far downhill and easy that leveling is no longer rewarding because you can pull so many mobs and survive (assuming you can play your class correctly) It's been 10 years and somehow they can't manage to balance classes correctly whether that be in PvP or in PvE- looking at you poor Ret paladins always at the bottom with new expansions for dps :(. This game is squeezing money out of people at this point because the people who still play are simply addicted. It's apart of their lifestyle and speaking from experience, it is hard to stop. Even when the game you loved so much went to shit.

i love Guild Wars 2 . no bullshits and overpowered and underpowered classes. u can avoid damage by moving while fighting. u can actually evade attacks. u don't have to worry anymore about putting evasion stats on ur char coz all u have to do is to keep moving and pay attention. skills are just few but all useful and no bullshit non logical non useful takes forever cooldown skills. all classes has heal skills and can revive dead players. the game is "realistic", not like those dark heavy fantasy, mystical-y, asian-y looking graphics and sceneries of other MMOs. I play as a thief, the class has no skills cooldown but uses a so called initiative instead, as long u as u have initiative, u can use ur skills again and again, initiative bar regens every two seconds. (thief might be squishy, but u have the advantage no cooldown on ur skills and speed over the other classes). I use double daggers instead of the famous double pistols or pistol and dagger. double daggers gives me fast and evasive attacks, which helps me survive. and yes ur skills changes based on what weapon u equip. applies on all classes. its a balanced game, class wise, "realistic", few skills but all useful, one time purchase, real money paid items are just for aesthetics uses, no "buy this armor/weapon set and be invincible".

Draemic Dreams ikr. Both are very good games, and i would play GW2 if i had the money and a strong computer. But subscription fees are not a problem if you play at private server. Just download it, install and play for free. That is WoW is better in my opinion. I don't say your opinion sucks or anything tho.

i've played wow from vanilla, right through to just before the panda BS. and i've played GW2 since day 1, and i can confidently say that there is very little that wow does better (the small scale pvp mode is currently better in WoW) i'm not saying WoW sucks, it was great and should be remembered as the best MMO of its time, but its 2014, its like comparing the PS2 with the PS4. (except a PS2 that costs you *ALOT* more money than its PS4 competition.)

Caiti Ok then. For Guild Wars 2, I do definitely like its combat system (although I do enjoy WoW's). I also do like its world where there are many key areas in each "level" (as in, the area you are in). I especially do like the "quest system" as you could do multiple things to fill up the heart quest (although I am ok with WoW's, I just prefer GW2's). I also like the fact when you die, you can just click on any waypoint, as opposed to spawning at the nearest graveyard. Lastly, I do like the extra things you must do to get 100% map completion (like waypoints and viewpoints). I also really love the fact that when your in an area where the lvl is lower than yours, your level is scaled down so the area can still be challenging (I REALLY hope that future and current MMO's implement this feature, as it adds replay value). Lastly, I like the fact that it lacks a subscription fee (not that I have trouble with WoW's, as my family likes playing the game and thus my parents take care of the money) For World of Warcraft, I do actually like the vast open lands (you know, the areas where some call "empty"), as I liked the scenery and felt like I was traversing through a huge world (do not get me wrong, I do like GW2's map structure, it is just that I enjoy WoW's a bit more). It's the kind of world (that hopefully involves mounts) that I like traversing through in games like Red Dead Redemption and The Legend of Zelda. I also like the fact I could ride mounts (yes, I know GW2 has waypoints), as I find riding a(n) animal/beast (preferably the classic horse) fun. I also do like the art style of the game. I also like the fact that there is environment PvP, as I do like fighting players in an endless variety of areas to fight in (that and also it gives me a feel of encountering deadly wanderers that could attack at any moment). Lastly, the many open buildings like inns, houses, and castles give me a feel of being in a large world where you could pretend to live a life there (like sleep in a inn or party in a bar). I am aware you can do these things in GW2, I just for some reason felt more immersed in WoW. I know that having more points with WoW may seem that I prefer it to GW2. I don't. I like them both equally for different reasons. I respect those who disagree with my reasons, as each person has his/her own tastes. All I can wish for is respect for mine.

Cade Thumann I really can't disagree with you on any of that, although I do like GW2's maps better because they feel a little more vertical (ie Jumping Puzzles, underwater areas etc) and I kinda miss all the extra objectives that GW2 has when I'm playing WoW. BUT GW2's zones kind of all look similar until you get into the zones they added with the Living Story like Dry Top or Southsun Cove. In WoW, there's way more variety and that's really cool to me since every zone is completely different from the last. I've been playing WoW since 2010 and I still haven't seen every zone honestly. I have to agree with you on everything else. :P

People who want to grind and take things more seriously than their own good health will always stick to their guns, it's a lot more complicated than you think. Elitist minds will want the status that comes with their pride, which is usually sugar coated with items that take roughly several months to grind. WoW people will look at Guild Wars as if it's a private server of theirs, Lol. And 9 times out of 10, people interested in private servers are already in disagreement with the same stuff you are.

I do believe the review remains biased towards WoW. The original Guild Wars was released in 2005 so WoW cannot excuse itself due to age. The graphics are much more superb in GW2. I played both games. I would also challenge any WoW player to pvp or wvw in GW2. My best buddy raged quit because he was losing most of his fights after I provided him with some top gear and coached him. He was not able to react quickly enough in the fights to dodge at crucial points or use defensive abilities in crucial moments. In GW2 you dont have 10 skills since you also have special abilities such as F1, F2 or F3 plus also combination with your weapon attacks. The review fails to elaborate that in GW2 every class is able to heal even if you are damage/DPS focused. The review failed to really explain and show WvW. It is an eternal battle such as they named one of the four maps on which you battle (one for each servers then on general) in which 3 servers fight each other to retain control or capture control of supply camps, towers, keeps and castle. You are able to build siege to defend or attack. People group up in large zergs following commanders into battle against other players. Each maps allow 90 players of each server. I have fought in battles of 90 vs 90. I cant lie with those numbers lag remains present but the battles are really amusing. He also failed to review customization of looks. GW2 has hundreds of dye colors. You can transmute all armors as long as they are the same armor type. The dyes remain accessible once purchased versus being one time application. He did not review traveling which is must different. In WoW you have mounts which are cool. It is one of the few aspects that I miss from WoW. In GW2 you do not require mounts since teleportation to hundreds of waypoints (15-20 per map) remains accessible for instant travels. No more waiting on an eagle for 15 minutes or flying for 5 minutes. Anyways, I liked both games but the constant grind for gear overshadowed any gaming fun from WoW. I will still keep my eye out for future release by them in the hopes they improve. GW2 also can improve on a lot of aspects but in my opinion remains the best MMO for the moment but with new releases appearing all the time that could change especially with ESO on the horizon. Also WoW players owe GW2 a lot since most of the changes by WoW in the recent year or two were in direct response to GW2.

Yup. you have skill levels from 1 to 500 except jeweler and chef which cap at 400. Even when you decide to switch your levels aren't erased. But usually there are about 3 or 4 crafting skills that are useful to your class so most stick with them anyway.

No offense to any wow player.. But I quit wow cause of the obnoxious people in the game.. When a new player comes along if they mess up ONCE.. Their called so many names and kicked from groups.. GW2 no one is mean to anyone really.. Were a very close community. I mean were sorta forced to help each other lol with all the huge bosses coming Out of no where.. Think of it this way.. In wow if a high level player kills a low level, how many people defend and try and ressurrect them? In GW2 you die and 3 4 or 5 people come to your aid and protect u the whole battle.. TRUE STORY... I agree I never played wow but did played another mmo probably just as toxic for many years, when you play an mmo so long and kinda get addicted to it, it's sad but it sorta shapes you aswell and the person you become in it.. I went from being friendly and wanting to meet new people to always angry and judgy over randoms/newbies, I hated it, I was always angry or most of the time anyway lol but it's hard to leave something that you invest so much time in.. till I had enough of the p2w poorly balanced and toxicity from myself and the community and left.. went back to my casual love, guild wars 2 which I always praised for its gameplay and no end game retarded p2w shit that changes every 3 months, only reason I never stayed was cause I was by myself and being addicted to first mmo, but after getting PoF, the LW seasons and immerse myself in the story and making a handful of friends , I'm in love with it, people are friendly welcoming and come at your aid if asked or not, in my first claw of jormag battle I asked how to get the achievement and 2 people randomly grouped me and showed me as if they knew me it was actually confusing for a second to be treated like that, people actually answer what could be just googled but you were lazy, nobody gives a shit if you're a female cause theres plenty and they are normal human beings not teenage girls looking for free skins... ofc there must be all kinds of people but majority of community is nice and mature enough to make an amazing game even more refreshing and enjoyable like every game should be.

Dynamic quests, or events, are quests/events that happen randomly throughout the in-game world. Depending on whether or not you complete these quests or events determines how the world around you changes. An invasion force of undead can wreak havoc on a nearby town, preventing you from spawning there until you get rid of them.

Angryjoe said it best when he said the most important thing in a game is it's game play. In my personal opinion I found GW2's game play much better then WoW's. Leveling in WoW was a chore. I had nearly no fun till I got my character to 90. In GW I had fun from lvl 1-80 and I still am. I do wish they had a faction system though.

Seems like you have no idea of what GW2 is ... Every character chan choose his own story , and have different quests of it. besides, there is the Game story about the different races such as humans and charrs. You should check out everything before you even say. And I've played WoW for 5 years, and I todays when I play GW2, I believe it's much better than WoW. That's my opinion though

Muki Kuki I played WoW more than GW2 and for me, Wolrd of Warcraft have a better lore and pvping system (arenas, BGs, etc). I'm not saying that the lore or the pvp from GW2 sucks, just saying that the wow have a better one. BTW, this thing you called "your own story" doenst exist. You story is directed to one point in end and u can't change that. Choosing vigil, whispers or priory it not actually that much since in WoW too u have to choose betwwen Scryrers or Aldor (and some others that i forgot). I know, the GW2 factions have a participation in your "own" story, but like I said, in the end is the same thing for all. Guild Wars is a great game. I like it more than WoW for now. But the reaons behind it, its because WoW doenst change his enginne system. I mean, they could make a WoW 2 like guild wars did, with new engine, new classes etc. They have much potential for it. Actually the questing in WoW and Gw2 are pretty much the same, in WoW cover up the objectives that says '4/12 cookie monsters slain' and replace it with a completion bar and you've got Gw2 questing.

Difference is that GW2 is far more story driven. Dynamic (chain) events make up about 80% of all quests in GW2 and those are all heavily story based. A lot of former wow players have no idea how these work tho. They see a dynamic event to kill a certain creature, they do it and run off again without realizing the context. Or they end up missing the steps after that within the questchain. Context is what makes these interesting. All of those + the NPC conversations make this MMO the most immersive experience to date.

Gameplay wise GW2 is better. But I have to admit I absolutely adore wow's lore and environment. It's so much more authentic and I just get sucked right into it. And when I play GW2 I couldn't care less about my surroundings, I'm just playing the game for the sake of playing the game. And for a lot of people thats not such a bad thing. But the world and environment and lore is just so much more polished and authentic in wow that it just pulls me back in.

I love Guild Wars 2, and won't stop playing. I've played WoW aswell. I enjoy both games and they have there own gameplay. I think we can't compare the 2 games, because those games are user preference. Some gamers prefer WoW because of the graphics, races/classes. i have played both and think you did this comparison verry well! i enjoy GW2 more than WoW because i feel that i am progressing through levels and because i do not like backtracking! but on the other hand i think that pvp in wow is way more fun. in dungeons i was a tank during my time in wow so i had no problems joining a dungeon with the longest wait time i had was less than 10 minutes. the real advantage gw2 has over wow is that you do not have to pay every month and because of that i like guild wars way more. i think that gw2 has a higher price to enjoyment ratio!

When you buy Wow with all the expansions (appart from the new one)you will pay 20$ and get a free month of game time. 30 days of playtime where I live is 10$ so essentially for just a little bit less than 50$ (The price of GW2, taxes not included) I have the base game + 4 expansions + 3 months of game time (which is definitely enough to get to max level and is a pretty good bargain for your bucks) and If you wanted to, you could buy the latest expansion for 60$ and get another extra month plus the content. So for around 100$ you get the full WoW experience and 4 months, where in which you could get enough gold to get a WoW token from the auction house and get a FREE month. While GW2 might be a one time pay thing, you have to pay 50$ for the base game and then 70$ when the new expansion comes out in october so 120$ dollars. It's a matter of choice on how much money you can spend and it's also, mostly, an opinion but I think WoW has more to offer $ wise. TL;DR -> 100$ for WoW's full game and all expansions and 4-5 months depending how much gold you can farm while you level up (and in the event that you can farm 20K gold in a month WoW becomes free to play forever) 120$ for full GW2's full game (No sub fee) I LOVE both games but I feel like my dollars are best spent on WoW tbch. Again, this is my opinion, don't bash it.

+NiWO Raven in Sweden I can get gw for 23 usd + the expansion for about 45 and that's 68, which is pretty nice value. But if you buy the expansion and don't have the base game since before you get the base game as well! But still! I havn't played much WoW so I won't start anything. GW2 is like a silent vulcano atm. It could explode and be the best game ever if the dev team around it had any brains. Since launch literally almost nothing has happened except balance patches, they keep doing this "living story" shit that adds nothing at all to the game. So GW2 great game but it's potential is so much more than what it is right now. It saddens me a bit.

I found myself returning to GW2 after the WoD launch. Garrisons while a cool idea, belittle WoW to nothing more than a facebook game. You know blizzard is fucking up when they want to focus on getting a bird npc that allows you to tweet in game working before adding new content. While GW2 may not have much "end game content" it has a lot of content in general. i've played WoW for a long time, but I always find myself going back to GW2 as of late. I didn't even bother resubbing this month. WoW feels so empty these days. I prefer the pvp of GW2, only because it feels more epic. Reminds me of old Alterac Valley. And to everyone who says he's being biased, he's really not. On paper, GW2's mechanics just sound better than WoW.

I've played both WoW and GW2, while I didn't buy the Warlords of Draenor expansion I did get up to Mist of Pandaria, and lets face it, WoW is boring and the environment is just depressing and the quests are just discouraging. If you told me what I just said before I started GW2 I would've ignored you and talk about how WoW is a living story that the game itself changes as events and the main story itself progresses and how the game is just so huge and there are so many places where you can explore. And then I bought GW2, and I now weep for those who still pay Blizzard every month for that piece of shit. GW2 has it all, it encourages exploring and it's just so excising to discover some sort of secret lab or cave and loot the treasure in it, the surprise factor never ends in GW2. Every quest has multiple jobs contained in it and it's just amazing, the game is simply the best MMORPG out there regardless of what opinion you might have.

NiWO Raven Yes I did play Horde but I also tried on the Alliance side. I never had a problem with the way the landscape or the town looks in the game and I've never reached end game so I can't comment on that. But it's the process of getting to the end game, it's just not very interesting at all, the way that quests are set up and just how they are. You might get loads of good stuff when you reach maxed level but GW2 offers exactly that + the journey to end game is extremely fun and there's always something new.

Both games are good and can draw you in however they cannot be compared do to their different styles of gameplay, one has a main quest line that you do have to while the other has dynamics or WvW in which you don't have to quest at all and just level up a fun way. Graphics will never matter, I have played both WoW and Gw2 and imo its just a matter of which one your in the mood to play at the time.

Some of this info is incorrect as well. For example, the quests in GW2 are not dynamic events, the quests are the hearts on the world map that function exactly like quests, only you don't have to talk to an npc to start or finish them. Dynamic events are something entirely different and more akin to FATES in FF14 than anything else. But of course, GW2 had dynamic events long before FF14 had fates. I don't know if any other mmorpg has a similar feature to compare it to though. And the amount of exp you need to level up after leveling up does increase unless you're already level 80.

+nazra7 The exp increases but the exp gained from quests also increases .. if you're lvl 1 and yo go do a dynamic event you get like 400 exp or so .. if you're lvl 75 though, on the same area, on the same dynamic event, you get up to 16000 exp ! Leveling in gw2 is linear and the ammount time required for each lvl is roughly the same,.

***** Mate i play both games....I have 29 abbilities on my engineer. Abbilities that are used in a regular rotation. Wow classes typically have a 7-8 button rotation with 3-4 CD buttons. Rest of the abbilities are fillers. GW2 abbilities work with combofields and often have multiple uses (click it one to reflect a ranged attack, click it twice to knockback for example). So my 29 abbilities are actually closer to 50. Please show me 1 wow class with that many abbilities.

WoW combat is basically you don't focus on the combat, you just looking at the skill bars and wait for it to cooldown. WoW gameplay is focus on the abilities and less on the combat. That combat system and trinity is old school. We're almost in 2014 bro! WoW fanboys lol. Braindead game, does not require skills, all you have to remember is what the skills do and which slot you placed them and that's about it. The higher level you are, the more pro you are consider of. Gw2 pro= skills, WoW pro= Better gears, depending on classes and max level. I play none of these games but obviously gw2 is better. Almost all mmorpg is better than WoW... 15 bucks a month on such a old game is such a rip off.. It's like buying a Nintendo 64 for 200 bucks.

Smoke fire and water fields are the main combofields engi works with. Comboing in to waterfields can heal everyone within a short range from low hp back to 100%. Blast in to fire fields leads to might stacking where each blast increases the dmg of everyone within range by about 6% (depending on prof). Might stacks last 20 secs so you can string a series together increasing your dmg done by up to 50% quite easily (esp if combined with battle sigil). Very little weight you said?

Now ecpansion outlands is back? WOW has no story line - fill zone with zombies. Kill 10...collect 10. I hung in there for a LONG time but could not take the angry players any more.
