It's good and definitely worth a try for the price point. My only gripes with it are the "transmog" system is a minor ding every time you use it, even if you do get drip fed transmutation stones, and the role-play elements you see in WoW and FFXIV simply don't exist. There isn't even a proper /sit last I checked.

You got a new sub! When I realised that you would stay with GW. As a HUGE fan of WOW, played since WOTLK. Made a lot of friends in my country (Portugal) and a cross the seas... improved my english and share fantastic moments within Azeroth, I cant keep with the grind anymore. Im 29 years old now... I've a wife, I'm planning to have a bunch of kids to play mario kart with them... I do like to play some other games... like to play Dungeon and Dragons, watch some netflix with my wife and grab a beer with my friends... World of warcarft doesn't allow me to do that and still enjoy new content... I found GW recently and the only thing I'm missing is some friends to play... but I'm enjoying! Live World got me in a second... being in a world that is alive... that is not full of people stading in a major city clicking in a button to queue to a dungeon.. what's the point fo playing a MMO if it is to stand in a place killing some "Bosses"?! Isnt the idea to explore a world? To find new places so we can have a break from our real world? Guild Wars isnt perfect... I wish they could make a graphic revamp like Blizzard made with WOW, I think that would bring more players. The interface isn't appelative, but isn't a pain neither... I really understand why you pick GW over WOW... and I made that same decision some months ago too... Enjoy the game and Big hug Moopliss!

@@moopliss Winter is spent in FFXIV. Got to let the MSQ pile up for some cozy holiday binging. Yes, tell me a story while I'm burritod by the fire, and then we will world tour the raids. Spring and Summer go to WoW, just really feels right bumming it on a druid when everything is so alive and beautiful. Nostalgia of raidlogging on summer break, and patenting future nostalgia by doing Glory runs with the guild. A KSH here or there doesn't hurt either. Fall is all about ESO and getting stupid on the necromancer during the Halloween event. Ever since TSW went offline, there isn't an mmo that scratches that spooky atmospheric itch. Definitely the season to crawl around the imperial sewers looking for someone to munch on. There are too many good things from all of them to devote to just one, but I've fallen into a comfortable routine. Feels great to resub every time.

I saw this coming a mile away. As soon as you started talking about subs and wanting a life outside of gaming, I knew you’d pick GW and that’s not a bad decision. I’ve been following you since your sm discovery of WoW and probably even further back and I got to say, you’ve made a wise decision. The amount of time and money you’d have to spend on WoW is staggering compared to GW and it’s not a bad idea to go for the free option on most cases. I play WoW because I have friends that play the game and I’m content knowing I got a solid group that will be playing the game for many years to come. Good luck on your gaming journey and we’ll see you in the next expansion of WoW ^^

I joined gw2 a few days ago and I really love that I can play whenever I want without the feeling of "you payed 13 euros you need to play only this game".. I love to play other games too, cozy planet zoo or subnautica again or some overwatch. With gw2 I can join whenever I want and leave for some time to play other games and thats a great feeling of freedom :) and the community is so much better... no young men that ask sexual questions, no toxic people when you dont know the mechanics, it just feels good. Hope this feeling holds on and I will have a lot of fun time in the game.. the only thing I dont like is, its very expensive at the beginning, all the living story, the bank upgrades, the bag slots etc... but as now I plan to farm some gold and buy it that way :) sorry for the makers of gw2 but I dont have that much money to spend, if so I would because I really like what they did ^^

Yes it can be expensive to buy all on start but fortunately you don't need to do it. With expansions I will not help you, You must wait for special offer. With living world however you don't need to buy it all at once. If I remember correctly one chapter cost 200 gems which you can buy for around 70 gold. If you have 80lvl character I recommend to do daily fractals. On T4 its best gold farm, its fun and it could help you equip your character in full ascended gear for almoust free. Good luck and have fun in Tyria ;)
@blekmetal8140
@blekmetal8140 Жыл бұрын
Yeah the living world access especially on steam accounts is annoying. But , you can explore these areas by teleporting to a player who plays in these areas. From my personal view, I bought the first two expansions, I loved the game. I realised that in terms of getting the best gear you have to spend the same amount of time with other guys who had other expansions(horizontal progression) which is really good. I bought the rest of the expansions because of the story and the extra freedom it gives you (end of dragons third specialization, soto weapon mastery) and I strongly believe that spending 100 euros ONLY for every content that was created on a 10 years game totally worths it. Now in terms of farming, you have to check the event timers and find groups and the gold will come easier and with much more fun in my opinion by doing meta events. On the other hand, you can play WvW,PvP (which can be really difficult as a first timer) and get fast gold too.

I am a WoW player who have converted to GW2 and don´t plan on going back. For all the reasons you mention, but also for the ultimate reason: Account shared progress! I just did the entire collection for the Skyscale and it feels SO GOOD to know I never have to do it again since it applies to all my characters now. Same with the masteries. Every new character I make already knows how to glide, or autopickup loot. I can´t believe I spent so many years replaying the same content for multiple alts every expansion when games like this existed instead.

I used to be a big Guild Wars players during the original, I would say from 2005 to 2012 when GW2 came out. I played a fair share of GW2 at that point but found myself flocking to World of Warcraft later on. Currently I'm very heavy on WoW, where I have to keep playing in order to not fall behind. However I still have Guild Wars 2 on the side where I have no pressure whatsoever. I can login at any time and my gear will still be relevant, I can just continue the game at my pace and wont have to pay for a subscription to do so.

When it comes to MMOs, I feel like its one of those things you just get a ~feeling~ about. Is there something interesting on the horizon on the MMO of your choice? Yeah, that's probably the one you're playing. For me, its currently WoW Classic Wrath, after playing retail WoW for almost 20 years I just now jumped over. Its all a process, and whatever you find fun is important. Enjoy the games you want, and I'm glad you aren't feeling pressured to continue playing a game for the attention it garners vs. the actual enjoyment you get out of it. Have a great day :)

I feel you on the open world aspect, but there were technical reasons for doing it this way back in the day (ressource constraints), and today there are logistical reasons, too. gw2 does not have a server system in the classical sense anymore, but opted for a megaserver system before its first expansion dropped. yes, you join a server when starting the game on a new account, but the only place it really matters anymore is World vs World, the big scale, week-long PvP matches, between 3 servers at a time. In all other areas (PvE / Arena PvP) you are playing on a megaserver, with douzens to hundrets of copies of the maps getting opened and closed on the fly, depending on the current player population on these maps. People like to farm world bosses, and those are on a timed rotation (with quite a bunch overlapping each time), resulting in several thousand of players leaving and entering those maps constantly. But since all of them sharing the same space would overload even high end PC's (and fry a single server responsible for claculating all their actions), maps are capped at a couple hundret of players at a time, but the number of maps running simultaneously on individual servers within the megaserver system, are set to a limit way beyond the current player population, allowing everyone entry and keeping the game stable at all times. And once they are done with the boss and teleport to other areas, those map copies close again. You get a 60 minute timer until a map force-closes, but also get offered a temporary loot chance bonus, if you allow the game to teleport you into one of the remaining copies, spawning in the same location, but with possible changed event states on the map. The advantage of having everyone on the same megaserver while in Arena PvP and PvE are obvious. All share the same market place, all people que up in the same LFG tool for dungeons / fractals / raids / strike missions, and all PvP players que up in the same matchmaking system too, drastically reducing waiting time for PvP and high end PvE. All maps, including the beginner ones, are well populated to all times, worldbosses or not. And you always meet new people in the mayor cities (crafting / vendor / service hubs / and usually just a space to idle and chat). The whole community is playing within the same world, interacting more or less directly with each other. And some dials in the background also ensure that you get ported onto the same maps with people on your friendlist, in your guild or in your current party, if possible. In fact, putting people on your block list also get considered when the megaserver decides which copy of a map you end up in, so if there are some people you really don't want to run into, chances for that happening are actively reduced. Add on top ressource nodes being instanced for each player individually, so no competition on farming, as well as you getting full xp by just damaging a mob which is already in combat with others, regardless who kills it, and it all creates an environment where you actually enjoy to run into random people playing in your area, doing events together, reviving / supporting each other in combat, and enjoy your time in the game. Gw2 has one of the least toxic communities I came across, and a big part of it is how it encourages cooperation via positive reinforcement across all its systems. And by fracturing its open world with loading screens, it actually brought its players closer together.

Played WoW from 2006-2009, and the endgame was exhausting. Finally quit because I just couldn't spend 3 hours in a raid to get a "chance" at one piece of gear I wanted. Having played GW2 from 2014 til now, it is much more relaxing. It may not have the crazy endgame grind that some players want since it's ultimately a much more forgiving and welcoming experience. You can, however, farm the "legendary" gear with adjustable stats so you never need to gear farm again, and can focus on learning and mastering new mechanics. Getting full legenary gear will take a large amount of money and some considerable playtime, so you still have a grind of sorts. Add on to that no sub fees, a welcoming community, lots of story(and content) to cover, and a horizontal progression system, you can go at your own pace and never get "left behind". 9 years in and never looked back. edit: I forgot that the servers are rarely if ever down for maintenance. I never really appreciated it until someone in the community mentioned it.

Playing world of warcraft for upwards of 15 years, and then going into guild wars 2 will give you whiplash, there is so much to unlearn. You can be in multiple guilds at the same time, gear doesn't matter all that much in PvP, there is no gear treadmill so your best-in-slot is your best in slot forever, and crafting is one of the only ways to get the most optimal gear. Raids are options, dungeons are optional, PvP is optional, open world content is a suggestion. I bounced OFF of gw2 the first five times I tried playing it because nothing made sense based on my understanding of WoW, it is the exact opposite of everything WoW is. The game, despite having an unlimited amount of things to do with its thousands of achievements, feels like it was designed for you to dip in and out whenever you want. WoW demands you come back at least once a week, GW2 doesn't care when you come back. Everything will be exactly the same since the last time you checked - save for expansions. It is absolutely dizzying going from WoW to GW2, I wouldn't blame anyone for getting confused bc you're trying to apply WoW logic to a horizontal casual MMO with no pressure and no timegates.

Totally understandable my dude. I've been playing WoW since I was in high school when it came out. I've always loved it. I remember when Guild Wars 1 came out and I LOVED it, it was hugely different and I actually liked it more. Guild Wars 2 doesn't tackle combat in a way that WoW offers, at least to me. FF14 and SWTOR are the only other 2 MMOs that really match WoW and best it is some ways, but WoW has such good combat and wide change. Azeroth will always be here my dude. I agree 100% with what you said about WoW and it's old raids. I wish you could always go back to how difficult old raids were. Right now you have to wait until time walking weeks and it's annoying, you make a solid point.

The combat in GW2 is so much better it's not even close...the speed and reaction time are super high ceiling...also, there are a few different professions or specializations that have access to far more skills than the basic 2 weapon set rotation, so you can easily have 25-35 unique spells to utilize for those that really want to feel like they're playing a piano in game. It definitely depends on what you want from a game, and there are times I wish the questing system was a little more direct and clear like wow. But for world exploration, high level combat, and a nearly endless quantity of masteries and collections to achieve, GW2 just has way more content in that area. And there are some maps in GW2 that blow away anything WoW has ever attempted to create. The verticality and scope of some maps in this game are mind boggling. There's a nostalgic part of me that may go back and grind some classic at some point, but for my main every day game, it's GW2 hands down.

I quit WoW a few months ago, mostly because I stopped playing shortly after Dragonflight came out (I was very sick and couldn't bring myself to sit at my computer for longer than 15 minutes at a time) and I felt like I was behind on everything when I came back... Only to find that it only looked like I was behind, in reality, I barely missed anything. The new features where just too shiny and distracting. Since then, I ended up hanging up my hat with WoW about three months ago now. Right now, I simply don't have the mindset for it. It feels more about tiny progression verses a grand adventure like it used to. Right now, I bounce between Guild Wars 2 and SWTOR when I feel the itch to play an MMORPG, and I must say, I'm really enjoying playing these games that I missed out over the years, because I was in my WoW Only Blind Mode.

A lot of reasons seem to be the time invested into your first MMO. Funny enough, GW2 is the perfect side-MMO to dip in and out of, especially with their new yearly expansion model. Its horizontal style makes everything evergreen and its content can be mostly soloed. Its F2P nature means it heavily incentivizes daily players and long-term grinds, which just isn't my personal tastes. Still, a wonderful game to hop in and enjoy the story and world.

Guild Wars 2 is the drop in, drop out, time respecting MMO. Most MMO with the traditional subscription are a FOMO experience(fear of missing out). That's why most of the grind was paying the dues, either by dailes or attendance, or getting that one thing to auction off. All this can be fun its own way, but you eventually hit the wall every few months. You end up wanting to raid, but the further you end you get into, alt into, the more maintence of playing has to be done. All other games and recreation suffer, and life as well . All business do want business with you, and I get it, as all things need money to make the world go round. I haven't put a whole lot of business into Guild Wars 2, but nowadays, I do want to support them, so I will be using the $15 sub as a support now. But that's the beauty, I can be away and it'll still be there. The very team that built Guild Wars 2, made many good systems, good systems to follow even when those developers left. With SotO, I see it as a battle pass, but also I see some sort of grind system and daily system....but I don't feel the compulsion to do so, because I have everything sort of needs fulfilled(aside from getting ascended or legendary gear lol). The greeds or wanting of something(like the new Griffon skin) is a good addition, but I'm happy what I have- plus I can color my armor pretty good. Quality of life is sorely missing. For the MMO games I dabble with aside from GW2, Return of Reckoning, the private server of Warhammer Online 2008, though a bit crusty nor perfect, wanted to see that dark fantasy game world again.

DUDE as a ex-WoW player of MANY YEARS, moving to Guild Wars 2 was the best choice I ever made in my entire life. Not only are the characters wonderful, the progression respecting your time and effort, but ALSO saving a lot of money? Once I buy it, I OWN IT!! its an amazing game, my friend has played it for many years and at first I was skeptical but wow. It is my favorite MMO of all time.

This is exactly the thing, your hard grinded gear can be thrown into the dustbin for a random green gear drop, in GW2 it’s really worth your time, and creating a Legendary is quiet a grind but it’s useable on all your characters, sort of heirloom on WoW

i also have played wow since BoA but one thing that always annoyed me is that often gear grind on this game. Gw2 am i also playing since the Beta and i even played Guild Wars since the age of 6 where Factions came out i still play Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 today and it keeps having fun and my attention. Sure that everyone say Guild Wars is a dead game because there isn't new content there but let me tell you this i haven't even reach the Max Titel rank in this game and that's still my Goal plus i also have friends there where we play together and even make challenges out of that. Guild Wars 2 is the game that keeps getting new stuff. i enjoy the PvE also the PvP and WvW and it still makes fun to play alone or together with friends or with other players. it is always nice to come back home after a hard work day and have does two games to relaxe a bit and escape the Real world and discover other places or being in one place and enjoy the peaceful music.

One thing you failed to mention is that GW2 is one of the few MMOs that allow you to convert in game currency into their in game store currency to buy those items. So you can farm game gold to purchase items from their gem stote for essentially free (just take some time but gold is easy to farm).
@Nylereia
@Nylereia Жыл бұрын
You can also do this in World of Warcraft. You can pay your subscription and buy Blizzard games by converting in-game currency to the Blizzard currency. You can play all of their games essentially using World of Warcraft gold if you had enough of it.

But I don't need a subscription to do it in GW2. I only pay upfront once per expansion.

Gw2. Two main reasons. Community in gw2 is friendly and non-toxic. I guess the reason for that is the foundation of the game is built around helping each other and not competing for loot. Secondly, the combat system is in my opinion far better…like miles better cause it’s about skill…not gear.

I really enjoyed playing an Evoker and going the DF, after all I'm a BC Baby (quite literally, I was only 9 when I started playing WoW lol) but my biggest problem always came down to the actual leveling process. It's fun for the first time and maybe the second with a different class-- but long-term the grind is a pain when the world isn't updated in nearly 80% of the available content to the point that many models have gear issues where they have a cube instead of a chest piece. While I played GW1 and GW2, my game is ESO. It's one of the few MMO's I really enjoy, though I'll probably end up taking a break when the in-game shop eventually breaks my will to keep playing again (it's funny seeing people talk about Microsoft saving WoW and all I can think is that they are going to need to get used to the in-game shop being bloated to high hell.) I also saw the GW2 released Cantha, my favorite zone/expansion from GW1 when I went into DF, so who knows... maybe I'll grab Lu Ten He, my lovely Canthan necromancer that I made in GW2 and push through the content I had left in Heart of Thorns to see the Kaineng City and the Jade Sea again.

Guild Wars 2 I got into after hitting a wall with SWTOR. I've tried playing WoW but the subscription pricing is absolute cancer. I still don't forgive them for what they did with the story. When playing Guild Wars 2 I expected it to play like WoW. I was surprised that it actually felt somewhat responsive. I didn't feel like I was just standing there and waiting to press a button like in SWTOR. The fact that it's a 1 time buy for the expansions and that you can have a pretty good amount of freedom over how your character is set up is quite fun. I have a Guardian that's set up for AOE buffs to allies but can easily go into melee if needed

You missed the most important part of GW2. The story line is better than any game I’ve played before. Any new player should start their story line immediately and continue on through the seasonal story. You can level learn your class and experience an amazing story alll at the same time. You won’t get that from any other mmo out there and to top it off you get to experience a ton of the story for free.

Guild Wars 2 is Buy to Play game with best Free Trial on the mmorpg market which works both as your main game and secondary game as there is no subscription. For examples you can play current WoW or FFXIV Expansion and while you wait the next expansion you can enjoy GW2 on the side 👍 Or when you run out of things to do in GW2 you can just go play New World or Path of Exile while you wait next content patch to hit. Ofc the history shows that ANet has been slow at adding new content but they have been slowly ramping it up. Now GW2 is expecting 5th expansion next year and three quarterly updates which add new content for everyone. During this 4th expansion we should get total of three(?) Strikes and one Fractal as new content for those who seek Group-Content I'm sorry if you play PvP or WvW as I don't know the duck those guys get 🙃 beside balance patches, maybe.

I love that I can stop playing for years at a time and come back like nothing happened. I wasn't thrilled with all of the newer content, but path of fire and season 4 are very worthwhile, the cantha one isn't terrible, haven't tried secrets yet. I'm on a break again, but will probably first come back for some casual map completion, just flying about on the sky scale for a bit now and then... maybe I need to finally unlock the griffin, seems fun.

I have dabbled in many MMOs. 600 hrs in ESO, like 1k hrs in FFXIV, easily 1-2k hrs in Lotro, 500 hrs in Destiny 2, I don't know how many hrs in WoW, hundreds of hrs in DDO, thousands of hrs in GW1 but I always come back to GW2 where I am around 3-4k hrs now. It's just the best MMO in my opinion. It's the best value MMO that respects your time spent. Horizontal Progression is the way to go IMO, No Gear Tread-mill, No Sub fee making me feel like I need to play, so many innovative and original ideas like the Gliding and Mount System, and of course the best combat system IMO, though ESO felt pretty good too ngl. Lotro will also always have a special place in my heart but it really is mostly about the IP and world and not so much about the combat and gameplay with that one.

Played WoW for a month hated the subscription model to just be able to continue playing the game since majority of MMORPGs nowadays offer free to play, but the feel that WoW gave me had me asking for more until a fellow streamer and a friend of mine introduced me to GW2. My take on this is that you can have all the features WoW gives even the in game premium store and get things you want to have for in-game currency conversion at the cost of just getting the expansion (any expansion), to be able to use the trading post and sending mails with attachments to friends, and the best part is that you can use ingame currency to purchase items from the premium store (e.g. Gold > Gems vice versa). I am loving the game as I play through it since even at max level you can still die to a level 15 mob/field boss as the game features a down scale on a players level to make it challenging for people who purchased the expansion and are new to the game. The story is definitely engaging, you make choices that affect the entirety of your gameplay and there is even a jump puzzle that you have to complete to get achievements aside from the other unlockables you get from exploring the map. The devs listen to the community which is a good fact.

Retail just isn't a well rounded experience. It feels like you have to rush rush rush and if you haven't played for several months the game throws so much new shit at you that you just don't want to go through. Like I get that you can spend some time and get the hang of the new systems and all but.. damn I just literally can't be bothered when I can just log into Classic and the game is very streamlined and there aren't 100 different systems that I have to learn. So fuck retail and by extension, fuck modern gaming. Because these devs just can't make a simple, good and addincting game anymore.

Just picked GW2 up about a month ago and I've been having a blast. I've played 3 different classes with multiple specs so far and I legit can't figure out which one I like more because they're all so fun. I will admit, it is kinda annoying not being able to just WRECK things in past expansions like you do with most MMO's but I don't think it's a bad thing. Just something to get used too.

always think its hard to really objectively choose between these games. Most people who have tried both strictly prefer one or the other. As a wow player I got very bored of guild wars 2 once I was only really grinding to make my character look cooler. The content wasn't as challenging to me as world of warcraft was and most WoW players love when new gear comes out because there's something new to grind for.

Well there is something i just cant stand in wow, the combat system.... i mean since i played wow back in 2005 already felt like it was bad but being a warcraft3 fan got really into azeroth with my friends so the combat wasnt a deal breaker. A couple of years later prob after finishing burning crusade i was totally burned out so decided to test a ton of mmorpgs and i was kinda surprised that every single one of them had almost the same trash combat wow had with the only exception being guild wars 1 which was a tiny bit of a step up with the insane dual class system and the elite skills had you hunting specific bosses to learn them, was a blown of fresh air back then yet not enough for me. Anyway i returned one last wow expansion just to kill Arthas(wotlk) and felt like that was it, i wasnt playing wow ever again(kinda lost hope in the genre at all, i logged into gw1 from time to time when new expansiones came out but wasnt really active) so i went mostly action multiplayer games such as battlefield 2 until gw2 beta came out in 2011 aaaaand that was finally it, a mmorpg with a good enough combat system, suddenly i found myself fully engaged with a mmorpg again, and it wasnt the lore, it wasnt the instanced content, it wasnt the community, it wasnt the content, it wasnt anything else but the combat system. BTW a few years ago i failed to come back to wow for legion (i kinda wanted to kill sargeras, kill jaden, etc) just couldnt stand it, the combat stills bad like really really bad

I'm playing Guild Wars 2 since pre-release (25.08.2012) only with less breaks because of education, job or illness. Additional to your video I want to clear out, that GW2 isn't as time eating as other MMOs. It depents how your own playstyle is. The new expansion "Secrets of the Obscure" alias SotO as example is not that huge as the other three expansions. So there are many players who are rushing through the content before they start to complain there was to less stuff to do. But me, usually working 40h + arround 12h commuting per week, playing the game more slowly. In the less time i have left next to my other bothering stuff like tidying up my flat and so on. I'm enjoying the game, doing the stuff I can do in this time and my personal speed. Sometimes I'm just standing in one of the cities and have fun of chatting with others. Or I'm crafting stuff whole day long to sell it at the tradingpost at the end of the day. You see, I'm far away from a tryhard, but I still have a bunch of legendary weapons, one heavy-set of legendary armor and other qol-stuff (you don't really need, but it's nice to have). I really can recommend to buy this package of the core game (f2p has limitations) + the first two expansions for the 30 € you can see @19:19. Between the expansions there is some "filler" content named living world. Since the game has a transfer system which allows you to change gold to gems, which is the currency for the credit shop of the game, I higly recommend to farm this gold to save a lot of money for this living world content. The credit shop gives you next to this content upgrades a lot of cosmetic stuff. GW2 hasn't really a problem with pay to win. Only when your playstyle includes the so called "fashion wars" hehe :D When there are any other questions, don't hesitate and ask me anytime here or ingame. The name is Ladykira.8651.

I played WoW since just before TBC, and through MoP, but less and less, until classic where I dived straight back in. I quit WoW after starting GW2, and while I miss WoW immensely, I really missed WoW already before quitting it, because I missed the old days. There's not much WoW does better than GW2 for me, except that one thing that you really get comfortable with an area, like Westfall or Duskwood, and it sets a certain mood, which is difficult in GW2 because you jump from area to area too easily. However, this getting to know an area came mostly from having to run back and forth for quests a hundred times and it took ages, which simply does not fly anymore, nobody can be arsed to do that. Some of the last times I logged into classic I logged out again. It's simply too cumbersome. And the way they have solved that problem is to make things ridiculously easy or absurdly illogical.
