Guild Wars Beginners Guide in 2024 | Prophecies | Episode 01 | Prophecies & Beginnings

Hey there everyone!
Thank you so much for coming this far and checking out my first video in a new beginners guide to Guild Wars Prophecies in 2024!
Guild Wars Prophecies is the first campaign in the Guild Wars series, a popular online multiplayer role-playing game (MMORPG) developed by ArenaNet. The Prophecies campaign was released in 2005 and served as the starting point for players entering the world of Tyria.
The story of Guild Wars Prophecies revolves around a prophecy that foretells the rise of an ancient and powerful evil known as the Elder Dragon named Zhaitan. The prophecy predicts that Tyria will be plunged into a time of great turmoil, and heroes from various races must come together to face this impending threat.
Players begin their journey in the continent of Tyria, where the human kingdom of Ascalon is celebrating the annual festival called the "Day of the Titans." However, this joyous occasion takes a dark turn when the Charr, a fierce and warlike race, launch a devastating invasion on Ascalon. The Charr, led by their Shaman caste, seek to conquer the human lands and claim them as their own.
In this episode we take our very first steps into Ascalon and explore the world as we know it before the looming threat! I decided to start off with a Warrior and also took the Ranger as my second profession and we had a wonderful time exploring the area and getting used to the controls and the way the game plays!
Next week's episode we will dive into leaving the starting zone and experience what will be known as the Searing of Ascalon!

So as you might've guessed my name is Des and welcome! I've been Streaming for a little over 5 Years now which is just wild to me! I've been playing video games all my life and it all started for me on a Gameboy Console with games like Super Mario Land, Pokemon Blue, Tetris, and The Legend of Zelda so you can imagine I am a bit of a Nintendo fan!

Greetings. Came across this tonight to listen to while playing GW. Been playing since Beta. Still love it. Still working towards GWAM. There is so much to do in this game. Just one thing though, Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall are all stand-alone campaigns, so it is not one full storyline. Each "country" within the world has its own storyline and quests. The advantage to starting in Nightfall is that you get Heroes, like your own personal henchmen that you can level up, and update armour and weapons. There is also an expansion The Eye of the North which draws you back into the conflict roughly fifteen to twenty years after the destruction of Ascalon in Prophecies. All very good games and stories. And the graphics are still beautiful 20 years later. Can I suggest that you amke sure you upgrade to the Game of the Year edition (in store), this will give you access to the summoning stone (reusable) for the Fire Imp and the bonus weapons. Wave, also an Aussie.

Started in 05. Original chracter will turn 19 at the end of this month. Stopped in 07, returned in 2023. Been playing off and on since. This game is still fun and has aged fairly well.

Nice, been playing thins since for a few years now. Yes, there is a stat sheet on pets, The dire Rollerbeetle is what you would want for max DPS. Easier to tame the bear if you get someone to help you as the bear chases them while you cast charm animal, but it has a useless skill now so people don't use it anymore. After pre next step upgrade the armor or get to Droknar's Forge for Max armor (aka Drok run). Also if you played long ago you don't need a "gate monkey" anymore to farm charr bags etc. You can open the gate yourself now.

YUP, with Warrior I went as a second profession Monk and I didn't like it. I thought the same thing Warrior & Monk would be a templar. But I found you are using smite spells versus healing. I wonder can you change your second profession if you don't like it? I am thinking Necro or Ranger for second profession. Last time I played this game was when Nightfall first came out its been a very long time.

For sure man! My understanding is once you commit to that second profession there is no changing it unfortunately so I imagine it would mean re-rolling the character! Necro ranger sounds like it could be really fun man! Since I imagine you will have your ranger pet and then potentially necro minions aswell so you would have a small army basically :D I'm interested to see how you go!

In Prophecies, when you become 'Ascended' by completing the three missions in the Crystal Desert, then Augury Rock, you can either do the scattered missions to change profession, or just go to the Profession Changer NPC in The Great Temple of Balthazar. It costs 500 gold to first learn a new 2nd profession, but you can learn them all. Once you do, you can change 2nd profession anytime when you're in an outpost.

@@rarausa405 Thanks for the info raruusa. But my character began with Nightfall, and I am trying to take him to Prophecies. BUT I think the video said you have to do the HUNTED mission? I am now looking for where I can get this quest at.

@@DevlogBill Hunted! mission is part of the main storyline of Nightfall, and you'll get it when you get to Yolon Haven (after Consulate Docks mission). Hunted! is required for 2nd profession changes, but isn't required for travel to other campaigns. As far as getting to Prophecies, in Kamaden you can get a mission from Deras Tenderlin (Terror in Tyria), that will take you to Lion's Arch, where you can then pick up the Prophecies storyline. He may not offer the mission until your character is a certain level, maybe lvl 12? (not sure about that) You won't get the very beginning story, except the outpost Missions, as you have to actually start a Prophecies character to experience Pre-Searing and Old Ascalon area missions. You can travel the maps from Lion's arch to the previous areas, and then be able to at least have the outposts & areas. Oh, also in Kamaden is a mission to get your character to Kaineng City (Factions campaign), as well as a mission to get to Eye of the North expansion. It's the same with Factions as Prophecies, in that you start in Kaineng and pick up the campaign story at that point, so your character won't have the beginning Factions story. Again, you can travel to Shing Jea Island to get the outposts & areas and do the outpost missions. By the way, GW has a great Wiki with tons of information. wiki.guildwars.com
