Ben, do you think you'll do another Arena draft soon? Just started watching your videos and I absolutely love them, but your Arena draft that I saw was superb. It was excellent to see you talk about cards without a time limit while drafting, and I also just really like how Arena looks. Either way I'll definitely be watching more, keep up the amazing work!

Something I’ve seen a lot of pros do lately is pick Beacon Bolt highly/over good on-color playables and then decide against splashing it. Not sure if it’s wrong, but it’s definitely interesting.

Great video and great job drafting by Ben, as usual. The one thing I respectfully disagree with is the decision not to keep the Watcher game one. Ben had surveil 2 in hand (via Informant) to search for land. The 2nd Watcher would have REALLY helped in the race. I might be wrong every time, but I think in that set-up, I keep the 2nd Watcher, use my surveil triggers to find land, and figure in 100 games like that against a likely creature heavy deck, I'm better off most of them.

Nice plays from your opponent! Playing conservative with attacks and then going all in G1 in the correct moment. Also playing around the discard bounce in game three to save his 4/4 and forfeiting to make tokens... really interesting decisions.

Another great video. I think BenS drafted his seat really well and ended up with the best deck on offer. The opponent had a great deck and drew very hot game 1 and game 3 - and still if not for the stupid guildmage going to value town I think Ben would have won. GGs and thanks again for the great content.

Not really hot draws, trading guildmage and binning second Watcher were bad plays
@euanmacleod37386 жыл бұрын
Found the same team of difficult to handle creatures both games - particularly the guildmage and the cavalier - and both utterly unconnected to whether or not we trade our guildmage or bin the second watcher. They were actively strong draws out of a deck with no card selection or filtering. Binning the second watcher when we can currently cast neither makes sense to me, and while we don't yet know the game is going to stretch long and we aren't going to end up drawing much of our removal, I think trading the guildmage is fine. We're the control deck with the stronger late game.
@RW777777776 жыл бұрын
Binning the second Watcher was bad because he had Strands removal in hand, which would answer the first Rosemane or Siege Wurm pressure while you spin your wheels for land. The Guildmage isn't as bad because you don't want your opp dunking huge Convoke guys on you, and his ice ability isn't the best against team Vigilance.
@euanmacleod37386 жыл бұрын
I think it's marginal. Our next card could be a nonland - our next three cards could be nonlands - and I would prefer making it more likely I can cast what's in my hand, hit the five mana threshold that lets me bin lands from then on looking for action, and play the watcher I already have on time. I see the appeal in keeping the watcher, but I think it's more risk than it's worth when we're already facing pressure. Very much agree about the guildmage. We also already know our mana is going to be taxed to capacity on better stuff for the foreseeable future.

Overall, I think BenS did a fantastic job navigating the draft. It was a very weird one because his seat clearly was hinting Boros; however, there was nothing in the packs early for him to get himself into Boros. As a deck, I believe it was a good one overall; however, this format appears to be very matchup oriented. I've had many Dimir decks or even Dimir splash x decks which get annihilated by the same deck over and over (Selesnya). Veil of Shade has been a great card for me and one of the few undervalued cards in this format. This format appears to be very tempo played and a card that is an early drop that can cause headaches later is one I would recommend playing or picking mid-late if you see it. Is it a 1st or 2nd pick for me? No, but definitely one I'd consider 3-5 if the pack has strong signals.
@alexmohr10726 жыл бұрын
Just saying, veiled shade has been one of the best overall preforming commons in black for myself. It's a early drop that can help stabilize the board and scales very well into the late game.

Game 3 I would have bounced the 4/4 during combat instead of after, being on 10 life instead of 6 seems really helpful in surviving to the late game.

Seems lose to pick the Boros card when you still have Dimir Guildgate and Golgari Locket to chose from at 4:14
@robertorama82845 жыл бұрын
I think that Ben did the right move there. He didn't have anything strong on Dimir at that point yet (the first picks were good but not bombs), and Sumhome Starwart (a great card) on 4th could be a signal that people are not picking Boros, so it's fine to take a chance there. Also, not a big lose, the locket is ok, to mediocre to bad depending on the deck and the guildgate it's just an utility, picking it as a 4th pick first pack would be overcommitting to Dimir.

24:33 pretty late for direct current and ornery goblin too. Weird draft.
@Aquificae6 жыл бұрын
I think if he returned his 1/4 3-drop instead of the opponent's token, he could have cast it again, grown the spybug into a 3/3 (making it a good blocker that would eat the extra token, so no extra damage), and getting rid of the excess lands for the following turns. Maybe it was too late, but he would be able to eat 2 creatures a turn, while his opponent would make 2. And that's if he didn't draw any good cards with the help of the surveil 2.
@Gresdak6 жыл бұрын
No clue why in game three you went and discarded dazzling lights to radical idea when you could’ve cast it to set up your next draw and if you still bricked then you can cast radical idea to help dig further. I think looking at 3 cards instead of one is just more efficient albeit not mana efficient.

Could have bounced your own Whisper Agent around 45:00. That would have guaranteed you the surveil triggers you needed to find lethal.
@giles45656 жыл бұрын
Good spot, unfortunately would no longer have lethal because you can't swing with both flyers if you don't kill their token (they have lethal on the way back)

in game 1 wouldnt have attacked with the watcher. wouldnt have gone for the kill with the surveil. both horrible plays in mind. doesnt matter how well they are explained. happy to see that those mistakes are punished. not normal anymore in those new formats where your mistakes almost dont matter anymore. hmm, well the other dude punted by playing out his last land so who knows. in game 3 not bouncing before damage was too fancy . at least pondering about this was important.

If people care enough to look at the timestamp to see what round they lost in, they can damn well hover over the 1:30:00 mark to see the “extended to not spoil” screen, and the people like me who see a 2h video and think “great, 2h of quality content” are going to be disappointed by this tactic. Please stop misleading your audience and do away with the hour long end card that does not do what you want it to.
