The weird stuff that was in the US version of Revival (Akuma freeze glitch and wrong quotes) wasn't in the JP version. I was around for all the HD Remix wtf-ery and one of the big things was that people were weirded out about Akuma being playable online since he was so broken in ST. I remember they made his stun value lower so he gets dizzy quicker, got rid of his "unblockable" hurricane kick (which became a dipswitch), and changed the trajectory of his air fireball. Another thing was that it was fairly widespread that HDR was based on the Dreamcast version of ST, which is still considered the best version today. Like you noted, the reactions for the game were all over the place. HDR can be played physically on 360; in fact, the collection it's in, Capcom Digital Collection, just celebrated its tenth anniversary. It also features Final Fight Double Impact, which is much better on 360 since it doesn't have DRM like the PS3 version. Ultra SF2 recently faced a huge price spike since it was delisted from the eShop last year. It went up to between $75-100. Capcom put it back up late last year with an instant 50% discount for about a week or so. Since then, the price on the physical version has come down. If I had to guess, Capcom either had to renew the license to use the Udon artwork, OR it may have had to do with the entire SF artbook (SF Supremacy) that was in there.
@GuileWinQuote2 жыл бұрын
Someone just told me the European version of Revival is fixed too! Sirlin says starting with the Dreamcast port was the most optimal base, so I'll just take his word on it. @@GuileWinQuote They used the Dreamcast port because it was an existing C (programming language) rewrite of ST, so vastly more practical to use for doing a version where you're going to make so many changes to the game. If you used the actual original game... well you would basically have to either rewrite it (which the Dreamcast version already was that), or romhack the original and run it on CPS2 emulation. And considering the "upgraded" graphics and music, doing it as a true romhack would be impossible (you could put some kind of interpreter layer on top of the original at best).

I'd love to see / hear an in-depth analysis of the console ports of _Super Turbo_ from you, as well as the console _Street Fighter: The Movie_ game - which was basically _Super Turbo_ with two new characters and photographic… uh… graphics.

Maybe one day I'll have to tackle the ports ... It's a daunting task 😅 SFtM:RBoF will definitely get a video some day. I love the arcade and home port!
@JoLiKMC2 жыл бұрын
Well, I specifically mention the home version because it's, as I said, just a fancy, "slightly different" version of _Super Turbo._ The arcade version, however… I feel like the designers _knew_ they couldn't top _Super Turbo_ or _Mortal Kombat,_ so they just made it as ridiculously fun and broken as possible. And I freaking *adore* it for that reason. ♥

You can circumvent the Turbo Revival Akuma fight bug by setting the Round count to anything else than the standard best-of-three. For whatever reason.
@VOAN2 жыл бұрын
Or just lose one match then Akuma will never appear ever again. The dude will only appear if you kept on winning before facing M. Bison, become a loser once and he'll never bother you. If you don't want to lose just get the Japanese version and you can fight him. Oddly enough you fight him at M. Bison's stage and not at his own stage, the memorable cutscene where he would appeared to kill M. Bison with the Shun Goku Satsu from the original Super Turbo was also cut even though Akuma in this game could fully perform the Shun Goku Satsu during a match.

Great video. I gotta be honest though. I like HSF2 and USF2 more than ST.

Ultra street fighter 2 the new challengers was actually surprisingly enough what got me into fighting games. California was on fire and I had to go visit a friend to escape a fire in my area, and all I had was my switch. So I had a couple brews and spent all week playing arcade and online street fighter on my switch. And I pretty much fell in love with fighting games since then.

@ClassicBentobox2 жыл бұрын
@@dnkakusei I’ve dabbled a little bit in everything. I’d like to get into mvc2 and cvs2 more but I don’t have much time to find a competitive scene. As far as fightcade goes tho, my mainstays are Third Strike and Kof98. Those are the ones I’m actually good at. Even if I want to branch out into everything (guilty gear xx accent core, usf4, Tekken 7), you can only really seriously play a couple games at a time or you start forgetting important matchup knowledge.

Hey GWQ! I loved this video, especially talkin about USF2. The thing is, back then when the game was released, Capcom said they would release it on other platforms if it was received well. But since it wasn't in some parts, it just stayed a switch exclusive. It does suck, but maybe HD remix will come back in some kind of other Capcom Collection someday.

@naejimba2 жыл бұрын
I love the mention of New Legacy! It is a hidden gem that is constantly being updated based on feedback, and provides subtle balance changes that the ST community approves of. It is also the ONLY version of SF2 that has a version of Akuma that is ACTUALLY balanced! I really feel with more exposure, Capcom picking it up, and it being placed on Arcade cabs in Japan this could easily become the definitive version of SF2. If you haven't checked it out it is worth your time.

Ah yes.... HD Remix. So many years of joy. My gateway into Tournaments. :) If I recall correctly, HDR was one of the first games to get Microsoft to increase the Size limit of the XBLA games. My memory is rusty, but I think the XBLA Size limit Cap before for XBLA games was like 150MB (Around 50MB when XBLA first started off!). HDR came in at about 367MB. So Microsoft gave Capcom some exceptions for HDR's download size. Sirlin wanted to add the Classic Backgrounds but Capcom said no. I can only guess it was due to HDR already blowing past the size limit Microsoft allowed. A nice little Guiness World Record sort of deal is HDR was the first fighting game on consoles to add easy one button mapping for the Punch and Kick buttons on Arcade Sticks/Controllers.

Because Sony And Microsoft didn't want to pay for the budget of the large space of the game at the time so CAPCAM cheap on the art design I'm more disappointed they never drew the car crashing stage for HD Remix so today we can enjoy it in Ultra

I would also like to add that the weird gba sf2 has a bunch of cut content that it promised on the back of it's box. As a kid I got this game and thought it sounded awesome because the box says it has a tag mode and team battle and shit but it just didn't. It's the only game I've ever bought that just blatantly lied about what content it has. I never see people mention this but it's always stuck with me because I beat everything in the game hoping I would unlock said modes and yeah there's just nothing there.
@David3158422 жыл бұрын
The actual game name Violent Ken appeared was called SVC Chaos: SNK vs Capcom and his character in Ultra is a mixture of that character plus adding the whole Bison brainwashing, though yeah that was clearly inspired by the movie. But yeah I found the information in this video to be very accurate. This June, Hyper would see a re-release as part of Capcom's Fighting Collection on all major platforms, but no HD Remix or Ultra, but maybe one day we might see those along with Revival on some kind of compilation in the future. It is an interesting idea to make a compilation of sequels to a sequel that was intended to be the ultimate version of that game. Knowing Capcom they 'may' see this as an opportunity to make more money from their beloved Street Fighter series, who knows?

I still think one of the major reasons why HD Remix didn’t last too long was because of the art style.
@KyokujiFGC2 жыл бұрын
Adding a neutral grab tech to USF2 actually screws up the balance a ton because zoners were generally already the strongest characters (huge chip, lack of tripguard and fast proj recovery), and now you don't even have a scary grab threat when you finally manage to get in. Makes a match-up like O. Honda or Cammy vs Ryu/Deejay even worse than before.

HD Remix is the best version of SF2. My only criticism is, as a Chun main, I hate that she didn't get any real buffs, arguably just nerfs. USF2 was close to being good, but playing as Chun is even harder there.

Violent Ken's first appearance in a game was Street Fighter Zero 3, well kinda I guess you could call him a prototype of violent Ken as he doesn't have the visual design we now associate with the character established with SVC Chaos from the movie.

Yeap the artworks are very nice, the only disappointment is that there are not post-match artworks where it show the defeated opponent like in the older games. Those were always hilarious to see and were heavily missing from Super Turbo Revival. Would be nice to see what Akuma look like in his defeated state.

The real reasons why Capcom has so many editions to SFII other than the fact that they rushed through development: There are no extra options and hidden codes at the player select of Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, such as "Unlock All Bosses" and "Select Game Speed".

tbh, STRev and STHDRemix are kinda neat when played with their extra modes, not as good as it's original, but are close enough to ST but are a whole new thing when doing their unique things rather than just... More ST edit : btw, favorite video, so fun looking at these extra versions of the best cult classics :)
