@@StevenWatsonMusic As a young guitarist in first year music, they handed me a lute and put me in an early music ensemble playing Machaut with a racket! I was pretty much lost!

Depends on your age. I remember when this album first dropped during the black plague. It was worse than COVID believe it or not.

Thanks Tate. There's still over 400 years of written music before Machaut!

Nicely done, Steven! I also appreciate the simplicity of two voices. There’s a Gaspar Sanz piece which is originally for two voices that Werner made into three on his arrangement. I bet this would work well on the baritone ukulele too.
@StevenWatsonMusic4 ай бұрын
I'll have to look up Werner's arrangement. I am wondering about some of these very early music on uke, but it's always a challenge getting the notes to fit!
@Josh.Vanjani4 ай бұрын
@@StevenWatsonMusic Yes, you're quite right about "fitting in" the notes. What I've done with mine is to raise the octave of notes that don't fit. 99% of people already aren't familiar with the music (😂), and they don't notice there's been an alteration. I'd also recommend the original Sanz manuscript from the Spanish library, since you can read Italian tablature.

Listened previously. This is an amazing idea. So i suppose you tune de g in f# + capo 3 i see. Would you like to have a renaissance lute or are you fine like as this? Both are ok..and guitar is more easy imao. Anyway, wonderful transcriptions of our good old friend Guillaume de Machaut. I have a few cd of his music, missas, motets, monodies etc. I learned about medieval and renaisssance music at university in musicology. I didnt know there was something valuable before Bach, it was a revelation. Blabla
@StevenWatsonMusic4 ай бұрын
Very pleased you liked it, Remi! No, I used standard tuning. I've tried lutes but have never yet got on with them (I adore listening to them of course). When I first discovered music pre-Bach it was a revelation for me too! Especially pre sixteenth-century, the soundworld can feel so familiar, so direct, yet in other ways so enjoyably weird.

@StevenWatsonMusic you mean 'unfamiliar' 🤙or maybe not , it s familiar also yes
