In Too Late for Tears, I counted the times when someone was knocking on a door and I think it's somewhere around twenty times. Anyway I love Lizabeth Scott and when I lived in Amsterdam in 1967, I met her sister, a raging alcoholic who died after a night on the town.

NIGHTMARE ALLEY - . Del Toro considered this to be a standalone adaptation of Gresham's novel, as opposed to a remake of the 1947 film version starring Tyrone Power.

I hate to burst anyone's bubble, but Nightmare Alley with Tyrone Power is a great film noir and will never be bested. I think one of the differences is, the new one is straining to be great and the original was trying to attract an audience. You know I am a poet and I will tell you that when anyone tries to be great they are doomed to failure.Greatness is like, well, breathing, say. Either you breathe or you die, it's not something that you can create. Also, when authors try to be great they instead become pompous and definitely humorless. To add to this. D. H. Lawrence described his genius as a wind that blows through him; I think of it as a radio program. If the program isn't spectacular or if the wind is weak, there's nothing you an do about it. Your only choice is to accept yourself and do the best you can. Merry Xmas, Allen

@@berkeleyedit7852 I think you got it all wrong. Guillermo only does movies with passion like no other, there is no shame in loving what you do and Guillermo loves what he does. He loves making movies. The 1947 movie was very good but this movie is Superb. This movie is poetry in motion and an eye candy. You need to be open minded and watch this movie with "new eyes" and just try to enjoy it.
