I felt the pain of the character all the way through this film. One minute of wrongfully served jail time is too much. Think of the people who were wrongfully convicted and served decades in prison. Thanks to DNA technology many people are now being exonerated. My heart goes out to the people who are innocent yet are still in prison. In real life, it took Bobby a long time to rid himself of his demons. He went back to doing drugs and drinking. His marriage fell apart due to his addictions. The state of New York paid for his treatment from alcohol and drugs. He has recently come to terms with his past and seems to be on the right path. I wish him all the best. And, congratulations to Brendan Fraser for his Oscar win. He certainly deserves it.

Anybody know how Bobby's photo was even in police files when the single witness was shown it? Ah ha.... For the record, I did my research myself... " ... the photograph was retrieved from police files where it had been placed after he had been arrested on an assault charge for which he was never convicted." I'm not trying to smear Bobby, no , .. I was just curious. My niece & her boyfriend are studying law. Also the case of Anthony Ray Hinton is very very heart wrenching, because he was sooo innocent, so fully wrongly put on death row in Alabama prison for 30+ years. Because of financial poverty he wasn't able to get a decent lawyer, and the evidence was such that even a deaf mute or blind person could understand how he did not in no way do the murder that was wrongly pinned on him. His book is out called "The Sun Does Shine" and his story is painful ... 3 decades on death row absolutely innocent. Lord have mercy. 🙏🏻

As a criminologist who worked in the system, we hate to admit that these things happen, but we know they do. It only takes one mistake somewhere in the process and it snowballs from there. The bright spot is the advent of sophisticated DNA tests that have helped clear many innocent people, even though it is long after the fact. The other bright spot is that this is a very rare event, but it is tragic when an innocent person is forced to serve time for something they did not do. I thought it was a very accurate portrayal of a flawed system run by human beings, who sadly, sometimes make mistakes.

In and out of jail and prison for over 20 years . Never had dads support, but then again i was a bad person . The one thing though is one time i asked mom to bail me out for a possession charge and she did. The following day she told me she was going to pull the bail because dad told her to . I was so hurt , itsclose to teo years now that they have both passed . First mom then a couple months later dad . I miss her everyday, but i have no feelings for him . Heartbreaking. "Once!" Sadly, that is all it takes sometimes to mark our lives forever. It is better to think a thousand times before crossing the line, than to live your whole life wishing you could go back to that moment again to make the right choice this time. Whenever "just this once" crosses your mind, ask yourself why allow yourself to do something that isn't right?! And, if it is right, don't consider stopping because of what others say or think! One thing I learned in my criminal justice courses was that eye witness testimonies are not reliable as evidences in prosecutions. In this movie it showed that the only so called evidence against Bobby and maybe the other guy way the eye witness' testimony. They never stated they had the weapons with finger prints or the victims DNA. To this day many innocent people are in prison based on faulty eye witnesses testimonies. Glad Bobby's parents kept going to get him free. I just love true stories there's always a lesson to be learned from them.

Sadly about 45 percent of the time it is a person is guilty and has to prove they r innocent They don’t care if it cost you everything Our system is broke How do you pay a person for20 years of their life

Martin Sheen does desperation better than anyone - the sweat, the eyes, the gestures - but not over the top. The script was a bit corny ('This is America'...'I used to believe in something') but strong performances made it believable. A great watch.

When the victim is asked to point to the person who had allegedly committed the crime against him, he just has to point to one of the defendants sitting right in front of the court.
