I just reconnected my beloved mama piggy with a daughter she hasn’t seen in nearly 4 years. Her cage mate (another daughter) passed away 3 weeks ago, and she desperately needed another companion. Thankfully, they were in that 80%, and got along right away! I even wonder if they somehow remember each other. I made the tough decision to send her home with my friend, because I didn’t want my sweetie to be lonely. Best of luck to anyone trying to find a buddy for their fur baby!

Thank you so much for advising against bonding babies with adults. Social media is full of bad advice, “you can only bond brothers” or “get a baby for your lone boar as it always works” (until they become teenagers!) We’ve got 16 rescued boys of various ages (mostly old)& none are related. We have got our 16 boars in a herd- I don’t recommend that to others though as it can be risky. Mine are very chilled boars now (like Saskia’s) and they live in a very large enclosure (or large room in our house in winter). I have spare cages for separating pigs if they were to fall out. I love your channel. It’s great to see someone else with so many boars.

The Crazy Guinea Pig Family 16 boars in a herd? Are they neutered?
@TheCrazyGuineaPigFamily5 жыл бұрын
Only 2 are neutered (they arrived like that) and 14 aren’t. My original 12 have been together a long time without drama. I’ve recently added 2 special needs piggies (blind, head tilt and 1 who had a stroke after mange seizures) & 2 babies as they weren’t thriving without a healthy grown up pig to “teach them how to pig”! :) 3 weeks later and all is calm. Fingers crossed.

We recently bonded two new girls with our two existing girls, it was intense due to one of our original girls super dominant, she even got into a stand off with our other original piggie who she was ALREADY bonded with and had never gotten into a fight with before, at one point I thought we were going to have to separate her from the others, she was pulling out hair and chasing ALL the others around relentlessly, it was nuts! I stayed up ALL night watching and had to break up 2 fights (between her and the other girl she was ALREADY bonded to before the introduction of the newbies), BUT, I'm so happy we got good advise from the Facebook piggie group and stuck it out, only took about 48 hours and our girls have been living peacefully ever since, they all seem so happy now! So if you're bonding girls, like Scotty said, even if it LOOKS ugly, as long as no one is bleeding stick it out, the bickering won't last more than a couple days, they just need to figure out their hierarchy, which I'm guessing is more difficult for them to do without a male around.

This is actually a fantastic video I stumbled upon. I’m getting ready for some piggies in the near future, but I’ve had piggies in the past (which were boys). The boys did actually okay bonding, and I think it was because I had one as a baby, then adopted the second as an adult from a completely different organization. At first they bickered but then the two started getting along really well. I will say i never knew the girls would bond better, I had heard the opposite from one of the adoption centers so thank you for this!

I am so glad to find this video. I have worried about bonding our older boy with our new baby. We adopted him and he has been a single guy for over a year. As far as I know his whole life. After I dug into some research I found out they needed a buddy and adopted a baby. They have cuddled and moved around each other but the most aggressive behavior I have seen is our big guy expressing his dominance. It has been pretty smooth otherwise. I have watched your videos all evening. I did get the original guinea pig after my youngest who is 7 but mature for her age has been asking for one. I am taking responsibility for them both and I have seriously fallen in love with these little guys. Thanks for all you do for these fuzzy sweet pets.

Thank you for an informative video. We adopted two brothers a few months back. After a month or so one of them had an eye injury- I suspect they had been fighting. During his recovery I had to separate them and now if they get close to one another they start to chattering their teeth and I’m afraid that I won’t be able to rebonding them. Therefore it’s nice to know that it’s fine for them to live side by side😊
@ScottysAnimals4 ай бұрын
If they drew blood they should be separated. It is possible that one of them got a coincidental hay poke. You should be able to tell the difference between an eye scratch or bite versus a hey poke however. Regardless having terramycin antibiotic eye ointment on hand can be a lifesaver. And when it comes to rebonding, a pair of boys that have actually drawn blood and fought are very unlikely to get back together. But over time they may be able to tolerate a 5-minute play date. I would wrap your hand in a towel and make sure to separate before things get out of hand

Thanks for this video Scotty. I've had a situation with 2 of my males Rudy & Zachary who got along fine when Rudy was very young. When he became a teen he bit Zachary in the neck, 2 very deep puncture holes required vet visits & antibiotics. So they've been separated since but living side by side, like Pip & Gari. I thought they could never be bonded again, but maybe once Rudy is older I can try to re-bond them. Thanks Scotty soooo much for this GOLDEN info!! I had truly given up hope and felt disgusted at the prospect of ever having male piggies again. Now I feel more hopeful. My girl piggies are divas but my boys really make me laugh. Great video scotty. I have an example of what can go wrong will go wrong sometimes. I teemed up father and son and after several months fighting started instigated by the son. They lived side by side with occasional interactions but fights would start. After the father died i decided to nueter the son and try a femail becouse he had always been the one not getting along. So i took in a rescue female that wouldnt live with other females. Even after weeks of being side by side there was a sudden explosive fight and before i could grab either of then she had her eye bitten through literally punctured. She had her eye removed and subsequent treatment for infection in the eye socket. She pulled through and coped fine with one eye but my boy developed a lump and this time couldnt take the aneasthetic and died the next morning. My one eyed girl then lives happily with a herd of three girls i got to put next to her so she wouldnt be lonely!! She got on fine and they all lived together hapily but what trauma getting there. I would endorse what you say dont give up but sometimes its good to be content with males living side by side. Well done scotty and lagprescue on recent evacuations. i managed to form a good bond between two boys guinea pigs tied, my first piglet at 8 months was the new 6-7 months. Where we brought the new they said they wouldn’t get along with each other so we could only hope it wouldn’t. They both met for the first time in an unfamiliar area where there was little chasing but no fighting. About an hour later, they lay side by side in the same pose. They’ve been together ever since, there wasn’t a big fight. Sometimes they get together a strand of hay or vegetables. The big one sometimes chases the little one, sometimes they get together and there will be a little force pointing and going to click but that more serious fight is missed by luck. I don’t know if the fact that none of them had a partner in front of each other for a long time contributed to this

That guy loves those animals, lol. I rescued a herd of 3 about a month ago. A mommy, a daddy, and a baby girl. I am going to likely end up with two more girls for a bit, so I needed to know how to do this. I am making all the cages myself because I have a ton of space for them in my large basement. I'm working on a design that is mobile and keeps the guinea pigs safe from predator animals so they can free range a bit when the weather gets warmer. :)

When I was a kid, I remember we put an adult male guinea pig with a baby girl guinea pig and the male kept attacking the baby girl and we had to separate them. Do you know why that happened?
@ScottysAnimals9 ай бұрын
Are you sure they were attacking? That might have just been your interpretation of normal male female social behavior. We do not condone breeding at the Los Angeles Guinea Pig Rescue as there are so many unwanted guinea pigs in shelters and rescues as it is. But I myself am guilty of breeding guinea pigs when I was younger, but we did not have the information that we do now and I also don't believe that there was as much of a problem as exists today, but I still spend every day making up for the mistakes I made in the past
@furbl43459 ай бұрын
@@ScottysAnimals Thank you for the feedback. I wasn't trying to breed them. Perhaps the little girl guinea pig was actually a boy guinea pig. That's why the adult male was attacking him? I think you said adult male can co-exist with baby boy guinea pig before their puberty hits, correct? I was a kid and didn't know much about how to care for them at first by pairing them. He was really attacking her.

Please follow up with me by sending a message to the contact page on my website but I would be willing to bet that almost certainly two baby boys growing up together are going to end up fighting especially with a third older male in the mix. We put pepper alone for a minute to introduce the other 3 since they're less dominant. It went well they did everything you said was normal in the video had a huge "mating session" got exhausted and all fell asleep. My husband decided to see if he could try and introduce pepper to one of the new pigs he thought would be a good choice and low and behind they got along!! Cages side by side the whole time swapping them about and everything went smoothly. I added all four together in the main cage and they have been happy pigs, pepper appears calmer and happier and pretzel is so happy and relaxed with a new friend and not being picked on ♡

I hate buying in pet stores like petco/pet smart but I just lost my Guinea pig and his mate was getting severely depressed. No matter where I looked there were no boy Guinea pigs, one rescue was giving me a hard time and this rescue I work at only had girls. So my last resort was Petco. I have gotten 3 Guinea pigs from Petco, and what do you know they are/were all sick. My first was when I was 10, she lived a happy 5 years (there where barely any resources so my family didn't know better) and she was sick with something, bit me for 5 years straight. My second Guinea pig was a resent buy on March 8th because I ran in for pellets but I saw my Romeo was sick and I knew he wouldn't be alive by the end of the week I could see how bad his condition was through the glass! I knew I could cover his medical so I bought him and he has a mass on his face that thankfully is almost gone with antibiotics and an upper respiratory infection that is almost gone. He's in recovery and living his best life! My newest one, Zukko has some tummy issues but it's not severe and I had no choice for other piggies to bond so I bought him. I'm still working with them, its still a possibility and I'm trying not to loose hope, it is only day 2 and the first day they made major progress! In all honesty I think people should buy from those awful pet stores to save innocent Lives but of course if you can cover it. It can get pretty expensive but it's worth it :)

After losing the 8 year old dominant make this week a tried to introduce a 3 yr old female to my 3 yr old neutered male. I saw them roll together then the male ran off. They seem to be avoiding each other. Can you share your experience of this. The cute girlie Alpaga white seems a little shaken. When I gave them veggies this morning she seemed in a trance until Diego squeeked to announce food. Then she ate. But when he joined her at any rack they rolled and now they seem to avoid each other. They are in a 10m2 enclosure but she seems scared to move around. Any tips ? 🙏

Man, you worried me. I got two baby boys before i found these vids. Did a lot of research prior too. They are in a 2x6 so hopefully they will have enough space to get through their adolescence. I'll get extra grids incase I need to split the cage 😢. Currently have 3 houses, 2 bowls in there.

Our girls lived side by side most of the time because we didn't know their fights weren't serious. I wish we had this info back then! But they were always able to see each other and keep each other company at least. (Also omg I'm flattered lol 😶 I hope it helps you raise good funds 😊)

BB chirps:“Scotty, you know what Kaye’s going to say about girl bonding .” Hazel bit a hole in Lena’s neck and I was at the emergency vet at 11pm! I would love to believe 80% but I can’t. My boys, I have been blessed. They cry if their cage mate is not there! I do have three that live separated by a grid for safety. So I agree with a lot of what you say but it seems I’ve had tough cases.

Yes they must have changed it recently. However you can see there is a clip of that video in this video because I thought someday that might happen. The clip that I share should be all you need to see to realize that it is different with girls. As long as there is no blood drawn. But you also should always cover your hand with fleece in case you do feel the need to separate them. Luckily this type of reaction with girls is pretty rare

@@ScottysAnimals Hello. We are trying to bond our 2 girls. One of them had their mouth open (we were definitely seeing teeth). No bite actually happened, but lots of scratches on the other (they are hairless). I described it like a cartoon and then just heard your description. Do you think we should try again? We had them in neutral territory with food and places to hide. Thank you

So I have 2 boars Huey my Skinny who is between 4-8 months old unsure as we got him at a pet shop. Weighs about 1.8pounds. Fluffy a year old according to the humane society I rescued him from a week ago. Who is a pound more then Huey. They have had 3 skuffles resulting in scratches on the skinny. Hear a lot of rumble strutting and chattering etc. No bite marks. I only pull the divider from their 2x5 C and C when I can monitor them. Yesterday Huey lunged at Fluffy no fight he back off from what we saw. Did I make a bad choice in pairing based on the age? Both boys are sweet and usually no issues with the divider. The scratches are just breaking the skin hardly.

Wee Companions bonded our 9 month old boar with a baby - and wow did the baby grow up fast and all of the brotherly love! They live in the same room, a couple feet apart because the "baby" would try to bite the older one through the bars. Baby is now over 1 year old - Wondering if we should try re-bonding them?

Our almost 8 year old girl just lost her cage mate of 5 years. She was getting really depressed, so we adopted. The problem was that there was a bonded pair that the center did not want to seperate so we got both of them. It seems one of the ones in the bonded pair is a dominant piggie and our older one is too. They are not getting along and we don't know what to do! Our cage is 5x2, but we are having to seperate them for now which means the section where the bonded pair is, isn't quite big enough. HELP!!

I am surprised that the adoption center did not facilitate a bonding. Please check out the rescue list on my website. www.scottysanimals.com

I wish i saw this video before. my guinea pig cookie may she rest in peace with along 3 of her babies, was a mother to one girl and two boys. Cookie and alexa the daughter bonded very well they never got in a fight. The boys Chocolate and Caramelo had a bond when they were just a month old after that I noticed the teeth chattering or territorial. I witnessed their first fight my mistake was to stop the fight and got bit real bad.

So true about related pigs. Even girls. Even moms and baby girls will fight a lot. Maybe not to a destructive degree but they are certainly not harmonious to say the least. + love the tarot design.

I love those wooden log hideys. Where did you get them?
@ScottysAnimals2 жыл бұрын
Please look on my website in diet section. www.scottysanimals.com However, I prefer to use them as a hay rack. Smaller piggies can poop and pee in them and they will get gross fast. Also they will chew on them if they aren't full of hay. Perfectly safe but have sugary ingredients so only chewed in moderation is best.

Hi, Scotty. My question about bonding is this: I have a neutered male and a female. They are litter mates and about 10 months old. I had Salvatore neutered on Dec 11, 2019, and waited 3 months before trying to put the two together. That was on March 11th. Salvatore just chased Tosca around, trying to mate with her. Tosca ran for her life and sprayed pee on Sal. That was only for 20 seconds. I separated them and have not tried again. How should I proceed? Will they ever get along?

I just got a little 3 week old piggy (the owners weren't aware that they had a male and female together untill it was late and had 6 babies) and about a month ago I adopted a solo skinny pig from the aspca( he was secluded from birth bc he got a skin condition a week after being born I've been bathing him twice a week with an anti fungal and anti infectant they gave me) he's about 4 months old now and he seems very skittish and sad most of the time, he takes veggies from me, I hope they bond well.

Hi Scotty👋....I just saw your video and realized it wasn't the best choice to bring a second boy from the petshop (not a baby but a younger one) and man....it's been the longest three days if our lives (theirs and ours) the 1st day was rough, lots of shattering, nose punching and chasing. 2nd day looked a bit better, yet lots of purring and threats and chasing from the older piggie went on but I don't know exactly how long I should wait until deciding wether to separate them or leave them together until nature does its thing. Day 3 sometimes they can take naps and share hay but the older piggie is always trying to limit the other one, for example watching him trying to get a sip of water or a piece of veggie would be enough to trigger him and chase him back to his hiding place, making him stay there 80% of the day(the older to the newcomer) We're really concerned we don't know if the little one is being stressed out uselessly or if things will get any better. TOTALLY LOVE YOUR VIDEOS, THE LOVE YOU EXPRESS TO THEM AND THE CONTENT IS JUST SO USEFUL....YOU'RE THE BEST!! ♡

Why people think that you can't have only one guinea pig? I have one boy and we are bonding 24/7 perfectly. We do everything together, even shopping and going to church. If you are alone and single, you can absolutely live so happily with one pig, trust me. Greetings from Europe. 🙏❤️😇
