I have a younger cousin that got rabbits. They got two but later left for vacation leaving food behind for them. One of them died. When I visited and saw the narrow cage, the survivor was sitting in its own poop.. Rabbits need space. Not a 2x3 ft cage. They feed him so many snacks instead of their primary diet which is hay. I have mine with a litter tray with wood shavings under hay which takes up a lot of the poo. Another litter tray in the corner with wood shavings where the water is that they pee in. @sidedvegetables Жыл бұрын
constantly?? do you mean everyday or??? cuz that’s completely unnecessary. you could spot clean 1-2 times a day for about 30 minutes each and then spend 2 hrs on the weekend doing a complete clean out which isn’t that hard. i dont really think they’re that high maintenance just cuz ppl choose for it to be. i will agree that they r expensive but once you buy/make decent fleece liners, it really isnt that expensive compared to a dog. unless your cage is massive and you have like 10 of them, they aren’t extremely high management lmfao

I have guinea pigs, and imo they are pretty low maintenance You mainly just have to clean their poos a few times everyday (fleece liners make it very easy to just sweep it up with a dustpan and brush) And side jobs would be making sure they have enough hay/grass, pellets and water and feed them some vegetables (only like a handful everyday, its not much, you can grow the veg and they can eat a lot of variety)
@monsieur_swiggleton Жыл бұрын
@@lizz9907 yes, you sound like a good owner, they need half a cup, but it doesnt need to be exact (per piggy) and make sure you wash their veggies, and get them from the store, or grow them without pesticides. I had 5 piggies and one thing you should know is they are prone to cancer. 3 out of our five had confirmed cancer and 2 passed away from it. 2 others had "possible cancer" and that mixed with them being very old meant it was getting hard to pay for the medical bills. They went to an old piggies home after we found out about the cancer as they would be looked after properly for their lasts days by someone who could afford to. I know it sounds cruel but it was the best thing we could do for them as we couldn't go through any more deaths and it meant they would live out their days with other old piggies. My brothers piggy (yes singular... she doesn't like other guinea pigs... at all.) Also has cancer and may need to be put down if it gets any bigger. IDK if my old piggies are still alive, it's been a long time since they went to their home. I hope they are doing okay. Moral of that story is they can get sick a lot. They get hey poke, bloat, cancer, UTIs and easily get pneumonia (one of our girls had it. It was caught early so she was okay in the end) and vet bills are not cheap. "They can be relatively low maintenance" Yeah sure, tell that to younger me when I got my guinea pigs. Because not only was only one of them supposed to be mine, my brother who also had one, decides to do jack shit. So I not only did I end up taking care of two brother guinea pigs who were filled with energy and me learning from as to what to do, I ended up becoming their father. I have to clean the top of where my guinea pigs step on in the cage because of the newspaper I put that's filled with piss and so much shit that you wonder how many more times they shit compared to a human. Then, there's the matter of finding creative ways to give them places to hide so they feel protected as they prefer darker spots to remain hidden and away from noise. Next up is washing that whole fucking cage once a week which is easy in summer but is a pain in the ass to clean in winter that I want to shoot myself due to how problematic it is for me. Then I have to wash my little critters with a certain type of soap, put them in a sort of bathtub or fill a plastic box with water that isn't too small and also making sure they don't try to jump out because they will try to leave whilst you wash them. Next, cut their fucking nails. I am always so scared of cutting their nails in fear of cutting a piece that you shouldn't cut otherwise their nails get longer which makes it harder for them to move and they become like Black Panther's claws. As for the last part, spending at least an hour with those two which drains me since I either carry them with me together or I just don't come up with shit to do with them. I already lost one guinea pig now and his brother is also grieving. I'm still gonna take care of him because I love him. But when he passes on, I'm done with animals. Great video, very informative! I’d like to add for anyone considering adopting that the hay isn’t just for hiding - it’s vital to keeping their digestion moving. They need a constant supply, some sources say that just 48 hours without it can be fatal.

I've got 2 adopted hairless guinea pigs and I have never had pets as high maintenance as my girls. Lots of vet bills and you have to keep such a close eye on them because they can get ill and go downhill so quickly. They are so worth it though. They have such great personalities and are a constant source of amusement. I am a converted crazy guinea pig lady for life

One of the sweetest animals there are, but not low maintenance, they need a lot of cleaning up after and need to be fed proper diet regularly, worth the effort, but take a fair amount of care.
@andreamoore1539 Жыл бұрын
They are not low maintenance. You have to clean their cage/ enclosure daily because they are susceptible to respiratory infections and other ailments. Needless to say, they are NOT a starter animal for a young child. They also need attention daily! The good thing is that once they are situated, they can be left alone while you go to work... but they should not be left alone with no hay or water.... they will get sick and can die without hay and vitamin C from veggies!

Had 6 piggos at one time. They loved to be cuddled, went crazy at the sound of plastic bags(thinking it was dinner time), they loved cuddling up with the dog or cat. Watching them popcorn around thier room was funny to watch.

If you are thinking of getting guinea pigs, I would highly recommend subscribing to the pig room. He is a small business owner and currently has like 17 guinea pigs and helps people learn how to take care of them and also rescues guinea pigs
@carolineg7638 Жыл бұрын
Actually, Guinea pigs aren’t the cuddliest animals, even though if they know they’re owner well they can enjoy petting and stuff like that. If they are picked up or someone does something that scares them, they will not show this but just be still and quiet out of fear which often misleads to people thinking they like it but really they’re just afraid😕

Guinea pigs have ALWAYS been a popular pet. They are not low maintenance pets though if you're gonna treat them right.
@jknjnk4 ай бұрын
i have 2 and they are not low maintenance, you have to spot clea twice a day, fresh veggies daily, floor time AND lap time every day, expssenive vet bills (200 just to see one) wheeling all the time, chews on bars, and a full cage clean once a week. all that aside i love mine, one passed away a couple months ago but i still have one, I've had her since i was 7, im 13 now.

This is Adorable!! ❤ But here are some mistakes ppl do is put them in a bath, they hate it, they dont know how to swim and fight for their lives. 2.dont put them near agressive animals bc they can kill them. 3.research b4 getting a guinea pig! 4.dont put their backs on the floor, they can injure them. 5.if they get stuck in a plastic bag, remove INMEDETLY, if not, then it can cause the piggies death. 6.if ur gonna get a guinea pig, get 2 bc then they will be depressed 💔 Pls read this, this is very important. And b4 u say I am lying, no I am not, I have 2 guinea pigs.

Me and my sister grew up taking care of guinea pigs more than any other pets as kids. They're sweet, fun, and easier to rake care of than fish, at least for me. We must've raised 3-4 throughout our childhood, giving them lots of food, hay, and outdoor time.

I have a guinea pig and I love him so much he is very vocal, curious and cute as well ❤ always make sure to do your research before buying them tho. my sis wanted a rabbit so my parents got her it, but he ended up dying because of unknown reasons. I think it was because we didn’t know how to care for him 😢

They're the complete opposite of low maintenance. They not only need constant care & attention, but you have to keep them in groups in order to make them healthy and happy

Sad story: I had a Guinea pig once, we only got one. We named him “tucker”. He was white with big brown blotches, we got him a nice cage. But he was very skittish, and didn’t want to play.. when we tried to play with him, he always ran away, or he tried to hide. He was just so depressed. And we found out we should’ve gotten two after he died of old age.. R.I.P sir-tucks-alot!

Mine are extremely loud. Probably because theres 10 in one room, but they know they get their vegetables around 7 every day, so when i walk in they all go absolutely crazy
@vincenthernandez22429 ай бұрын
Saying they're vocal is an UNDERSTATEMENT. When they're hungry in the morning and want breakfast their screams WILL PIERCE YOUR EARS from how loud and high pitched they are. I guarantee you'll never need an alarm clock again. They are super cute tho as long as you can stand getting woken up by "WEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!! WEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!" every single day
