+Rekikz Well, on average it takes about 10-15 million dollars to build a mile of roadway (a lot of this cost is red tape bureaucracy which would still be present for this project). So, Andy Green used about 13 miles to go supersonic. So let's triple that for a new hyper-sonic roadway. So for this hyper-sonic highway we are looking at 468 million dollars. 39 mile track at 12 million (average) cost per mile.

@@liamgboothNope. Its jet powered. The Cosworth V8, later changed to a Jaguar V8 is used to power the fuel pump for the hybrid-rocket engine's oxidiser fuel line. They get her up to speed using the Eurofighter engine and then they throttle that V8 to maximum revs and engage the drive which in turn powers the fuel pump which dumps a few tons worth of oxidiser into the rockets combustion chamber and boom, the rocket fires up. Its actually the rocket which gives the top speed and maximum thrust. The jet/hybrid rocket combo gives even more power than the twin-speys from Thrust SSC without all the weight of having two massive jet engines.

Lift occurs when there is excess air pressure underneath something rather than over it. Excess pressure over something creates downforce. Try sticking your hand out a car window and changing the angle. Feel how the wind pushes your hand down when the hand is angled downwards. It's the same concept here.
@BragizTheFentanylAttractor10 ай бұрын

I can recall the front page, above the fold reports on the record breaking efforts Breedlove breaking Campbell's record, Art Arrfon (so?) in his natural gas powered car and so many more. Unfortunately the coverage isn't what it was in the past, today people have no clue who holds records in any classification. "Indian" the film, says it all, the draw to get to the Salt, the respect of the drivers have for each other, the history, and the rush from achieving your goal, the thrill from seeing it happen

Depends on the temperature. The speed of sound is equal to the square root of Gamma*R*T where gamma is the ratio of specific heats (1.4 for air), R is the gas constant, and T is the temperature. If it was a cool day, then the speed of sound could have been lower. This is also why you can be supersonic at altitude (say 40,000') at Mach 1.1 and no boom reaches the ground because yes, you are supersonic in the cold air at altitude but not at near ground level. The shock stops propogating.
