I completely agree with the amp being the most important part of the overall tone. Having a great guitar without a great amp is like having all the knowledge and skills in your head of a jujitsu fighter but you have no arms or legs to fight with. Same scenario imo. Great video and tones bro! 👍 ✌️

Updated comment. A few keywords mistakes, lol made my comment unreadable. Just checked it, I was like, “what the hell was I trying to say”. Fixed now.

I own a '74 Pro Reverb and just love it, except when I have to lug the 58 lbs of amp around for gigs. It is about half of a Twin Reverb, rated at 40 watts. I love the 2X12 speaker arrangement too. I upgraded the stock speakers to Weber 12A150s ("A" for alnico magnets). They are such a nice pairing with this amp. I pulled out the Sovtek preamp tubes and replaced them with old stock RCA tubes. I highly recommend that upgrade in place of the current production offerings. If run JJ 6L6GCs in the power section. My amp tech blackfaced the circuit, and I couldn't be happier, despite this amp having a master volume. I bought mine for $900 about ten years ago and you would be lucky find one at todays prices.

Sounds like you have a PROPER amp !! The pro is quickly becoming my favourite “ bigger “ amp I’ve ever used !

Great video! Great playing! I always pick my 60’s blackface reverb amp based on the size of the room I’m playing in. They all have that same great Fender Tone in the end. 👌 ✌️

Sweet tones as usual. From both amps. Both guitars.

Love those sounds. Yeah all of ‘em. Just a thought. How about a comparison with the two amp types overdriven how you like them. You got it figured out! Sound great anyway haha.

I have that same "RW" Princeton clone. In fact I got it based on your older videos when you got yours. It does pretty much everything I love too.. Jenson P8R and I pushed the pre-amp voltage up a bit and put a smaller bypass cap on V1. I honestly think it sits nicely between 6V6 and 6L6 being mostly clean with compression from the alnico speaker when pushed. I saw a video on here where a guy said, "All a small amp needs is reverb." A SurfyBear definitely makes that true!

That sounds like a perfect upgrade - there's defo something magic in his amps !! I really RATE them , and exactly that if I could somehow get fender reverb inside it I would be set I reckon !!

@@FretJunkies My only gripe, which is petty af really, is that 8" is 8" in terms of fidelity. Unless loud AF. As a recording amp A-OK but I wish there was a 10" speaker in there sometimes. I fed that back to the builder who said he regrets making the cabs too small to fit one. Then like you say: 10", 6v6, reverb.. its a blackface Princeton init. Just how it went historically..
@FretJunkiesАй бұрын
@@cgavin1yeah man I guess that’s how it must’ve gone historically ?? I’m leaning towards a brown face deluxe tone at the minute ! The Suhr hombre has caught my eye but not sure I can get past the way it’s built ?? Dunno ? I personally feel I can hear differences from point to point as opposed to circuit board ? That being said I loved my old Rockerverb and the clips of the Suhr do sound great ??? Rabbit hole…….. Again ………. Ha !

Cannot forget speaker and cab though too. Can have an amazing guitar and amp but if the can and speaker suck...

@@rjeric8185 honestly speakers are a Massive part !! I’ve not really got into the cab woods and method of building / as of yet 🥴🙃🙃

The SG through the Pro Reverb sounds killer and special! Humbucker clean tones through a 6L6 or any other clean high headroom amp are so underrated. For me personally, Fender Strat clean tones are so boring because you hear them nearly in every second Insta post…
