Well, I don't want to tell you that you're wrong for feeling guilty. Feel how you want but they're a huge corporation with, by and large, less than stellar service in my opinion and people come and go all day every day. I'm sure they don't care about one more aspiring musician who comes in to play the gear and look around.The service isn't horrible or anything, Sam Ash is worse but it could be better.

lol I used go to a McDonald's near Biltmore estate in NC that had stone masonry, custom walls, marble floors etc. They have to meet a certain code to build near landmarks like that I guess. The food tasted like every other McDonald's though.

I went into guitar center with $3200 I asked to see this top shelf strat that was in tye dye. Guy said "nope...you aren't gonna buy that guitar. I said "that's right" as I pulled one of those mafia rolls out with the rubber band. Can you recommend another store that sells it in the area? There's always some kind of weird attitudes coming from the employees. I started seeking out private deals or smaller shops. Like Guitar Town in Indianapolis. Nice stuff.

I didn't feel guilty last time I walked out of Guitar Center without buying anything because before I left I asked an employee if their used Kimberly guitar was still somewhere in the store and the guy blew me off and told me to check reverb for "weird shit". Only bad experience I've had at Guitar Center. Everyone else at my local GC is really awesome and have been very kind/ helpful to me.

I have a funny Guitar Center story. For my birthday I asked my parents for a ukulele. Upon opening the box, I noticed that there was not any tape on the outside of the box or on the foam bag that protected the ukulele. Once I took the ukulele out of the bag, I found that there were two cracks on the front. My dad called the store to explain what happened, and my mom exchanged it. The employees did not give them a hard time, so I guess that this was a normal occurrence or they were just extra nice. Happy Birthday to me!

I live directly behind a guitar center, I've been there for hours on end before and not bought anything. It's a great place, the staff are actually helpful, nice, and will even jam out with customers. All in the name of sales probably, but then again, at least they go the extra mile to make you feel welcome.

Pensacola, FL: The Guitar Center here was hit by a tornado a while back. The other LOCAL stores BOOMED!!!! Now, I always know what I want before I go in. The "sales" staff are not rocket scientists, so don't expect absolute experts. They are there to get the gear from the back room for you. I rarely rely on the employees for sound advice. I always research my product before going in. I would call to see if it was in stock before I drove 15 miles.

The best GC hack is to NOT buy a new guitar there. I always go straight to the Used Gear area and look for the bright colored tags. There are good deals to be had, but you can't let your impulses get the best of you. It helps to know what luthiers charge for things like fret levelling and swapping pickups before buying, so you can figure that into your overall purchase price. Then weigh that against the cost of new; you can often still come out ahead and end up with something closer to your dream axe than a stock model.

I'm a lefty and love playing guitar. I have 3 left handed guitars. A Strat, Les Paul, and an Ibanez acoustic. I bought my les paul, which is an Epiphone at guitar center hollywood and my 2 other guitars are used that I bought at some local shops. If I had as much money as what could of been in that money truck, I would buy a Cherry Red SG and a Les Paul 100th birthday signature model, and a Marshall plexi.

I don't feel bad not buying anything if I go there and jam for two hours. Why? In my lifetime, I've cumulatively spent probably $8,000 at guitar center. That earns me my place there I think.
