I've played Guitar since 1965 and have known many various riffs played off of triads and arppegios but the the most difficult thing to try teaching someone is imagination. Yet it is a vital necessity in order to be a good Guitarist. Partly what you did here was help to develope imagination. That's a big accomplishment.

Just a thought… that struggle might be related to a poor guitar setup. I am assuming you are playing steel string. If so, a guitar with a shorter scale and a slimmer neck can help too. I put out a video a few weeks ago on bar chords. It provides an approach that might help you build up to it. Here is the link. kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2OoeKBta7tsqbMsi=yjT7sIAR78vdUS5g

Hello I just found your channel. I played from the age of 10 to about 21. I put it down and had other interest in my life. I am now almost 70 and picked it back up just before Covid lock down. I went down to work local music store and picked up 1 of my 12 different guitars, trading back and forth. I have small hands and with age my fingers to my brain don't work like they did. I finally decided to put a little more money into what would at least sound better. Got a Martin but struggled till my friend told me about Taylor I went and got a 214ce. The neck made it playable for my hands. I do miss that Martin sound. The Taylor is a great guitar but punchy. I am thinking about going back to Martin but I don't want to lose the easier way with the Taylor. I enjoyed your videos and have Subscribed to your channel. What should I do, I miss the Martin but?????? Thanks David
@guitarnotions2 ай бұрын
You should be able to find a Martin guitar that fits your needs. The Martin you had might have just needed someone to do a proper setup. But even with a good setup, if the guitar is the wrong style, scale, neck size, or body size it maybe uncomfortable. The Martin you had might have been larger in size (like a dreadnaught) making it more challenging for you. Find a guitar store with a good reputation in your area ask to try guitars that are 12 frets to the body and or short scale. Try smaller size body (your Taylor is an auditorium size and has a 1.687” nut, and it has 25.5 scale. ) Also consider a Martin 00 or 000 in size see what you think. I guess what I am trying to say is there are many styles, shapes, neck sizes and neck scale. I don’t have a quick answer to what guitar is best for you. Find a store with a great reputation and get help from someone that has the knowledge to help you make a choice. There are so many great guitar companies out there. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to get a great instrument that fits you and your style. Hope this is helpful ❤️

@guitarnotions Thank you so much..I think it was an x series, I tried the cut. Which I bought, the was a 00 series both were right at 1000.0..the Taylor feels so good and size is very comfortable. I can't play bar cords due to arthritis, I can play c chords easily, The Martin I couldn't

Love your channel! Getting back into playing and I’m in the market for a guitar. Was looking at some of the Yamahas, mainly the FG830 for around $350, but then I heard your Martin and all I can say is wow! That sounds beautiful! Way nicer! But it costs more than my car so… 😂 Will a cheap guitar make playing more difficult?
@guitarnotions3 ай бұрын
😀You do not need to spend large amt of money to get a good guitar. It is best to go to a store and play them if you can. Yamaha makes some nice instruments but if you can sample them before it helps. Once you buy it make sure it is setup correctly so it plays easy. If you go play check out Epiphone, Eastman, Guild, Takamine, Breedlove they all have decent guitars with solid tops for under $500. Thanks for listening in❤️

Morning ... you were doing those walk downs on G and I was trying to play it .. the fancy picking thing you did, but when you did it, I felt like there was some split division like it was not all on the beat .... slowed it down and it did sound like it was... so maybe I need to practice finger picking to get it faster? Seemed like syncopation somehow when you played it not boring like I thought it went.....alternating e and d string w/thumb and 1st and 3rd finger
@guitarnotions3 ай бұрын
It’s best to take the frame work and play it slow til you feel super comfortable. Turn on a metronome start slow. Then increase the timing. Another thing you can do is take a song you already know that has one of or more of the 3 chords and try to add the riff in the song. I will try to show a quick example in tomorrow mornings video. Hope what I am saying isn't confusing. Thanks❤️

So, it seems that the "trick" is to locate the 1 and dominant 7 of the scale, and move chromatically up or down. Am I understanding correctly?
@guitarnotions3 ай бұрын
Well let’s test it… checking G chord we start with a 5th (D) on the third string and E on the first. And if you are in E you start with B (5th) on the 3rd string and Ab on the first string. My theory is not all that strong, but based on that I would say they are not the same. I looked this up and found a clear definition “a dominant seventh chord, or major minor seventh chord, is a seventh chord, composed of a root, major third, perfect fifth, and minor seventh. “ …If that doesn’t make your head swim you are genius 🤣❤️
@Maydoggie2 ай бұрын
