When a rock god guitarist like Slash is devastated, you know it was a huge loss, and it was. Eddie changed everything about being a guitarist. He raised the bar so high no one will be able to touch it for eons. It's so hard for me to comprehend. I'm almost 60 now and I grew up listening to Van Halen. I was a punk kid and knew everything about life and I knew that Eddie was the man. Eddie was someone that you thought would never die. You didn't even consider it. The body may have died, but his music will live on forever and his guitar playing will never be matched. Thank you so much Eddie, for the sounds you created for me, the things that you did and for making my childhood so, so sweet.

Your car your comment was so to the heart so accurate it defines I'm sure what a lot of us feel but he was my youth I'm 53 and I'm also so very grateful for the good times that that music provided me with I heard little dreamer a little while ago and boy did it grab me everyday I wake up and wonder if if I can not be stuck on it but I'm still stuck on it I had no idea that so many people out there had the same exact feeling that I had my girlfriend isn't a big Van Halen fan but I think now she kind of sees it I never had kids so I never had to grow up the music had always made me feel so young only the Van Halen grabbed me the way other music doesn't when I listen to Van Halen it puts me in a kind of a dream state thinking of California and the '70s and the '80s it just was so lucky to grow up the time we did I did not realize that until this death and I love Motorhead too what a tragic loss lemmy never got the credit he deserved when Chris Cornell died I was pretty bummed out but not anything on the scale of Eddie for me the world just seems quieter to me in a strange way now I feel as though I don't have as much happiness in my soul but whatever take care bro

Eddie was the Nikola Tesla of Rock guitar. Nothing was the same after he revealed his inventions. His legacy is world changing for those he affected. The absolute Tyrannosaurus Rex of rock. My heart is broken for his family, friends and myself I shall never again stand in his glorious halls and revel in the victory of him creating his masterpieces. May he Rock in Peace for eternity.

I can clearly attest to the fact that Eddie Van Halen was extremely unpretentious and down-to-earth as I met him in a music store in New Jersey by the name of Robbie's which has since been sold to a quick check. He quickly put me at ease by telling me to forget about his great Fortune and just talk to me as an average Joe which made all the difference! God bless Eddie and his family!

Four days after his death, I saw Eddie from 2015 interview on a show based on the Great American Dream, that show & other interviews I'd seen about him from people who'd spent years with him made me think how down to earth he seemed, as you describe him too. Not that he didnt enjoy the financial success his talent & hard work earned him, but some famous people realize that if they live long enough some day there will be people who dont know who they are or will ask -is he or she still alive? Family not fame seemed to be Eddies greatest treasure. Smart man.

LIGHT UP THE SKY!. It was a quiet Sunday, summer afternoon in 1985. Mum and I were on our way to Toronto's International Airport to pick up my father, who was returning from another one of his trips to Lagos, Nigeria. We drove up Hwy 427 in our 1978 Volvo GL. Mum loved that car, and always made mentioned of how the silver paint had specks of yellow in it. She was a painter and had an acute eye for colour. When we got to the airport, we parked at the departures level so we could avoid traffic. As we crossed the roadway toward the terminal entrance, I flipped on my headphones, and pressed play on my red Sanyo walkman. It was positioned on my favourite track, Van Halen's 'Light Up The Sky'. As we went through the sliding doors and my eyes adjusted to the light, I noticed a man with curly blond hair. He was small and skinny, wore a black t-shirt and jeans. He walked alongside another man of similar size.I suddenly recognized him. He was the guitar player of this well known Canadian band that had a couple of hit songs, known as , Honeymoon Suite. "Lame" I thought to myself. I'm a Van Fuckin Halen fan. Everyone else were just posers. There was another guy with a similar small and slim stature walking beside Blondie Locks . It took me a second or two to realize that the man standing before me was in fact 'Eddie Van -(Fuckin)-Halen!!!' himself. His hair was shorter. He was wearing a sports jacket and baggie pants. Far from the patched jeans and fro-like mane he'd been known for. As I turned back to tell mum who it was, I saw a taller, tanned man, struggling with some large pieces of luggage. His hair was long and he donned a white head-band in matching Miami Vice white suit, accented by a pair of Rey Bans, a tropical pink tee-shirt, white loafers, no socks. "Alex Van -Fuckin' Halen!' It was unbelievable. My very next thought was of my friends abs how fucking jealous they were going to be, and if they'd even believe me. I couldn't let this moment go by without contact. Eddie was leaning against the counter by himself, a few people recognized him and were casually gawking. Mum knew who Eddie was, just like all mother constantly subjected to her children's musical tastes. I was apprehensive about approaching Eddie, but Alex had a big smile on his face, so I went up to him and extended my hand out, and introduced myself. "Hi, Im Kalen" was all i could muster. He smiled large, and shook my hand as vigorously as hits tge cymbals. 'Hey man..Alex.' He was dealing with quite a load of luggage, so I mumbled adulations and then turned back toward Eddie, who was now standing quietly alone at the counter. My mum, sensing my reluctance to disturb him, intervened and quietly approached him. 'Excuse me, my son loves you so much, do you think you could him give him your autograph?" Eddie looked at her and made that famous Eddie Grin, 'Yeah sure.' He took the pen from mum's hand, and signed the back of a photograph she'd dug out of her purse. It was then that I stepped forward and introduced myself. 'Hi I'm Kalen' He shook my hand. 'I'm Eddie' he said, still shyly grinning. "You know it's really crazy," I said, '...cause I'm listening to you guys right now." And I showed him my red Sanyo. Eddie looked down to see his album still spinning, in my walkman. "Its Van Halen ll" I said. 'Light Up The Sky." "That's so cool man!" And chuckled. I thanked him and sadly stepped back into the small group of gawkers as Eddie and Alex were ushered behind the gate's glass barrier. We descended down to the arrivals level. My poor father did not get the usual fanfare he was use to. It was never a good thing to have to follow Van Halen in any event. As we drove home, I day- dreamed of California and Rock Stars and the life only teenagers can conjure. The End "...come see your children as they're lighting up the sky.' I miss you Mum.

If you play guitar and he inspires you, FANTASTIC! If you have the musician bug and REALLY want to follow that path, GO FOR IT! Van Halen's first album came out when I was 17 and really wanting to be a bass player in a big time rock band. Life didn't work out for me that way but I have a close friend from those days that ended up being a lead/rhythm guitarist in the "Best Bar Band In The World". (They had radio hits and people would know the name.) He had the heart and drive to keep plugging away at his craft and has made a name for himself locally and internationally. Other well-known musicians have played on his CDs and respect his abilities. He's not Beverly Hills rich, but he's lived the dream he had since his teens and received respect and admiration from his peers and lives comfortably in a good neighborhood not too far from me now. If you want it, do your damnedest to achieve it!

I wasn't born until '82, but there's a few albums I couldn't imagine what it must have been like hearing for the first time when they first came out. King Crimson's first album, Frank Zappa's Hot Rats, and the first Van Halen album are the first three on that list (in no real order because I can't even pick). Eddie played not only faster but cleaner than anybody else at the time and his tone with the echo, especially on that first album was pure magic.

People don’t get why I feel the way I feel about Eddie’s passing. I’m a guitarplayer, grew up in the eighties and nineties with bands like Van Halen, Toto, Mr.Big, GnR, Extreme and many more. Eddie was like the holy grail. He’s up there with Jimi. The hours I spent on listening, rewinding tapes, practising en jamming along to his solo’s, figuring out his sound and technique. Man, I learned more from tapes than from my former guitarteachers. Eddie’s passing is hard to comprehend and really hurts. I’m devistated. Eddie was immortal to me but reality sucks.

I understand I’ve listened to Van Halen since 1978! The start ! JUMP Tour 9 May 1984 Van Halen was my entire Jr HS & high school days and we had a high school rock station Van Halen Every Hour on the radio -working for Pantera - Van Halen music was mandatory 🤣🎶 listening- Van Halen music has always been in my life since I was 13-14 teen I can’t even remember the first song I heard -I had their albums & posters & Shirts ... my parents thought I was going to hell in a hand basket listen to Black Sabbath & Iron Maiden & AC⚡️DC -yet my parents approved of me listening to Van Halen ✌🏼 I remember just about everything the day Randy Rhodes died - my High School literally announced the plane crash over our PA system - literally our entire school even teacher were crying that didn’t know him ... we all cried at school for weeks ... I still remember his birthday and the crash happened on my sisters birthday - I always am reminded of that day And now this ... 😓 I still cry tears over RR especially when Sharon & Ozzy talk about him ... (California high school) My favorite guitarists of all time 🌟Edward Lodewijk Van Halen 🌟Dimond Darell Abbott ... 🌟Randy Rhodes all Top Rock Stars in my heart People ask me my favorite VH song / come on ... Any & All of them ... 🤣🤣🤣 It’s a great time of great sorrow ... Amazing experience- I was up close And Then 2004 September & December I was blessed to have deep meaningful life real type talk with ELV ... he talked mostly just about Wolfgang- honest truth (He was sober & calm when I saw him for maybe 3-4 hrs) December 2004 Arlington Texas - well that was another story ... Texas will always remember what Edward ✨ did for Diamond Darrell 💎 I can’t very well control my tears for 5 days - My boys birthdays are October 5 & 7 and I will be deeply reminded every year & for The rest of my life on Earth (My boys are Lefties & play guitar- one plays it Jimmy Hendrix style & other plays right handed even though he’s left handed) Fender 1st two days I couldn’t stop crying Tears pour down my face uncontrollably - like a faucet turn on my eyes - I just pray for his family and son now every time I start to cry again fir last 3 days ... 😓 I’ve dedicated 5 days to just playing Van Halen all day long ... Great Respect for The Guitar Guru of all time ... 🐝Edward Lodewijk Van Halen 🐝 Rock On Soul Brothers ✌🏼🇺🇸 🇳🇱

Lots of people get it...those who don't- who cares? Their loss. At least there's social media to share thoughts & feelings with like minded people.... a lot of my life it was either person to person, some type of tribute or memorial like a concert, or annual meeting of fans on the anniversary of a persons death or their birthday somewhere locally.

All I know is I want to play the GNR Pinball Machine being a Pinball Wizard in my teens and through my twenties. Broke a lot of scoring records on many versions of pinball machines, old and new. There were many times I could play for an hour on the same quarter, continuously scoring free games during play!! Wish I had the $$$ to buy this GNR Pinball Machine and have a chance of breaking the scoring record now that I'm 57. Perhaps I should start a "Go Fund Me" Page.. ;) Hey Slash, How about sending one over. I'd much rather have the pinball machine then a VR gaming system. Neither of which I can afford at this time due to being out of work due to COVID. BTW, I really am Professional Chef as my screen name hints at. Peace Out.. ;)

In the bitter cold of Mid March, waited almost 2.5 hours in line to meet the band at the legendary “Sam the record man” store. I could not believe I was meeting the legend, I said “Eddie always wanted to shake the hand that Rocks the world”. Eddie smiled and said “Thanks for coming”, he signed the CD. Just because we get old doesn't mean were dead . I'm 62 and I'll always follow rock. I play too and I guarantee respect for what these guys do.

What a stupid comment. It's not about staying young it's about how well you age. Also Slash is doing great. I know a lot young people who are already old and elderly people who a very playful

Hello everyone, That's not what I wanted to say... When I think of Slash I imagine a Guitarist.. With long curly hair, Top hat, a les paul hanging low... And playing some amazing Rock music... Its hard to imagine... That person growing old.... To all of you reading.. May you have a Long healthy and happy life... Cheers

A buddy of mine saw Eddie Van Halen promoting guitars at a guitar show in Tulsa back in the mid 80’s. He said Eddie looked disheveled like he had just rolled out of bed, no shower for days and he smelled horrible like piss and puke. Still the throng of followers crowded around him hoping for an autograph. An amazing talent yet like many celebrities he struggled with his own demons. Sadly every time I saw a video or article about him I always thought back about that event.
