Thanks for making this and making it so simple. On the descending part--When I've seen them play live, instead of descending with single notes starting on the B on the 6th string, he'd do chords starting at the 12 and 14 fret, 5th and 4th string respectively, and just go down the neck--which sounds and looks pretty cool

Not Max. T'was Ernest "Boom" Carter that played on this track. However, it's understood that many may not realize that Springsteen had interim musicians playing with him in '75 until he was satisfied with his roster. Fun fact (yeah I have a 13 year old): Max said he could never duplicate the drum fills that Carter used on the album track (starting around 2:42 on the BTR album track). When you hear it, I can understand why. Ernest is blasting the hat, the snare and kick in split seconds. That small piece of drumming is absolutely sick.

Great lesson, Marty! Love the way you simplified it a smidge to make it playable on acoustic without just making it the E-A-B nonsense that a few other teachers do. Can you do the same for Badlands?

Just a super lesson for this song. I'm in process doing a drum cover, but I play a little guitar too, so, I may try an acoustic cover as well. Could never do it without a lesson like this! I think I can do it, but i couldn't figure it out on my own. All the best Marty!

Hi Marty, I've just recently stumbled onto your videos, brilliant stuff. A few weeks ago, I found an old acoustic Decca guitar I received as a Christmas gift from my mom & dad back back when I was 13. As I recall, the Decca was in the Sears catalogue. Back then. I guess I was a kid with a short attention span, and didn't get very far with learning to play. Anyways flash forward 45 years, the old Decca would need a minor repair to glue the side of the body to the back of the body, and replace a couple missing strings, but I think the old girl can add some joy and to my life if I take some baby steps and learn to play a tune or two. I figure I'll try to learn some basics such as starting with how to properly tune a guitar, and learn chord or two, and maybe I'll be able to strum myself into a hobby that will be a nice stress reducer.
