I love the concepts in this video. I always see these ads saying learn to play guitar in 15 minutes a day. I generally practice between 2 and 8 hours a day and I don't feel like I practice enough and I am just an intermediate player.

Excellent stuff ,My great find for the day . I struggle with what to practice . The more I learn the more there is to forget . Circling back can be an endless Cycle of non improvement. Having a good plan makes a big difference and is much less stressful.

A good memorisation technique for some of these core concepts is to learn them layer by layer based on the CAGED chords: 1. CAGED Root notes 2. CAGED triads 3. CAGED chord tones 4. CAGED pentatonics 5. CAGED arpeggios 6. CAGED add extensions etc.

Very helpful, Korey. I’m right at the place with my guitar playing where I understand everything you said. And you answered a lot of the questions I had about how to be more disciplined and focused in my practice time. Thanks.

Thanks - that's a really great tip - to do all your core stuff in one key for a day, then switch to a new key the next day. Definitely going to implement that!

This was an amazing lecture, thank you very much! I have been in a rut with disciplined practice for about a month, I guess maybe the holidays threw me off. I need to ramp it back up, and I will take your instruction to heart in building back my momentum with practice. Again, thank you very much!

I dashed off and bought a book you showed very briefly. It is “Reading Studies For Guitar”. It doesn’t have a lot of text or explanations. It’s primarily pages of staff music. Is there a complementary online course that brings some strategy and explanation? It is from Berkeley Press, so maybe an online class or something? Thank you again for this great video.

Yes, the main book from that series is Modern Method for Guitar by Bill Leavitt (volumes 1,2,3)

Great video! Didn't understand only one thing. You sair that if you are practicing triads in G and you didn't get to the 2nd inversions, per example, you would do them the next day. But was't I supposed to go to C the next day? Or if I couldn't get all of the stuff in G covered in that day should I continue in G the next day. Or practice 2nd inversions in G the next time I plan in G? Got a little confused in there xD Thank you very much!
@KoreyHicksGuitar2 жыл бұрын
C next day, but do the inversions you missed. My thought process is to try and collect all the different types of inversions and know them well enough that you can get through them each day. But in the beginning, you don’t wanna stay stuck in one key for multiple days. Some students will stay in one key until they think they’ve perfected it and sit there for weeks or months afraid to move on.
@gilao98042 жыл бұрын
@@KoreyHicksGuitar so, let me see if I got this straight… doing the 2nd inversions in C? Or ending the 2nd inversions in G and starting to see the triads in C then?
