Could you recommend a solid state amp for practicing?
@KoreyHicksGuitarАй бұрын
@@patrickhowe7689 Fender Champion 20 used will run you $40-50 or the new Champion 25. The 20 is my favorite little amp for practice.

Korey, thank you for a great practice routine and book suggestion. I plan on starting this today, which will take a while to get up and running. Outside of classical guitar, why do you recommend practicing sight reading? Thanks!

Learning to read helps to map the whole neck out in your mind in note names instead of fret #’s. I’m 43, and stopped thinking in terms of “14th fret, high E” when I was 16. It’s the note F#, and it’s the Major 3rd of D or the 5th of B, etc - it was probably the single most important Guitar improvement decision of my life. When I’m playing gigs and playing 60 songs over four hours, I never once think of what fret I’m on only interval andnote name. The human brain has a really difficult time associating different numerical values to the same object, such as 14th fret meaning the 3 of D so this fixes that as well.

@@KoreyHicksGuitar I learned to read music when I studied classical guitar, but I never looked at it the way you explained here. This gives me a fresh perspective and a good reason to go back to working on sight reading skills to apply to all styles. Thank you for taking the time to respond!

Thank you very much for this! Please make that book about practice! If I had someone explaining how to spend my time rather noodling, I'd be so much better
