I like these kinds of tutorials where they assume you already know how to play the guitar, but just want to learn the song. The tuts that break it up by every single note and pluck just drive me insane! Good job!

amazing lesson, not just for the tune (which i never though i'd be able to play), but for the style of the lesson itself - perfectly paced and laid out for the guitarist who's been playing a while but wants to get into the meat of the tune quickly. thanks a lot!

you did an excellent job of showing all the nuances, especially the double-stops/hammer on/offs ...if you don't know those, then this tune is too advanced for you. My hand has a problem keeping the thumb holding down the bottom string whilst doing the double stops on the top strings...but I'm going to have to let my hand stretch out or finesse it. Jimi had GIANT hands! Thanks so much for this wonderful lesson and great tone sir!

Great tutorial! Amazing how Hendrix did his chord fill... still inspiring after all these years... for example, the way he utilizes his thumb to hit the root 'A' or 'G' on the low E string, and then immediately reaches behind that fret with his index finger on the G string to hit the 9th and trill to the third... man, who'da thunk it except Hendrix?! Plan on covering this tune in my band... thanks so much for the help gettin' it under finger, and great job in execution!

Just saw this one, even though it been out there for years. Probably the most accurate tutorial on "Bold as Love" I have seen. And as you say in the intro: its probably good to know a little Jimi Hendrix chords and double stops before starting here. The Gsus is very difficult if you don't have long fingers... Thanks for this lesson. I think i'll help quite a few....

This is probably one of the best lessons i could find for this song. Maybe its a tiny bit too fast but nothing going back 5 seconds cant solve. If only there was the full song as the main verse bit is played with a different spin on it after the chorus. Also i think the chorus can get played 2 different ways as you hear 2 different guitars in the studio version of it.

Hi Erik - The amp I'm using is a 1969 Marshall 100W. - with a 70's 4x12 cabinet (25 watt greenbacks) . The Strat is a CIJ with 69' Fender customshop pickups and the pedal I'm using (which is on for the entire clip) is a Berkos FX Germanium Experience fuzz (..extremely rare fuzz-face..!). I hope that helps... Thank You Erik..!

Thanks Phil, So you use the Fuzz and roll off the volume on the guitar to get that semi-clean sound? and also you mentioned that you use Thomastik strings, are those the Power Brights Medium Light? Thanks again
@PWGWORKSHOP8 жыл бұрын
Erik Holm Nielsen .. Exactly.. I roll down the volume to get that 'chime' (or sparkle) in the top end... Normally the strings I use are Tomastik's 9-47 ..(9's with a heavy bottom..).. thanks Erik..!

@PWGWORKSHOP11 жыл бұрын
This is a lot more about your technique....The pickups, amps and guitars can all help, but it starts with how you play it first. Focus on using your thumb to capture the bass notes and stay loose and relaxed to insure your technique and timing are spot on...So yes..Tex-mex pickups are fine. I hope that helps..lots of practice too..:)

@PWGWORKSHOP9 ай бұрын
It’s not too high up on the fuzz - maybe 9 o’clock.. level about 2:00 o’clock or so.. guitar is rolled down to 7-8 or so as well.. the Marshall amp helps & the fuzz is super rare, it a Berkos ‘Germanium Experience’ fuzz.. great pedal if you can possibly find one..✌🏼

Man, I can play the whole thing pretty well but the double stops at 1.55 are killing me -they sound wrong. Dunno if I am playing this on a Les Paul that has something to do with it or not. Do you have a quick tab for that bit? Keep up the videos - you play great and you don't patronise. But: more videos! Some Zep please. Or Clapton.

I'm in 5th position, I use my 4th finger to hammer-on then pull-off at the 8th fret of the 'b' string..the rest is more double stops..listen to it very carefully...As I mentioned in the start of this video, it is not a simple piece...So stay at it and it will eventually come together..!

Can you explain the inversion portion? Why is it called an inversion?
@PWGWORKSHOP9 жыл бұрын
Well, when you do an inversion of a chord, you change the order of when the notes happen in the chord... To invert something is to turn it upside-down... So that is what Jimi did quite often... He used 1st inversion quite a bit (the 3rd of the chord is in the bass, the lowest note)... I hope that helps..!
@stratagize11 жыл бұрын
that's pretty harsh don't you think?...he clearly stated that this wasn't a song for beginners. He's assuming you know a bit about chord progressions and movements and Hendrix melodic techniques. If you don't know that stuff already then yeah...I can understand how you might be disappointed. But I can assure you it's all there. Plain as day if you know what you are looking at.

what are the three chords he plays at 4.04?
@PWGWORKSHOP11 жыл бұрын
It's just a blues turnaround in 'A' - so I'm playing on the 9th fret switching between the 'G' & high 'E' strings...Do this moving down chromatically to the 8th, then to the 7th fret...then you punch the F# minor chord... I hope that helps..!
@stevenshankar836510 жыл бұрын
I play those as a C#m7b5 chromatically down to a Bm7b5. gosk.com/chords/m7b5-chords-for-guitar.php First fingering shown on that site except play the root note on the high e instead of the low e. (Not sure if this is correct but it sounds good.)

PWGWORKSHOP lol well I know for the sake of the beginners and the experts alike that you're trying to focus away from the kind of amp and guitar you're using and focus more on the actual playing. So if I had to guess....lemme listen one more time..JMP? Not a bluesbreaker...I dunno. Cool sound though.

I see no point whatsoever in tuning the guitar down unless your playing with the record. Nuisance.
@PWGWORKSHOP7 жыл бұрын
Well, I personally want to play in the original key, you can't do that for this (and many other) Hendrix song(s) if you don't tune-down...So.., to me - it's very much like painting a picture with the wrong colors...I also know you may not be performing this in a live situation, whereas I have many times & again to me, it makes a big difference.
@cybernautsterranautsandast21517 жыл бұрын
Fine for you. The fingerings are the same. Only you know you're tuned down. For teaching purposes, I consider it a headache that is unnecessary (for older folks with clocks ticking). I use Riff Station and with one click Eb can be bumped up a semitone to E on the sound file of the song. I'd rather re-tune the music to the guitar than the guitar to the music. It's a question of wasting time for no gain in the learning of the song. When one is ready to do the whole thing and for performance, then tune the guitar. Just my logic.
