Oh my it’s so refreshing when someone teaches a song online and actually is good at their instrument and knows a bit about music. God job and nice playing!

thank you so much, this has been the most informative video i've found so far. i love the way you break it down and teach each individual chord and shape. i've never played electric, so i don't know any of the chords yet. i've been playing ukulele for a little over a year now, and wanted to undertake a new instrument. after learning prince played 27 instruments, i was majorly inspired, and i wanted to honor him by learning one of his as my first.

The musical story behind these bits is that Wendy Melvoin evidently did not play the guitar in the actual recording, she only faked it in the music video or MTV piece created to market the tune. Prince himself laid down t he guitar parts, and as the demo here show, it not only requires knowledge on the chord shapes but mostly 16th note cadence and strumming and unless you can get that down, you're going to have difficulty convincing anyone you're playing this tune right. Of course, Prince did incorporate several lead licks along with the fast strum and the wah pedal, but a small detail, right?

Nice work my man. How about the funky wah solo, by, apparently wendy. You know we gotta have it!!!

First chord is D6/9, not D9. No C note in there.
@riffinrob72317 жыл бұрын
no, its an E9 drop 2 voicing in 3rd inversion.
@riffinrob72317 жыл бұрын
they're both technically the same thing, but the context is different. the bass is implying the 5 chord, going back to 1, thats why its an e9, not a d6/9

Your right hand needs to be more relaxed. You’ll achieve a feel that’s closer to that of funk.

That sounds too clean, like Pat Boone is trying to play it. If you slur it more it will be closer.
