I have been struggling with Romanza for 10 years. I always felt there is more to this music than simply playing notes. This lesson has opened a new world for me. Romanza can burst with emotion if played correctly. There is more to playing the acoustic guitar than simply placing fingers in the correct pattern. It's all about the blood. (Mozart in the Jungle). Thank you so very much. BTW I saw you perform in Socorro, N.M. My one ambition in life is to play this piece as beautifully as you do. Best of luck Michael.

I play a simple arrangement of this as I consider myself a beginner. What makes this piece so special? I simply love it!

As someone who was never taught classical guitar, but has learnt a few pieces and used recordings (and my impressions of the time period, the piece was aimed at) to get the 'tone'. This was an invaluable lesson. Thank you! Personally, in the first section, I use my pinky finger throughout (to fret almost all the melody). A hangup, of using this piece to train my pinky finger up (and train my hand to compensate for its movement) :) Now, I switch fingers during the first section. To alter tone and vibrato effects. Vibrato, thats the other thing I enjoy messing with in the first section. Also enjoy, with the first section, repeating it but changing the timing/melody of the notes (but keep the original melodies 'vibe'). As for the second section; I'm currently building up a 'Chet Atkins' style rhythm over the original chords. So I can play it once through as 'standard'. and a second time through in Chet style. Segovia might not have approved, but I think it brings life and fun to it :)

This is what a real guitar lesson looks like. Not "put your finger here play this string then put your finger here..." - if you need that kind of lesson, please don't pick pieces like this to learn. Learn some studies and get your fingers ready, then watch this to learn how to play musically.

For a beginner like me, explaining the right hand picking would be helpful. Thank you.

Michael Chapdelaine explanations are at a high level, even though this piece is "easy". The right hand fingers play with a pattern p, a, m, i (p=thumb, a=ring, m=middle, i=pinky) all throughout. The left hand fingers (1,2 ,3, 4) are indicated on the music score/tab, being important the positions. I would suggest that you refer to simple tutorials before getting back to Michael's video. You might want to see and learn the following video kzbin.info/www/bejne/bIucpKmjosh8esk which provides easy explanations for your point, and comes with a free tablature.

This covers the right hand pretty extensively. Happy hunting Carole! kzbin.info/www/bejne/gaKmYaR3qJecibM
