Well, I finally cracked this monster. After about 2 weeks of practicing maybe a half-hour a day, I can now play everything that Michael does in that first 30 seconds, almost at tempo. When I first started on the "Chap-slap", I thought there was no way it would ever feel normal. And I certainly thought that I'd never be able to hit the desired melody note with a downward flick of the "i" or "m" finger. Believe me though, it happens. Just go really slow and work through the uncomfortableness of the technique because the joy in being able to play this is well worth it. I'm now hopping to the end of the piece and will begin working backwards through it a few bars at a time. I've found this to be a really great way of learning. Start with the last 3-4 bars and practice them until comfortable. Now try the 3-4 bars before that, each time being sure to continue playing through what you've already learned. Eventually you get to the beginning. Now when you play though, you are constantly moving into more and more familiar territory. It lets you play with confidence. Dammit, Michael. I played this video for my guitar elective class and they all wanted to learn the arrangement... They were all beginners. Boo on you for getting a bunch of city kids interested in guitar. You horrible person, you (smile). Please continue to get me "mad". I "hate it" when teenagers who are usually glued to their iPhones and facebook get into playing an instrument, especially the guitar. You know what I mean. Hopefully my jest came through. i dont like really this song at all. but this arrangement is excellent and theres no doubt im gonna try to learn it. this is a great introduction to the whole style of well......finger style EDIT- im having trouble at 13 min. you just brush right past how to play that part. im not sure what to hit and when. and you are using the open string instead of the 5th fret on the string above . so its confusing as i was practicing one way, and your fingers are not doin what mine are. then i have to figure out why. anyways thanks again this is still a great tutorial. PLEASE MAKE MORE.

no, if you rotate your forearm, from the elbow, to make the Chap-slap, you will not leave the strings.
