As a kid, I took guitar lessons from an accordion player. Those early music books had a lot of bass runs included in the “Old Suzanna” kind of songs. I didn’t really take to it at the time. Looking back, I did myself a great disservice. Once you hear them, you hear the snare. Then you hear the chords and melody line. Finally, the licks. By salivating over the flashy licks, I stunted my progress by years. At this old age, I’m obsessed by the connective tissues. So much so that I now listen to accordion players and watch their left (bass) hand. Life has a way of coming around full circle. Those bass hooks are magical. Thanks for a wonderful lesson Kirk.

This is how music stays alive, by passing on the lessons you've learned just as these things were shared with you by players you've come to know. There's never been a better time than today with technology enabling the ability to reach so many people and there's never been better teachers than those like yourself who care enough about the music to want to take the time to share not just the mechanics of music making but the joy of how music enriches and gives meaning to life. Just saying thank you seems like not enough, but it will have to do until something better comes along. Thank you.

This video just highlights the need to know theory. It makes riff writing and song writing so much easier when you know what will fit in any given situation. When I started playing 30 years ago, I had no idea what keys were or what chords fit where. It was pretty embarrassing when other guitarists would call out a key and I'd have to have them tell me what chords to play. I took lessons and theory really opened up the fret board for me.

Amazing tutorial. I've just recently learned that those doubles stops, dyads sound so good over the chords you're playing.
@DJArrigo2 жыл бұрын
Lots of mileage here! That’s amazing how you explain it. We all learn connections on the fretboard as we lean songs and improvise soloing. It’s cool we can apply the double stops to any key from just moving it up or down anywhere. Another thing that help me a lot is thinking in the relative minor pentatonic from its major. So many slidey barred embellishments ideas can add a lot to a song or solo. Kirk thank you 🙏 you inspire me so much!!!!
