Pablo, you are a true artist!!! I was holding my breath when you took the rosette out, but when you do it it looks so easy. Great video!

Pablo, These 2 videos are the best and most informative I have seen on the subject of making rosettes. Keep making such videos please. Many thanks.

I would say this is mastery of one’s craft but it’s a level higher than that.

These are two of the best demonstrations on this subject I have seen so far. Would it be possible to make a video on how Javier actually put the pieces in the rosette channel?

Hi Jim, I am pleased you liked the videos. I will make a video abut it at some point. Thanks. Pablo

Hi Jim, here is a video explaining how to assemble the rosette, I hope you find it useful. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJq0gIyllNipmq8

Hi Pablo, I always made my rosettes outside the soundboard but after this video I tried your method which I find very interesting, unfortunately I encountered some difficulties in reinserting the rosette back in place. I measured with my digital caliper all the components (strips and mosaic tiles) and made the channel accordingly but something happend as I put the glue in, the rosette did not want to get back in place . Obviously the wood swelled because of glue, so my question for you is: - How bigger than the rosette the channel must be, half millimeter maybe? Thank you very very much for your reply and greetings from Italy !!!
@redkitekk5 жыл бұрын
Andrea Forni yes, I leave a little bit of room for the veneers to expand, but not as much as 0,5 mm, I have never measured it but my guess is that you need about 0.3 mm. If you leave too much space you will end up having some gaps. You also need to compress the veneers as you fit in the rosette and put the glue only on the slot on the soundboard. I hope this helps.

Hi Pablo! Thanks again for this Video...it is great! I am doing a rosette following your method. Now it is time to use the masking tape but I'm afraid to screw up. I did not use heat to bend the strips of wood and felt a lot of pressure to put everything in place. Will the tape hold the wood without pre bending?
@redkitekk6 жыл бұрын
Ricardo Meiros hopefully it will work out, I always bend the strips to avoid problems, so let me know. Also if it goes in very tight it means you have too many strips. It needs to fit in easy otherwise when you are using the glue it can be very difficult to fit it back in. Good luck!!!

Do you ever use thin CA glue on your rosettes?
@redkitekk6 жыл бұрын
I am not sure it is a good idea to use CA glue as it can run in the end grain of the soundboard and it can make the wood darker and it would look terrible, also, depending on the type of rosette you make you will find that often there is a lot of end grain on them and these pieces will also get very dark with CA glue. I would use Titebond or animal glue.

PabloRequena Thanks. I am excited to try my first rosette

@@redkitekk , you are right. I tried to use CA in two guitar's rosettes and even thought at first it looked just fine, in the end when finishing the guitar I noticed that in both guitars some parts of the rosette started to lift. I never had this issue when using regular wood glue (I use titebond too), so at least for me, CA is not a good choice for this job. Thanks for your video, I really appreciate it.

Hi pablo, great videos thanks. What type of tape are you using on your caul to prevent the glue sticking to it?
