It’s just like my first Les Paul all natural but mine was born on January 10, 1980. She replaced my SG Jr. back in the early 80s and I still have her. Blessings to you 2 I’ll miss y’all next week Im going to Peru on a Medical mission trip I’m the only doctor going with a few nurses. My normal work is as an ER doctor, love y’alls show.

Brian Orion I've got one just like this, in the same shape, and I wouldn't sell it for all the money in the world. Paid $600 for it brand new in 1982, and I've never played another guitar more comfortable to play.

As several have said, the Shaw humbuckers sound fantastic in this guitar. He is the most under-the-radar pickup guru ever. All the guitar nerds know but most regular guitar players and fans have no idea how great he made these pups. It's as close as he could get with the materials he was alotted. Gibson must not have treated him right because he left for Fender and has been there for at least 25 years. And a very humble and helpful guy, I must add.

I worked in the furniture industry for many years and dealt with hard woods like maple and such and I can tell you the wood grain in that guitar is just beautiful . I really love the natural finish on this one it rocks.

A 1979 Standard. Shouldn't those be T-tops? Or were they changed out for Tim Shaw's, which didn't start hitting Standard's until late 1980 and early 1981?

I know this is a 5yr old vid and a 5yr old comment… but yeah… a 79 Standard should have T-Tops. Shaws didn’t come till 80. Actually surprised Mark got this wrong.

Now if I had the money to spend, I would really be interested in this one!!! 1979 is the year I got my first electric guitar! A Conn Drifter Black Les Paul Custom!!! My buddies got brand new Gibson Les Pauls in 1980, a standard and a custom! Love this era even though they are snubbed by some collectors!

I had what I believe was an ebony '79 that I got around 1982 or 83, It had uncovered T Tops in it. Dummy me sold it in 1991 for $400-$425 with the Purple lined Gib case.

Most would say that this guitar has T-Tops. I have this same year and finish. Shaw’s came along in 1980 in the Heritage and Customs. But look at the date stamp on this guitar! 73659524! It’s the 25th guitar stamped on New Year’s Eve ‘79/80!

Bowie is gone now but was one of those people that made the world a little better. I have had a few Les Pauls of various types and even an Elegant Series from the Custom Shop. I am quite surprised but the one I have settled on is a humble little 1997 Studio in black and gold. It's great and has everything i'd expect form a good Les Paul. Plays like butter and is very loud acoustically with nice resonance with those sweet harmonic overtones popping out in the sustain of single notes. Who would have guessed. I always thought I would have to spend a fortune to get a really nice one. Nope. I still hanker for another nice SG and Explorer though, while also thinking I need a Strat and Tele for the stuff a LP is not so good at. I only have one guitar though. I always sell the ones I do not use so much. Not a hoarder.

A Norlin LP? I didn't care for them back then either. The blurriness of the PU's was one of the main reasons why after-market PU's for LP's exploded on the scene during the late 70's, the other was Ace Frehley!
