I've done this before. I drove across Wyoming for 7 hours in the snow, played for 1 hour and had the transmission in my van go out south of Casper on my way home at 3 in the morning. Playing the gig cost me $2000 in engine repairs. Welcome to show biz!

You are so right about the "Real Job" thing, I often drive 8 or 9 hours for a "Real Job" I really don't like.

I'd do this in a heartbeat to be playing guitar for a living. Nice one Mike 🤘

That was a great insight into the day of a hard working musician and it looks like it was a good gig and hopefully it was worth the 8 hour journey.

People think there’s good money in gigging. When you break it down for them, they realise most people do it for love only. Packing gear into the car, driving to the gig, unloading, setting up, sound checking and waiting an hour before playing. Play the gig, wait for a bit, break down the gear, pack it back into the car, drive home, unpack the car again. “Phwoar, a hundred quid for an hour? Nice work if you can get it!” It’s barely minimum wage in reality.

Indeed, like with any job, there are pros and cons.

Nice job - I know those Skegness rock and roll weekends, super fun. At least you got out quick. I remember when I was playing in pubs, clubs and especially private parties, that we couldn't break down and clear out until the night was officially over. Meaning we didn't get home until 1 or 2 o'clock in the morning, even if the gig was only 30 minutes away!

Oh I’ve been there My friend, it can be gruelling.

This is very relatable, love the portable rig and not needing to take an amp.I take a shed load of food with me though! I recommend the BBC 'Uncanny' series for late night drives home 👻

Yes of course, uncanny is brilliant, will def have a listen on my next big drive.
