Some companies are starting to roll back prices on guitars and amps. Is this just a spring fling or are we going to return to pre pandemic prices now that everyone isn't gear crazy.

Sam Ash sale, Gibson Les Paul 50's, was $2999, now $2799. Same guitar from Gibson, Sweetwater $2799. So they "slashed" prices to the normal price, No wonder they are going out of business

Sad thing is Sam Ash has to price these at that cause Gibson gives no room for profit . Gibson and Fender are cruel to retailers . I did get a Marshall Studio Vintage 20 watt for cost . GC priced match Sam Ash a month ago . The GC rep said "WOW , they must be going out of business , thats what we pay for them " . $999 for the Amp and $699 for the cab .

There is a catch, Many of the Gibson LP standards are 2022 stock. I bought a heritage cherry sunburst 50s and the guitar is incredible. The guitar looks beautiful and the tones are sweet. Also, the guitar came perfectly set up from Gibson! Intonation spot on and the tuning stability is insane. I was amazed the strings on a 2 year old guitar sounded so crisp, brite and still held perfect tune. I did some research and found Gibsons are shipped with Gibson Brite Wire strings. I just ordered some.

Dealers can't constantly be sending offers on reverb with huge discounts without the manufacturers having to lower prices. It's supply and demand too. I used to watch all those Andertons videos and in them the Marshall kept being called "bang for the buck" or they'd be like "this amp is good for the Marshall sound, but you could just get a Marshall for cheaper" and it confused the hell out of me. Then I did a straight pound to dollar conversion on their UK prices and found we were having over $1000 in mark up. Their studio 20 heads were under $1000 equivalent. From then on, I couldn't bring myself to buying a Marshall. Scalpers have ruined just about every one of my hobbies already and paying this crazy mark up made it feel so much like buying from scalpers.

Maybe its because Marshall is based in Britain? I recently snagged up the newly marked down Marshall DSL 40CR for 730. When they first came out they were 700. People are back to going out, to playing sport, to seeing friends, going bowling, cinema, gigs, shopping etc etc. covid was an anomaly and you have to think back really hard to when we could do nothing, not work, not go out, not see family so guitars, other instruments, home tech etc took off. Now it is an adjustment, people are offloading some of the guitars they bought and the prices of Gibsons, Fenders and PRS in particular have gone crazy. I have seen a huge downturn in secondhand, I recently bought a mystic red metallic fender strat standard with custom shop fats 50s in A1 condition for £850, a year ago they were trading £1200 to £1400. I think some sage people are offloading their inventory where they loaded up 10 or more guitars and are now looking at it in terms of mortgage payments or family vacations, this is bound to have a knock on effect to new guitar sales especially when you see them at $3000, $4000, 5000 and higher.

I'd like to know if Gibson and Fender price protect. If the time comes to really slash prices, what happens to the dealer who paid 20% more, just a few months ago, for the same item? Also not mentioned here is failure to maintain product desirability. Not long ago I would have paid $1400 for a USA Strat that weighed 7.5 pounds (and I did). Now, I'm asked to pay $2000 for a 9.5 pound guitar. It's like manufacturers think we don't notice the laurelwood, the poplar, the pine, the Richlite, the matte finish. All this stuff's ok, but should result in lower prices, not higher.

When everyone is "buying" they can raise (gouge) their prices. When everyone slows down on "buying" they need to lower their price to attract the purchasing-public, in order to "sell" and stay in business . 100% they're not doing it FOR the customer. They are doing it for the sales.

$200 off a $2999 guitar isn't much to get excited about when a trip for necessities at grocery store now costs $400 😅 Been keeping an eye on the aftermarket for killer deals on COVID boredom buys, mostly just entry level stuff to mod and tinker with, but the prices seem stagnant. People still asking well over $200 for used Harley Bentons and Squires.

Is it wrong that I’ve never brought a new guitar? I own 8 probably owned about 15 in total. I’ve never been disappointed with any and never lost money reselling. Doesn’t mean I’ve earned anything substantial it’s just given me the opportunity to play and own different guitars at little to no cost

Guitars, Gasoline or Gorgonzala Cheese, the market finds it's level and the market pressures set the prices. 30,000,000 people sitting at home alone during COVID, yeah you'll sell a lot of guitars, prices go up. Everyone out and about now, no one has time for guitar, prices go down.

First of many industries that will begin to cut prices or go out of business. People are strapped with credit card debt to keep up with inflation since the last election. No longer able to just load up on a credit card, people have slowed down discriminate purchases.

Your close on the economy but not quite there. The dollar is strong, meaning that American goods cost more overseas. And as bad as you might think our inflation is, it's worse overseas. So it's a double whammy.

I think the whole Musical Instrument business will slow down into non existence. Fender Guitars will be referred to as the new Beanie Babies. If you’re a collector thinking your exotic Guitar Collection is going to be your retirement fund, guess again. For a decade I sold Electric Guitars on eBay. The last one took me a year and a half to sell. I had to sell the Neck and the Body separately, because shipping went way up.
