Really love your vids, Jake. Great voice and delivery, and even if I'm just listening, the sound of you working on guitars is really soothing. Helps me chill out and decompress after doing a high-stress job every day. Thanks for all you do, man.

@CrashPK77 Thanks for the views and comments! I am glad that it helps people to relax etc. A lot of people get that same vibe from my videos. I have some friends with vision impairments that also love to listen to my voice on these videos. It is something I never planned on, but I am glad that it helps people step out of a stressful situation for a few minutes each day. thanks again! Jake

I got a Mexican strat from 96 that I took the neck off. Definitely a period correct fender body and neck, but the neck had 8 holes, like this one, and the 4 in the body was not all at 90 to the surface. I think that there was a hipshot detuner installed at some point, too. I saw problems when I bought it, but for $200 out the door, it's definitely worth the effort. New tuners on the way, holes plugged.

You sound like an older guy like me - perhaps you can remember when American guitar manufacturers would frequently stamp guitars as “Seconds” for defects and manufacturing flaws that couldn’t be seen without some disassembly like removing the pickguard. Nice tube - I like the model - I liked what you did with it.

Your posts have a grassroots feel plus you’re of the same era as myself which makes it comfy to watch. Embarrassed by my many years of ignorance about maintaining by beloved instruments. Believe I must have dumped a few good ones because I didn’t know how to care for them 😊

@hankreus7196 You're not alone, brother! I have let a few go due to lack of knowledge. I am now able to straighten out most of any issues that arise. It takes years to figure it out on your own. this is why I am sharing what I do. Back when I started, nobody would show you how to fix them . A few books existed, but not real in depth. I just kept tinkering until I figured it out. My approach is a little different than some, I am a journeyman ironworker by trade. This is like working on a bird house compared to erecting iron. lol. I'm glad you like the "laid-back" vibe in my videos. It's is not staged, I can tell you that. I just hit the record button and do what I do! lol, thanks again. Jake

@ you’re very open and honest, reflecting the better virtues of the generation before us. Retired now my background was in boilers, pumps and compressors. Lots of iron and steel during the days, power chords and wild wooly lead riffing at night 😜

@pasteye167111 күн бұрын
I presume that after taking the neck off, you checked for straightness (truss rod adjustment) before checking with the rocker - all off-camera. Front or back-bow will change the way the rocker reacts. It's not just Squire that re-drill. I have a Harley Benton that was buzzing at the tuner (hell to find as the buzz was travelling down the string and sounding at the bridge!), and when I removed the defective Cluson-style tuner to replace it I found extra holes underneath! Plugged the extras and a new tuner - now plays like a dream.
@guitarhoarder197211 күн бұрын
@pasteye1671 Yes, i do things off camera to save time, etc. I try to remember to tell people to always make sure the neck is straight before rocking the frets or anything for that matter. ty for the view and the nice comment. Jake

I bought one like that from Amazon to myself for this Christmas and the fret ends where just fine as was the rest of the guitar. A couple of weeks earlier I bought a red one and on that one they where razor sharp.

@BurninSven1 some are good, but a lot are sharp, but once they are fixed, usually great playing guitars.

I have a Squier Strat.2008. I am trying to get a Fender Tele. Are they better than the Squier? P,S. I subscribed. You are a great teacher.
@guitarhoarder19729 күн бұрын
thanks for the kind words. I own both squier tele and usa and also mex. I guess I look at it like this, the squier stuff usually needs set up work and sharp fret ends etc. the mex and usa stuff is usually set up better, but not always. I think the best advice I can offer is, try them out in person . if you like to tinker and want to learn how to do set up work and file frets etc. , then try a squier. I have played some squiers that were good out of the box, too. I prefer to play a guitar in person usually, but since I do this type of repair work it's not a big deal and I like the price and savings . hope this helps. Thanks for the sub too! Jake

Hey Jake! For some reason I'm wondering if someone put some kind of piezo pickup in the neck joint? Holes where the pickup may have been tacked into the body...? Extra holes in the neck from the misaligned reattachment caused by the piezo installation...? Hole through the body for the wire...? Wacky thought, I know.
@guitarhoarder197212 күн бұрын
@drp8062 I'm not really sure. This was bought brand new, and I'm the first one to take it apart. I was shocked, to be honest. very odd. I finished it up and played it a little while ago. it plays nice now. I guess it was just a fluke or a lemon.

I don't understand why people want to buy a guitar that is new, but it looks beat up ( you can do it yourself by playing ir). That's like buying used underwear ( and I'm not talking about anything kinky) that's called new ‼️🤣😂 Now I did buy a new Squire Affinity FMT telecaster that was called blemished because of scuff mark that isn't noticeable at a 20% discount.
@guitarhoarder197211 күн бұрын
@iamanovercomer3253 i agree with you for sure, I am not going to pay extra for a relic guitar from a big company. they look nice, etc. but you can do it yourself . I like to have a couple guitars that I call "beaters." I basically just experiment on them constantly. I find it weird that you can buy a blemished guitar at a discount and pay extra for a relic guitar from gibson or Fender. Hard to wrap my head around it at times. It was kinda fun to try some relic work on a cheap guitar or two. cool inspiring vine that is hard to walk buy without picking it up and playing..ty for the view and nice comment. Jake
