it’s so refreshing to hear her old stuff be appreciated. lately i’ve heard lots of people (due to recency bias from her new album, which is pop) saying she didn’t deserve all the praise she got for her lyrics or that she’s never been a real country artist, but when you look back at performances like this it’s obvious that none of that is true.

I agree. I'm a big fan of hers. Although admittedly, I lost touch with her music the same way I did with Taylor Swift - once those pop albums start coming out of country artists, I gradually start to lose interest. But for sure ST,DP and Pageant Material are two incredible albums and it's so refreshing to see this earlier stuff still get recognised and appreciated.

Everything about her and this performance are just devastating. What you said at the end of this video resonated with me so deeply. Thank you, Michael. My father has been sick for the last decade, I moved back home to try to help out. The situation is not great and just keeps getting worse. I've leaned on the jazz-cabbage to numb a fair bit. But now, for a variety of reasons, all signs are pointing to: "Leave". I almost started crying because the timing on this message was so on point. Thank you. Also...damn she's good. I am glad she is out there writing and performing real songs. She is a stone-cold killer.

Incredible description. I have been searching high and low for someone to tell me why I like this song. Thank you for breaking it down for me. Is there anyway you could do another video on something else like why ice cream tastes good? I have so many basic questions in my life that I need someone to answer for me and post in a video form in 10 minutes or less. Thank you for being brave enough to tackle these incredibly difficult questions during times like this when other people are so easily distracted and wasting their time trying to deal with things like famine or testicular cancer. Keep the focus, and I will keep the faith. God bless you.

Absolutely love Kacey Musgraves, she gets it. At 5:40 that "odd" note step down, I hear Beatles. Vocally she's brutal, wry heartfelt desperate lyrics against the gentle soothing melody, and voice. She never goes to that cry of anguish angry voice to show heartbreak, she leaves that to the listener, pay attention to find your own sadness. Kacey is over the top in her live presentations, her (and the band's) wardrobe is spot on for what she and her songs are saying. edit; Oh hey by the way Guitar Teacher, Wear some gloves for the hands hokay?

the other side to this, is that a lot of folks spend a lot of time traveling, moving to different states and countries, trying to "find themselves" looking for "something bigger" but more often than not, they go back to the simpler life.

I watched an interview with Shane McNally one of the largest country music producers around. He said in the interview he wrote the song. Looking at credits it said Musgraves and him co wrote and co produced giving two others credit for writing some. Oddly Shane is openly gay and it also puts a very interesting perspective on listening to the lyrics again. Listen again and you can see the words differently. Yes Michael stone cold killer. Listen again and put that perspective in. Changes up the lyrics and interpretations.
