4 amps into 1 speaker Vs 1 amp into 4 speakers was genius. Finally someone did that to show everyone what really shapes the tone.

Reminds me of that Glenn Fricker video when he was like "Here's a comparison between pickups, oh jk I accidently changed the speaker. Here's it for real .. except I changed the mic" and so on

After hearing that comparison I ran (did not walk) to my amp sim, loaded up that amp I felt like had potential but could never tame, and started swapping out the cabs and holy shit you're right the cab is like 80% of the amp's character. How have I been so blind? I knew it mattered a bit more than people assume, and yet here I am, dumbfounded... Thank you for setting me straight!!

I like the bright side on the 1st speaker more and the dark side on the other. It's because the hi end available from the 2nd speaker makes me feel like it's cut out and then I start to have reflexes that my hearing is impaired by pressure or clogged ears. The dark side on that case takes away the high end in more natural manner and is still perfectly usable for less intense back guitars, while the stone is still very high quality and on a first go I have absolutely nothing against that tone. That said, thank you for the video, you summed up the information on a very clear manner.

You are so right. As Glenn from spectre studios has been proven, the speaker + microphone position is where the guitar tone is. Everything in the chain including guitar and amp pales in importance, when you realice that, where your efforts and time are invest change radically Thanks for such informative video.

If the slide-in is a part of the riff I think it's in 76/8 (38/4?)... I can't tell which is which other than the second cycle [9+10+8+9] is brighter and has some cool phrasing :D

Hey David! Amazing video! Thanks a kit for sharing. There is a topic about guitar processing that I rarely hear handled as well as you do, which is pick attack with heavily distorted sounds. I usually struggle to tame it (I try different picks, picking angle, picking depth, compression, transient designers, etc), and I hear the attack on your notes is always impeccable. If you find the time to share how do you tackle the issue it would be amazing! Thank you again, and great to see you back. I heard you for the first time live in Berlin a few years ago and was blown away by your tone and music. You've been a great influence on all the gear I have bought since then. I'm really happy to see you're active again and wish you all the best with your return to the scene! 🎸

Absolutely love your music and happening upon this video was an extra treat. Then I realized I think somewhat similarly to you possibly. This video sums up the bulk, if not the entirety of what you need to worry about so thank you for that.I do have a question about the example you gave of phase issues with the ribbon mic moving closer while the dynamic mic stayed stationary. Maybe I am missing something, but my thoughts were that particular test would be more accurate when using the same mic for the stationary mic as the moving mic to avoid any unnecessary tonal changes inherent to the mic differences. Does that make sense? I think your point still stands true but maybe this hones in on the minutiae?
@DavidMaximMicic

Hi there :) Thanks for the question. That part of the video is primarily there to show the physics of sound hitting the capsules at different time intervals (distances) and how that causes phase-canceling or the change in the character of the tone. Showing it off with 2 different mics (a more real-world situation) plays no significant role in the demo (or even two different speakers for that matter) as it doesn't change the physics, which was again the only point I was presenting with that part of the video. Cheers :)

Very interesting comment about using the 'tick' burst for IR. Could you explain or make a video on how you capture and create IRs using this 'tick' sound: which pulse length / envelope of the tick , sample length and which deconvolver is used? In my limited trials with sine sweeps, I never got a perfect match between IRs and the real cab/mic.. But I am not a professionnal, just a curious dude playing in his basement ;-)

@DavidMaximMicic
@DavidMaximMicic 9 ай бұрын
It's a comparison I’d be willing to do in the future, but from my experience, if you're not blasting the hell out of the speakers, you might not hear much of a difference. I keep my volume at “loud talking” level if that means anything 👀

When this video started until 15:27 of the video I almost decided to quit playing guitar, no matter that I learned on my own way your chops with your own chord tuning so is my mind(brain) is playing games with me or you really recorded the Destiny Potato - indifferent intro in the way explained in this video from 15:27 (0,6ms delay at 20cm) to 15:50 and who was moving the distant mic manually to reach the capsule 1 or was the diatant mic was put on an like a video camera rail tripod and was moved slightly manual by someone in order to achieve this phase effect, because you can achieve it even with Wha pedal but it will be very very hard as the Wha pedal movement is very sharp ?
