I saw Roben Ford explain how he sets his amps up (mostly for eq) and I tried it that way and it works out really well. You can use a guitar to do it or a noisy pedal, like a fuzz just being on. You turn the pots all the way off, you then either turn on the pedal or hit a string and twist the knob until you hear the pot start to do something. Then you move on to the next one. Then you can tweak it ever so slightly from those positions to suit your tastes. Since all amps and pots are different, by doing it that way it gets you to your normally used sound on any amp really quickly. That is is you like a kinda more balanced sound. If you like lots of base well you would just crank the bass.

Sounds amazing. Also, I really like that you only use two pedals for this. Today I fixed my cheap electric guitar and I want to learn how to play it, but I want to keep it simple. This video helped a lot, thank you

About the Tele/amp relationship . . . I recently got rid of a Blackstar tube amp because the tone was just too dark for my taste. I bought a Roland Blues Cube Hot as a replacement amp, and it's all about Fender-like chime. I love the Blues Cube with most guitars, but I can't get it to pair with my Tele, even experimenting with different pre-amp pedals to warm up the tone. I happen to own a Fender Frontman SS amp (which I upgraded with an Eminence Legend speaker) that generally lacks high-end and the desirable amount of clarity, yet it translates Tele cleans into perfectly balanced tone. It's a match made in heaven! Ain't that a kick in the pants (an expression your parents or grandparents might have used).

Good demo, Marty. I like the lowest common denominator, grab bag kind of approach! When you rhetorically ask "why not" about turning up the Tube Screamer all the way, I think there's actually a good reason not to: The TS sucks low-end out of the signal, and if you compare the half-way setting to the full-on setting, you lost too much bottom-end.

Finally think I'm figuring out how to tune my amp after 4 years or so of having it.. It's just a little 15w Peavy Vypr that I got off of Craigslist for $50. It has a "Pre gain" and "Post gain" knob. I think I just figured out that the "Pre gain" knob affects the regular gain effect, and the "Post gain" knob affects the reverb. After all, it says "Reverb" below the "Post gain" knob. I just never really noticed it before. Now I just need to figure out the different "Amp" settings, and which setting is better.. This is why I stuck with my acoustic. Edit: I can't believe how amazing it sounds now that I figured out how to adjust the reverb.. Before, I had only been playing on the clean channel with no reverb at all.

Great rig. HRD owner for 20+ years. Use with all... Tele, Strat, LP, semi-hollow. Stock gain's mediocre at best. Similar set up for me too, but swapped the Screamer for an OCD and BD-2. OCD has a wider range and great articulation. Oh, fix that HRD reverb or spring for the $350 or so for a used HRD with a working one. ;)

So that deluxe amp ....is it a hot rod deluxe ? I don’t believe it’s a blues deluxe seeing it’s not tweed ,and I doubt you’d say “very affordable “ in reference to a twin deluxe reverb at $1500 range ...I searched reverb and that’s the only deluxe they show for 1990’s fenders . I love the hot rod , and the blues deluxe ...in fact I can’t choose which is why I stick with my digital amp and blues jr or the dsl 40 marshal.....but I’m a sucker for fender grit so am real curious which amp this is exactly ,that works great with pedals similar to mine ..?

Hello there from India, Big fan of urs Mr. Marty, can u elaborate on containing the single coil hum from a Tele... TIA
@friedkin71
@friedkin71 5 жыл бұрын
Depending on which pickups you have, this can be incredibly difficult just using a guitar and an amp. Single coils are incredibly noisy with not a whole lot of compression. You can get a ground lift DI which can definitely help reduce hum. I don’t know how well that works for single coils, but it’s worth a shot for sure.
@MJPGuitar

Divyank Vankawala You would need a noise suppressor pedal. Also make sure your pick guard is properly shielded/grounded. Try to keep you guitar pickups away from computer monitors/tv’s/fluorescent lights/cell phones.
