Great adaptation.Thank you for uploading. Quite the history. The lyrics and melody are a variant of the song "The Braes of Balquhither" by Scottish poet Robert Tannahill (1774-1810) and Scottish composer Robert Archibald Smith (1780-1829), but were adapted by Belfast musician Francis McPeake (1885-1971) into "Wild Mountain Thyme" and first recorded by his family in the 1950s.[1] The original was written with the line 'if you do not go with me, I will never find another'. Very adaptable depending on. one's outlook.

Thanks!!! It's a great song. My ancestors are from Ireland. They emigrated to America in the late 1800s. I was born in America but now live in Germany. I can really relate to this song and the longing of being where one was born and raised.

Robert Burns wrote "Bonnie Lassie Will Ye Go" which is likely an early version of Wild Mountain Thyme.

Sorry, but it was a contemporary of Burns, Robert Tannahill from Paisley, (the Weaver Poet), who wrote these lyrics in the "Braes o' Ballquidder". Please look it up!
