I use this video like every day and my skill is increasing exponentially. I always practiced just going over scales over and over and it seemed to not really get any where but once I started using these for improvising my coordination, fluency, and writing capabilities have shot up so much within a matter of a few months. to anyone who feels stuck at their level, keeping doing this type of stuff, I'm telling you it's worth it. thanks for the sweet video!

The first track was my stepping stone... been playing chords for 30 years off/on... bought an electric 2 months ago... my passion flared! Started taking lessons.... I learned the do re mi scale on one string....it goes so beautifully with the first track..... use the B string and start on the c fret. play up and down that neck to the first track...you will feel like a guitar god. Playing to this song, just opened up all kinds of things... its starting to click...im finding root notes alot quicker. Thank you for uploading this. It makes me feel like im good! 🎶 🎸🎶

I don't know why, but as someone who has tried many videos for practicing using scales musically, this is the best one I have found. I can play with these better than any other video I have found.

I'm an experienced player, but I played along for a chance to work with some different music styles. I mean it as a compliment when I saw that third one reminded me a lot of Johnny Marr. It brought out my inner Smith. I just discovered your channel, and am kind of mesmerized at the way you are so patient and earnest when explaining the most basic things. Keeping the snark out of one's voice on an extreme beginner lesson? That's a gift. I'll poke around, maybe learn something I missed here

Hi, I don't understand theory well, so I am hoping someone may answer my question. Why is it when I search on Google for "C major scale" I get a slew of results on how to play the scale? I watched the accompanying video to this one but just wondering which C major scale is the "correct" one, and why there are so many variations. Thanks.
@guitar-academy6 жыл бұрын
As long as the scale starts on 'C' and finishes on 'C' and has no sharps or flats it is a 'C' major scale. There are a number of ways of doing this and therefore a number of variations on the scale. However, BEWARE . . There are a lot of people on the internet who are not qualified guitar tutors and don't know what they are talking about and this means there's lots of rubbish out there.

So..when in key of C and you go to chord of F and G7, you play the lead line with those chords scales?
@guitar-academy6 жыл бұрын
No, you don't have to change scales for each chord, just as long as the scales are in the key of 'C' major it will sound OK. In this example you are only using one scale, but using the 'C' major scale sounds fine.
@paulpotter98676 жыл бұрын
Wow! I didnt know you can play lead F and G chord leads in C major scale...so, can you play D and E chord leads in A major scale? A and B7 chord leads in E major scale? ECT....
@guitar-academy6 жыл бұрын
Yes, the important thing is the key signature and making sure all the chords you use fit in the key you use. So a simplified way of looking at it is that you can use any chord and scale that have the same sharps or flats as the key signature. Obviously this is a general rule that has exceptions, but it covers most instances . . :-)

Before improvising, just try playing the scale up and down and up and down with the backings until you are confident with the scale, then just take it out of order.
