It's funny how he said as much himself when he played through Eddie's rig. "WTF? I thought I'd sound just like him" (paraphrasing, of course. But you get the idea).

@@eldavieo That makes perfect sense. He is definitely a guitarist's guitarist. I couldn't get enough of their 2nd and 3rd albums when I was younger. My friends that were not guitarists could not understand why I loved his stuff so much. I remember seeing this on TV back in the day when it aired: kzbin.info/www/bejne/omjUo5iip5eigcU I always wondered if that group that went to shake hands with Nuno at the 9:00 mark were guitarists.

I got to see Extreme in the mid 90's at the Newport in Columbus, Ohio Having met the band at a record store and getting both my cd's autographed needless to say I was a big fan. It was an all age show and sadly the entire venue except for me was there to here More than words and that's it. I'm going crazy singing along throwing rock fists and the rest of venue is standing in zombie mode. This kid behind me starts to push me because I'm rocking out. It escalated. Long story short. This giant roadie comes through the crown towards me and my heart breaks because I know I'm about to be tossed. He leans down and says, no one is going to fuck with you the rest of the night and literally was my body guard the remainder of the show.. Enjoy the show. The absolutely greatest night of my life. I will never forget that night. Thanks Nuno! This is my favorite Extreme song and it's from that tour. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpbWomeCra11adk

Former drummer here, now struggling to get my head around guitar. Nuno has always been my guy, and yeah, the rhythm is insane, especially when he's muting hard. But his chops are outta control as well (like the lead on get the funk out, that still puts my jaw on the floor), and the sheer amount of detail, care and information this man loads into a rhythm part is incredible, so rewarding to listen to. Amazing composer and showman to boot, he's a force of nature. Thanks for introducing him to your people Michael, I hope it lights a few fires.

Such a unique style - no-one sounds like Nuno. I think a lot of his rhythmic style comes from his Portuguese heritage, there's always that funky phrasing there.
@OneFingerSnap
@OneFingerSnap Жыл бұрын
I’m Portuguese and I don’t hear any Portuguese heritage whatsoever in this piece. There’s some danceable popular music here but nothing that even remotely resembles this. The most famous Portuguese style, Fado, is very “floaty” rhythmically, mostly the players follow the singer. Midnight Express sounds more like American derived music by far. Some funk in there, a bit fusiony but above all an inevitable time feel. Love Nuno since 1990!

Like a lot of guitar players my age (mid-40s), I discovered Nuno when they released More Than Words. Despite the amazing creativity of that song alone, I always felt that Nuno was written off as a pop-ballad guitar player. I listened to everything he wrote up to Schizophonic and all my guitar playing friends would make fun of me for idolizing him. All of this to say, it's so nice to see Nuno finally getting the credit he deserves these days - and yet, I still feel he's still the most underrated guitar player and musician in rock history. :)

Nuno is a beast, frighteningly talented! Great reaction Michael. I would also love it if you could react to a major guitar influence and an old friend of mine John Martyn, who sadly is no longer with us. He was a pioneer in electronic acoustic playing and influenced many of today’s greats! Amps/pick-ups were his game the guitar the tool to harness the electrical power flowing thru the equipment. He was awesome live, saw him many times in the 70/80’s live (still hung over from sessions, he was animal, in a good way!) and was at his cheeky, funny monstrous best live with varying substances in his blood, that was John in a nutshell, a tortured genius. I also have the debut, III Sides To Every Story and Waiting For The Punchline, but I must say that Pornograffitti is just crushingly perfect. I know that some people state that his rhythm playing is what sets him apart, including the ever-so-present fills he does all over, but I think that his sense of melody and rhythm when it comes to soloing is also immaculate. I just love what he's brought to us!
